Race report - Swedish championships

Cimg0681_medium

One of the first riders I saw today, a poor guy in a hideous outfit.

Star-divide

Cimg0684_medium

Lucky me, there were 120 riders with better looking kits.

Cimg0690_medium

The interesting part of the course, a little hill that they climbed 8 times. Almost 3k long, about 7-8% I think.

Cimg0695_medium

Today's winner Marcus Ljungqvist going up the hill for the first time. Nicklas Axelsson in front of him.

The Broom Wagon chased hard today.

Cimg0701_medium

Fredrik Kessiakoff, Jonas Ljungblad and Thomas Lövkvist decided to have a Giro reunion. Cute!

Cimg0706_medium

Marcus Ljungqvist and Fredrik Ericsson were the strongest riders today. After Kinnekulle they finished with 3 laps in Götene.

No pics from the sprint, but a video:

Good question

He had team mate (he is on Team Cykelcity when he is racing in Sweden) in the break, I guess he didn’t want to chase and it was too late when Lindgren got dropped. But the question is why he and some of the other big names missed the break.

Saving legs?

MAybe they didn’t like the National Flag? And Ljunqvist is also switchin shirts like Cance?

Nice photo’s btw. The sport has some potential if you look to the visitord they get in France. What do they watch in the summer?! Or is that skieing, Biatlon, shooting, and more Bjrndalen shows also in the summer?

Not saving legs

He hasn’t raced since the Giro, and they scrapped him for the tour.

Great: they are flying in that video!

Nice ocean views too!

wow big budget, the Swedes had a podium to stand on. The Swiss just had pieces of paper with numbers 1, 2, & 3

I haven't had that much hair since kindergarten

Actually if you put a normal amount of bodyfat on Maggie in that picture and shortened him by 10 cm that really (no kidding) could be me.

(except the only time you would find white sunglasses on me is if someone put them on me post-mortem)

Man, between this and Will's stuff on Swiss RR

we may be having the best race photo coverage of the season. Great job!

Found another video

On YouTube, with a better view of the sprint.

They're getting along just fine

None of the three favourites in the women RR managed to win, apparently because Emma Johansson and Susanne Ljungskog couldn’t work together. Ljungskog wanted it to be a sprint finish and therefor didn’t help Johansson chase after Stenerhag and Aune (it sounds a bit strange to me, but still), while Aune is Emilia Fahlin’s team mate. The quote of the day is:

Susanne is tragic, old and worn out.

This is why Emma is going to be a star in cycling

She has it in her to be a real asshole.

Seriously, I like that she is pissed about not winning but the fact is that when you reach the levels she’s at, you need to start accepting that people aren’t always going to be cooperating with you for fear of getting beaten. Ljungskog made a smart choice against a stronger opponent, Emma should get over it. The fact that she can’t stand Ljungskog probably doesn’t help.
