yeah if Cavendish wins green he should insist on bringing Renshaw up on the podium with him, what a rider.

You want Renshaw appreciation, check out the Aussie press

My favorite headline so far: “Renshaw does all the hard work as Cavendish takes the spoils.”

Among his many talents, Mark Cavendish can make it rain in Southern California--Chris Jones, ESPN Magazine

All credit to Cav for acknowledging his wingman.

In some ways it’s a headline that fell on deaf ears because cycing is buried on the least of the sports pages in Australia. Advertising in Oz for TDF featured Gerrans, Evans, McEwen and Davis. So in the absence of all but Evans, journos are in the process of manufacturing new ‘heroes’.
The truth is that only Evans makes a blip in wider Australian community. On SBS, the main graphic in lead up and during TDF is of Cancellara. Whilst I’m not necessarily sorry about that Swiss=neutral it speaks to a lack of knowledge and depth about TDF in Oz.
Those of us who do watch cycling know that Cav is amazing. But we’re also pleased that Renshaw is his lead out man.

While I appreciate Renshaw's riding prowess and really like the guy

Cavendish wins even when Renshaw isn’t the final lead out guy.

True but in all of the Grand Tours this year he has had Renshaw lead him to victory...

that is where it counts and if he didn’t have a guy like Renshaw to keep the pace super super high then it would be a different story

It's not just the riding prowess...

it’s the total “soup-to-nuts” orchestration of the sprint victory. If you’re lucky enough to get one of those helicopter shots from about 1k to go, check him out. His head is on a swivel; he’s marshaling his troops and setting up all the players. One shot I remember, EBH wasn’t filling a gap fast enough, Renshaw put his hand in his back and shoved him in…and then jumped on his wheel…Cav in tow. Just like Lombardi did for Cipo.

O/T: Look at the steep learning curve that Tyler Farrar has come through this season. Earlier this year, he would spend a lot of energy fighting for Cav’s wheel. Now, he’s getting that maneuver down. Plus, he’s finishing with Cav & Thor on the sport’s biggest stage…that’s got to be huuuuuge for the confidence.

Farrar

Has improved a lot. Wasn’t it MSR when he was getting pushed all over the place? He was looking nervous, tenative, and generally unsure of himself. He’s much more confident and assertive now, plus he’s gotten enough placings to garner some respect as well.

I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, that's good." Jens!

MSR is where he broke his collarbone, isn't it?

He definitely looked good in Tirreno when he beat Cav there. He’s having a good year—not a ton of wins but he almost always seems to be right up there, with more than 20 top-5 finishes.

I love to come here to race and I love to be here, and for sure, I'm going to get arsey at some riders because I'm an arsehole, but it's irrelevant of nationality, and it's irrelevant of anything else. Like I said, I'm an arsehole--Mark Cavendish, refuting charges that he's a racist

Indeed

I had to go look it up. I was thinking of Romandie – Stage 5. And after watching it again, it wasn’t as I remembered it. But anyway he keeps getting better… I think he and Cav will develop a pretty good rivalry

He was still a bit slow getting up there yesterday

if you look at the heli shot, Julian Dean (I guess) put in a massive pull to bring him up from about 15th place to Cav’s wheel. If he had had a bit more support in the final few ks, like he got at times in the Giro, he could have got closer.

It looked to me like Dean was hanging out in the breeze from about 1.5K to 400m. Farrar was already on the wheels.

I reviewed yesterday’s (Stage 11) finish to check Renshaw’s action for this thread. At the little chicane around 450m, I see Renshaw’s head look right and he noticed a Garmin there and closed the door on him going into the right hander. In the finale, Farrar had to come all the way around Thor. I’d like to see Tyler’s confidence rub off on Julian.

You go Renshaw,

always a compliment when Cav say’s he has the best lead out man in the world.. I’m wondering how he would go if Cav wasn’t there… Have to admit though I’m missing Adam Hansen at the tour…

"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"
