Oh good catch! Where did you find that?
So neither of Bert’s mates gets a spot? Hmm.
Adrenalina Italiana!
still
waiting for confirmation from another source
i'd consider it a confirmation from the team site

not a bad squad...
strong men for the flats: vaitkus, rast, muravyev
time trialers: all good ones, not too sure about rast and muravyev
got climbers in spades: armstrong, contador, kloden, leipheimer, paulinho, popovych, zubeldia

the source is the astana website... where lucybears got the graphic above...
why is this so difficult to understand
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
because
lucybears did not get the graphic from the team website, hence my post of wanting confirmation….

Armstrong and Contador
Will be protected riders.
"Where there’s a will, there’s a way.": Alberto Contador, shortly after waking up from brain surgery.
Shinebox!
(If I get the meaning right of shinebox)
Crashdan: "Veni Vidi Vici beats Wing Kong Exchange... … and I’ll change my signature to a backwards smile for a month."
Frining "It's what he thinks.. But he always do.. I eat my shoe if he ride top 15 in le Tour" about Devolder
Presumptuous Much?
Are they really this egotistical? Can any of you seriously imagine, say, some Belgian team coming over to the States for a big event and bragging about how they are the new American revolution? I don’t think I’d blame anyone for being offended by such a thing.
mmmm...possibly.
Still think its kinda obnoxious though.
Who's the Robespierre?
Any bets?

remember, you're talking about the country that has made "taking offense" into an art form

Guess they were forced to go with the token Kazak...
though they could have done much worse but I still think Noval would have been better.
+1
I’m also surprised about Rast but I guess Vaitkus hasn’t come back enough from injuries and Bazayev is still in the doghouse. Rast fits the mold though: big and fast. He won the Luxembourg prologue but is not good at all in the longer ITT’s so for the TTT I imagine the team using him up and dropping him.
Muravyev I don;t get (beyog the Hazakh connection). He’s a bit older (1979) so maybe they didn;t want to bring along a kid like they did in the Giro bu otherwise I would place Zeits, or Dyachenko ahead of him. Muravyev is bad in time trials.
muravyev has been the national tt champion
as well as road

and pointing out "almost last in his previous tour" in the comments?
Even if you’re doing it to say, “he’s better than the numbers imply,” it’s still, well, rude. Mean and rude. Perhaps meant that way (stick it the the ’zakhs) perhaps just tone-deaf, but wow…or am I being oversensitive here?
oversensitive

nah, rude
I thought it was rude, too. Heck, there are plenty of good things you can say about a guy without pointing out that unfortunate statistic. And if the statistic is truly non-indicative of his performance, then it’s even more inappropriate to republish it. They could have just called him “dependable” and left it at that.
Then again, the whole thing was probably “edited” only by Johan and HWMNBN…

I was shocked
too with Horner being left off. For a few reasons. Maybe they don’t think he has recovered enough?
by cyclingdiva on Jun 25, 2009 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions
Maybe.
I certainly hope that’s the excuse. But how real is it?
Interesting that Gerrans was training with them also and now two major domestiques are stilling at home.
stilling at home?
is that a mashup of sitting at home and still at home?
by ZoeRochelle on Jun 25, 2009 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions
I think it is a huge
mistake not taking Horner and it makes my stomach hurt. I didn’t but the two together about them training together. hmmm

perhaps
Ursula knows more about their off-the-books sources of revenue generation than he’s admitting to.
Coming to a dry county near you this summer: Cannonball run46, the professional cyclist edition. “That ain’t endurox in them bidons . . .”
Read the reason was..
He chrashed 3 times this season and he broke someting 3 with all the falls.. They didn’t want to take the risk of that in the Tour

No Noval for Contador
neither Horner for Armstrong, is fair.:P

So lemme get this straight
the t-shirt printer knew before Horner did? These guys are just plain weird.
Abruzziamo!
by Chris Fontecchio on Jun 25, 2009 10:57 AM EDT reply actions
I doubt that's the case, that the printer knew before Horner, c'mon. They respect Horner too much.
Sure wanted Horner, but it’s sensible that they have more power to control things should Contador inconceivably get the yellow by chance. Yea? They looked to have plenty of climbers before the last three were picked, so as much as I wanted Horner, it didn’t look likely.
Strange phrasing in saying that alberto is the team leader.
Instead of putting it that way, JB says Bert’s worked hard, “earning the right to represent our team as out leader this July.” Presumably Bert IS the leader, and this isn’t a symbolic statement.
I'm sure Bert is not happy
that Noval isn’t there. I had the impression he was very close with Bert and sort of a buffer against some of the stress/hassles of the race.
Gives me hope for the Vuelta
That Contador will do that. Astana could be quite a good team there:
Contador
Zubeldia
Noval
Navarro
Horner
Brajkovic
Bazayev
Paulinho
Hernandez
kloden

Only one token Kazakh?
Then methinks the Kazakh government did not cough up as much money as it claimed.

neither's la... didn't get his wish it appears (horner on the squad)
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
I can understand that
Does his contract end this year? Negociations frequently take place in July… if he’s angry at Astana, another team may take advantage of that…
And once again, JB
flips off ASO. How? Including Kloden on the tour squad. Perhaps he’s gunshy because of Gusev’s successful appeal, but Kloden is suspicious 3 ways to Freiburg—and his inclusion on the team opens the door to all sorts of wonderful news stories in the German Press.
Yeah that's nice, lets not classify Jens as everybody here
we all know you hate his guts, not everyone does. I don’t like him as much as other Germans but am glad he’s starting.
Indifferent concerning Kloden, if ASO had made any kind of a rumble
don’t think he would have been invited. Jens remark about “No Horner” and competing teams being thankful, I didn’t look at it that way, but that’s so true.
EJBPMO might need an avatar for that one, hmmm.
I don't really hate his guts as much as my comments indicate.
In many ways I think he is an admirable racer. Always doing his job for his team, seldom whining and at times underappreciated for his results.
I’m merely using him as a symbol of the shitty way the sport and some athletes are dealing with the problem of doping.
- When everyone around him has been exposed as sytematic dopers, teammates say he’s doped (some outright in testimony and some with not so subtle hints). A very thourough commission on the Freiburg-clinic has presented proof (that they deem solid enough not to get them into legal problems) he has doped. Still he is allowed to ride along as if nothing happened. Does anyone think this sends the signal that we want the dopingproblem to go away?
- His ludicrous ramblings about his own purity and how he’s such a wonderfully gifted athlete that he doesn’t need to dope (in the face of all we know) tick me off a little bit, I will agree.
So when I call him a sorry sack of shit it is a slightly more drastic way of saying “this is a man who has no place racing before he has served some kind of sentence for his past cheating and Astana/ASO should know better than to bring/allow him in the race”
yep. shades of virenque, n'est=ce pas?
If Boonen has to go through his farce trial, Klodi should also be excluded.
The flags went up big time when he went out of his way to decline joining Stapleton’s T-Mobile squad.
And the positives of riders like Rebellin, Schuhmacher (who I liked . . .) and Kohl (note: ALL on an allegedly clean team at the time of the positives) suggests that the claim that someone like Kloden has been scared into riding clean is not really applicable.
His inclusion made me wince
but eh, if he’s riding clean, or if he gets caught red handed (or scarlet blooded?) either way, it’s good for the sport. I can live with it, as ASO apparently can.
Lotto
Wouldn’t have left him off, if he’d stayed there. Wonder if Popo is going to show some heart/form this year?
true
Horner’s missed two tours in a row now hasn’t he? maybe if he stayed with Lotto he could have had his team leader win one of them as well. Wonder if he’s even thought about that?
Bit of a tough comparison to make though
because Astana has so many more top domestique’s than Lotto does.
