Lance Armstrong shall win the Tour de France in 2010.

Reasons?
1. He won't be humble and go for it.
2. He let Contador win.
3. After retirement... he is not at full peak. He will be next year. 4. His teammates will help Lance win.

Let him win?? Pffftt

Just the post is enough to start an arguement. Let alone the comments that will be written.. Won’t be coming back to this thread..

"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"

That's simply rude and unfair

If this were another anti-Lance thread you might dive right in, but just because somebody makes some rediculous/unsubstantiated claims is no reason to be so dismissive. It’s not like other’s don’t make comments or posts that are totally argumentative.

ça commence déjà...

I agree that Armstrong will be better next year…but can you give any compelling evidence for any of your claims?

by plinytheelder on Jul 25, 2009 12:17 PM EDT reply actions

He let Contador win?

now give me an explanation of how he did that and I’ll call you out on all the BS that will be in your claim.

Lance could be 85, miss the time cut on stage 2

and thse people will be claiming he did it on purpose not to embarrass riders 60 years younger, cause he could have won. They will never believe that as time goes on, and as he gets older, he won’t be as good as he once was and he won’t win it because he can’t. Instead of being happy and amazed he can still finish 3rd after 4 years off, at age 37.

but the headline says that Lance chose not to win ;-)

article here … all the “arcane” Euro traditions about that “odd” sport of cycling meant that Lance had no choice but to let Alberto win, or something like that. And unfortunately, enough people reading that stuff will actually believe it.

That was good fun

sometimes real newspapers are so nutty, you don’t even need The Onion.

oh.... my... god.

Let the games begin.. This should be as entertaining as the “peloton splits” argument in the post race thread.
Two big phallacies at this point:
He let Contador win.
He won’t be humble…. HUMBLE? LANCE?

of course his teammates will ride for him, Radio Shack is going to be like VS tv. all LANCE all the time.

Ad I’m outta here. Don’t want to hear anything more about HIM till next july.

fallacies. eom

If Contador had lost time on the ITT and had to make it back up today … maybe.

But Contador does not have any obvious vulnerabilities … he can cover attacks and counter while the attacker is still recovering, he can attack himself multiple times on the same slope, or long enough to drop a rider that hung onto his wheel … and now his time trialing has reached the level where he could dominate the race for years.

Meanwhile its not clear that Armstrong is the automatic number two if a bad turn of fortune knocks Contador out … Andy Schleck is still young, and he’s likely to be turning his attention to improving his time trialing if he wants to improve his own chances.

Bruce I really was trying to use a form of the noun Phallus....

juvenile… I know but hey it’s Saturday, the race isn’t concluded and already it time to talk about next year? Nope. No way uh uh.

I promise you

this is not my sock puppet designed to make me look less bad.

Apologies for my comments in the other thread. I meant no harm.

Enjoy your day.

Not a chance... if AC is in the race

Contador is the best stage racer in the world, by a distance that is frankly embarrassing. And he is still on the upswing. Schlecklet is the only guy who is even close, and unless he learns to time trial (and realises that occassionally he may need to blow his brother up) he will always be in the position that all AC has to do is cover.

Armstrong may get back his time trial legs, but I can’t see him climbing with either of the top two if they decide to go after him.

Plus, of course, anno domini. You get old fast in top level sport – which is why his 3rd this year is hugely impressive, but gives no confidence for future years. And AC / Schlecky are both still on the upswing…

Best guess is that – after a great and impressive ride this year – he simply embarasses himself next year, when depending on who he brings along, he may not even be the strongest rider in his own team.

+1

Next year Lance wont have any excuses as Bert rips his legs off… Bert was on a leash this year. Who knows how bad it would have got if he had finished off Ventoux and Queen Stage.

by Cycho on Jul 25, 2009 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Lance said before the race he was better than in 2003

And he mentioned that his form was WAY better than the Giro, where he didn’t disgrace himself either, so yes, I agree, unless Contador and Andy Schleck miss out next year Lance will settle for 3rd or worse again. Not bad for a 38 year old.

Shouldn't we first wait and see

if his team gets an invite? It’s all kinda conditional on that, I should think ;-)

Ugh....I'm not looking forward to seeing "Team RadioShack" out there on the road...

Great to have another American sponsor in the sport but couldn’t it have been one with a little more street cred than RadioShack, just sayin…

OK, come on now

The poster didn’t attack anyone’s mother. You can dispute the allegations — #2 seems like a joke — but don’t go after the writer personally.

IMHO, Lance will never win again, but it’s not beyond comprehension. Also, surely he’ll be a little better next year; he looked like crapola in the Pyrenees but much better later on. Still, the chances of something happening to derail Contador are much less than something derailing Lance (at 38). And Contador is hands-down stronger.

Sorry...

I was just surprised to see that simpletruth hadnt taken the time to change his avatar to the Radioshack 2010 symbol.

by Cycho on Jul 28, 2009 2:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Nothing's impossible, but...

If you think Lance will win next year, you should see your bookie ASAP, because you’ll get some pretty sweet odds on it.

Not really a serious proposition at this stage… especially if the reasoning is that he let AC win.
