Volta a Portugal - Stage 6
Today is another interesting day, probably no major differences at the end of the day, but the finish is in a 3km climb. Last year the winner was Nuno Ribeiro, the current yellow jersey.
The live stream should begin at 4pm, as usual.
Yesterday was another stage for a bunch sprint, but Andalucia managed to won the stage. Manuel Lopez who was in a break too, did the last effort to give to Manuel Piedra (his teammate) his first professional win.

Liberty Seguros is
doing some videos “inside the team” during Volta a Portugal. Good to see these ideas, to encourage fans.
Despite the quality isn’t the better, ideas like that are always very welcome.
an exemple:

Is pre-race show full of strange musicians or am I watching the wrong channel?
by Jens on Aug 12, 2009 10:31 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah
is what we call “Pimba” music, is pop mixed with our tradicional styles…it’s sucks!!
The show passed in the cities that welcome the race, it’s a bit that we call “fill sausages” (don’t know if you are familiar with this expression.)

the name Pimba
comes from this music, a big hit 10 years ago. After this music, the songs and artists that played like that are called “Pimba” singers/music. Old people and imigrants too, love them.

Those last 10km were hard, even before the proper climb
not impressive to see Cunego drop so early on the climb, even if the pace was brutal.

Was Cunego
even trying? does he care enough about the race or have enough form to bother?
by bought with blood on Aug 12, 2009 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He did go to the frontgroup on the run-up to the climb
Possibly he didn’t want to go too deep. He didn’t look like he was in trouble before he dropped, but still.

Looked to me
like he started soft pedalling before things really blew up. At least I hope so, I would love to see him win the worlds. The course should suit him, but if he can’t run with the leaders at the Volta he won’t see the decisive split in the Worlds.

Worlds is a long way off, though
he should be nowhere near a peak.
by Jens on Aug 12, 2009 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Seems
Like the most logical explanation, my guess is that lampre were working for tiralongo

So is Jimenez's celebration an echo of sastre and the dummy/pacifier?

Bebeto World Cup 1994 was the original I think?

Is that amazing encyclopaedic knowledge or a joke
neophyte here :)
by Seahorse on Aug 12, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Brazilian footballer Bebeto did it in a WC quarter/semifinal in 1994
it was the first time I saw it, anyway.

OK, now I don't feel so bad
Australia in the nineties treated football/soccer like an embarrassment. Anything less than the World Cup final didn’t really rate a mention. Interesting though. Thanks.
