things that are weird...

  1. Every time I post to a thread, my browser decides to go to the top of the page
  2. My "z" key doesn't skip to the next new post, if it does anything it does the same as above
  3. All my stuff is up to date....
  4. Mac, OS-X, Safari...
  5. I know I know.. just switch to firefox... No I don't want to switch.

Same thing for me

Also tried Firefox, was the same. But! Not always. Almost every time yesterday, almost never today.

Note that the navigation keys (z or c) do work, ie. the right message gets focus or gets marked read, it’s just that the page scrolls up. And yep, same thing happens when posting a new message. That makes the site rather unusable. I reported it to SBnation via the contact form.

My theory is that the javascript from some ads interferes with the javascript for navigation.

possible solution w/Firefox (I was having the same problem for a while)

I’ve found that if I scroll down into the meat of the thread, click my mouse somewhere in a message (or in the grey bar to the left), then hit Z it all works fine. I’m blaming some of the ads as well. Once I get it back to working, it’s fine.

that's a different problem.

Happens with old version of Safari, with Firefox, etc.

The other issue is not transient, and there’s no ‘go around’ that I’ve found, yet. I can use an old version of the OS / old version of Safari on the clunker desktop, I can switch to firefox on my laptop or the new computer at work, but the newest MacOS / Safari seems not to be compatible with the “Z” function of this site—not on the new desktop at work, not on my laptop at home.

Consistently?

I use newest MacOSX+Safari and haven’t had any problems for a few days now.

I've had identical problems.

I also have Mac, OS-X, Safari. I don’t want to switch either.

Same for me. Exact same.

I’m using firefox, under protest, just for this site, and hoping the next Safari update will fix it. Or that I will like Chrome for MacOS “if and when.”

I notice that the “z” does (at least sometimes) still unmark a post, it just doesn’t bring me to the post—it kicks me back up to the top of the page, so I can’t read or find the (now unmarked) post.

I just can't use safari

until I find a good “mouse gestures” add-on – makes browsing so much easier IMHO

That Z problem is why I switched to C, X instead.

That way I don’t miss any posts by unmarking them before I get to read them.

I’ve had the problem of being brought up to the top of the page instead of the new post when I hit C or Z, but usually it goes away if I leave the thread and come back, or sometimes (not always) if I refresh instead.

i use a mac with firefox

i’ve seen this a couple of times but i thought it was related to having the page open with two computers in the house. Shut one of the browsers down – or at least the pdc page, on one of the puters and the problem went away. But then another time it seemed to be there with only one computer. Seems like i re-started the browser that time and the problem went away. It’s only been rare and recent that i’ve seen this.

yeah, it's been intermittent before.

But this is a different order of magnitude.

by JFS_PGH on Jul 21, 2009 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I had this problem with Safari on my Mac

Only seems to have started happening since I downloaded a new version last week.

Not happy with it either, for other reasons – the blue ‘progress’ bar that moves across the web address has disappeared.

Wah.

yep both of my browsers do all of that, and they're both up to date.

I also noticed that something from admt or somesuch takes for &^%^%# ever to load. Slows my entire page load to a crawl.

happened to me once

closed it, reopen, and it’s all fine.

Google Chrome at home.

similar on occasion

that i’ve noticed the z key didn’t work (and took me back to the top of the page), couldn’t figure out what was different about those times and other times when it works fine.

Me too!

Just now.. Mac + Firefox: After a couple of seconds the PdC screen goes blank, sort of. Can’t read it at any rate. I then hit refresh and everything’s fine. This is just a PdC problem. Hey… have SN been hiring CTV folks lately? ’)

by ursula on Jul 20, 2009 1:08 AM EDT reply actions

not so.

There’s something in the code that affects a variety of platforms and browsers intermittently, but I’ve been frozen out on this function, consistently, since the last Safari update, a couple of weeks ago. It has not worked for me once, in all that time. And I’m here a lot, and I usually use Safari for everything, so I end up bumping into this several times a day (and then remembering to switch to Firefox).
