A not so gentle reminder about the tone of our discussions

We are 99.9% the best site around, sporting or otherwise and our discussions are always a lot of fun including the vigorous debates we have regarding whether Nihilism is a valid ethos.

That last .1%, though, has developed quite a set of vocal cords the last few days.  I would remind everyone to review Chris' Annual Reminder of the rules for PodiumCafe participation and present the following chart as a guideline.  Let's remember to stay at the top of the pyramid when discussing Drew even our most loathed competitors.  Some have been toiling at the base a bit too much.

Guilty however,

I refute this triangle, given that at its center is a gross contradiction, and on top of that, an implicit counter-argument. Further, the whole entire premise is resting on an ‘ass hat’. As for the resulting tone……..Ad hominem tu quoque.

Bah....Cavendish?!

Thanks Dan

At least

our conversations don’t involve people actually putting hands around the other’s throat. Check the most recent LA interview here (it’s the one he gave right after the stage today) at ~ :30. One of his bodyguards (?) decides to make his point by putting his hands around a journos neck.

(I don’t blame LA for that, of course. That scrum is nuts – the same interview on Eurosport shows him just about getting crushed.)

You don't blame him

But confess, you do think he’s a douche bag.

An argument isn’t just contradiction.
It can be.
No it can’t. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
No it isn’t.
Yes it is! It’s not just contradiction.
Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
Yes, but that’s not just saying ‘No it isn’t.‘
Yes it is!
No it isn’t!

I don't think it's the same

That said, one can always, under the “actions” button, “flag” a post. This will help admin note issues that might otherwise go unnoted.

(Also encourage the use of the “rec” option under “actions”, too. Dan’s post yesterday deserved a good bit of green highlighting (the result of five recs, I think . . .)).

a lot of baiting going on recently, in my opinion

One of the keys to the game behind the civil tone at podium cafe is that everyone usually manages to not take the bait when it’s offered. I’ve failed miserably a couple of times myself but i’m a lot happier with the outcome when i manage to resist. Just a reminder to all the other fish out there – worms – hooks – be careful. Between all the new members who haven’t all clued in to the vibe here yet, and the always volatile subject of LA, we’re in dangerous waters for the next few weeks.

Actually, i have to say, considering some of the flame that’s been spewed here recently, it’s remarkable that things haven’t deteriorated further, as they would have on most message boards. More props to Chris and the others for managing to have created this place and the vibe that goes with it. Chapeau

That is hilarious....

Wow, so one of your long standing members and admitted “fan” of cycling launched into an attack against me….. violating every part of the cute pyramid you have going on there.

And why ?? all becuz I am not a Lance Armstrong fan…. never have been, never will be…. but hey, if you girls wanna be go right ahead and have at it.

What I love is that it is OK for your members to go off on tirades and violate your terms of use…. BUT, when someone else comes on here speaking nothing but truth they are attacked and told that they will get banned.

What a bunch of fucking posers.

by tedvdw on Jul 11, 2009 7:33 AM EDT up reply actions

You need to chill

People asked you kindly and repeatedly to abide by the simple rules of the house, which you chose to ignore . You are allowed to any opinions but take the suggestions, look up the the very easy houserules which basically comes down to maintaining a civil tone and not disrespect fellow posters.

People here have very differing opinions, not least on LA so stop acting as if this is an attack on your opinions. It’s all about how you are expressing them. Clean it up or go home.

by Jens on Jul 11, 2009 7:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Ah, The Force is strong in this one.

There are plenty of people here who don’t like Lance. Snark, you can get away with, but any more and you will be attacked by a gang of Care Bears and My Little Ponies and cuddled into submission. I admire your spirit, but you’re never going to win this one.
