Around SBN: Jim Irsay: We Can Make It Work With Peyton Manning

The team currently called Columbia-Highroad, and known in 2008 and 2009 as the team with the most victories in professional cycling, will compete as "Team Columbia-HTC" and will present the new team uniform in Monaco on July 3, the day before the start of the 96th Tour de France.

Chris here... The team will add green accents to the kit as a result of the new sponsor's incorporation. Just a tad auspicious as they line Cavendish up for his first full Tour, no?

The day after the team presentation

Maybe they are having casual thursdays.

What

only one new title sponsor? What does a team have to do…win every race?

New kit

Translated from italian: “the team will address the Grand Boucle with a special jersey that will be changed several times during the season”. Cool

by aavf on Jun 29, 2009 4:55 PM EDT reply actions

"several times"

are they trying to imitate Rock Racing? Should I watch out for Cavendish raising his arms in victory only to reveal an anarchy slogan on his chest?

Heh

I think they just mean that the clothes will get a good washing now and then. You know, after rainy stages they get pretty messy.

Minor changes

Maybe it’s just minor details changed or added like they did in the Giro, adding a bit of pink and small italian flags.

by aavf on Jun 29, 2009 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions

if it sits poorly, then

someone needs to take up the cause of changing the rules. The effect of kit on competition = nil. The effect of kit on sponsor brand and marketing = possibly great. Go for it.

by Sui Juris on Jun 29, 2009 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

There's going to be green on the kit?!

In addition to yellow, white and black? I’m getting nasty images of this. It can’t end well.

Think of a bumblebee alighting upon a daisy

See? Not so bad.

Doesn't look like a bumblebee to me

OTOH, my knowledge when it comes to insects is almost zero.

Okay, a bee. I wrote "bumblebee" before I went looking for the picture.

My deepest apologies. No, really.

On behalf of all the bumblebees (and bees) in the world

Apology accepted.

That's either a wasp

or a hornet. Not too sure if that’s a daisy either. I thought they were smaller.

by Monty. on Jun 30, 2009 9:41 AM EDT up reply actions

Now you're just being silly.

I can’t vouch for the insect, although it looks rather like a honey bee to me, but that is most definitely a daisy (specifically, an ox-eye daisy).

Dunno, Majope

You’ve shown fallibility. Now everything is in question.

Wait...

Now that I look at the picture again, I’m not sure what any of you were talking about.

I've opened this post twice

and it has shown two different pics. Are you sure you are not the frinkster, majope? This has frinking written all over it.

Different picture, you say?

No screen shot, no proof.

(Er…you don’t have a screen shot, right? I mean, even if you did, everybody knows how easy it is to fake them.)

Ok this is agood a time as any to announce that I am an ass

I tried the screenshot thing. Printscreen, paste into paint, cut it down to size,……….. then what the heck do I do? I tried copy/paste unsuccessfully.

by Jens on Jun 30, 2009 12:17 PM EDT up reply actions

What are you trying to do?

It looks like you’re pretty much all the way there apart from pressing the big Save button.

by Monty. on Jun 30, 2009 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I can mark an area in Paint

and Copy but when I return to IE to paste it’s as if there wasn’t anything to paste in. Copy/paste works from Word to IE so why not from Paint to IE?

by Jens on Jun 30, 2009 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Pasting into IE wouldn't help

cos you cant upload photos here that way. What you have to do is save it, upload it to somewhere like tinypic.com then copy the address they give you and paste it into the little box that appears when you click on the picture button.

For me daisies are always the little things

that grow on grass and that you children pick to make daisy chains, and grannies pick to make smelly camomile tea.

Oh, wait, HTC. My bad. ; )

lol

I know I’m going to type it that way at least once during the Tour ;-)

by Jen See on Jun 30, 2009 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Perhaps

we should save ourselves all a lot of trouble and just give them the ‘nickname’ THC.

Hold on…Columbia…THC….is there an award for trying hard to distance oneself from doping while associating your self with dope award? If so, Stapleton is a guaranteed winner.

Hey...

Perhaps the Green accents are really to match the Green Jersey that Cavendish will be wearing.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
