Never underestimate the extent to which this team will be about GB rider development

Although commentators say the elder is horrible but he finished ahead of over 120 riders so is that really so horrible? Perhaps it is for the GC gentlemen but there has been too much dependence on the TTs in recent Tours.

gav--any gossip about the new re-tests from the 2008 Tour?

15 riders’ samples getting tested again, all of them supposedly from the top 20. Said they gave all the riders in question letters informing them of the retests in Monaco just before the prologue. Wonder if that hurt any performances this year…

by Runitout on Jul 26, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Not much more than is there

I’ll read the print edition later.

The time frame for re’testing is September-October. They will re’test 15 riders from the top 20 of last year’s general classification. They did indeed notify the riders in Monaco. The tests weren’t done last year because fo financial constraints.

We’re also still waiting for the Giro re-tests, of course. I’m guessing the info from that is delayed by the course of the criminal investigation in Padova related to Rebellin and the drug ring there. That is the reason for the re-testing anyway.a

Vediamo.

Good point.

The timing seems rather spiteful to me, notifying the riders in Monaco. Chances are most of them will test clean, but it takes a lot of concentration to endure a 3-week GT. You’d think having that hang over them would upset them even if they know they’re clean.
