Vuelta VDS smack talk: premature edition
Yes I know, it's a little early for this, but I'm leaving for some altitude training in Sequoia next week until stage 3 and I didn't want to mis out on the fun, or for you all to realize why your collective teams don't stand a chance...You see, I've been peaking for the Vuelta all along. The details of your demise on the flip
So who do I have? Funny you should ask...I was about to tell you
SamSan (this is his year...it's going to be gold, orange and gold all over the podium)
JAGM
Barredo (we saw only a tiny hint of his form at San Seb)
Hesjeda/CVV
Anton (yes, the Euskies will have 2 in the top 10...this is their redemption tour)
Mixing it up in the sprints will be:
Rollin
Ciolek and
Gilbert
And incase there happpens to be an ITT (oh look, there is)
Tuft (he will be honing his form to improve on his modest performance in last years WCITT)
That's right...not a dud in the bunch. So who you got that will trump that? And don't tell me Valverde...Danielson almost beat him last week.

Oh, for those who aren't aware
the preliminary start list has been released
"It looks like talking, but it’s just words that comes out"
~ Andy Schleck
If I only could remember my team.
Out of my head:
Gesink, Basso and Anton for the GC.
Cobo for the dope
Iglinsky for the coolness factor
Cunego, Gerdemann and Gaspa for the grey hairs from frustration
Boom for the prologue
Martens for 5 stage wins
and Ciolek, Breschel for the sprints
One word: MEH
Igor Anton: Mr Cutest Smile in Euskadi hasn’t garnered me a single point this year but he WILL do better here. he won the Subida Urkiola a couple of weeks ago so things are on the up. And I’ve threatened him with a fate worse than majope’s ‘second team’ if he fails.
Fedrigo: a stage please
Intxausti: I shouldn’t keep picking cute Basques. No points yet but supposedly he’s promising. It’s time to show it!
Bennati: No comment….at least he’ll look beautiful
Kreuziger: I expected more of him at the Tour. Time to step up!
Barredo: riding the San Sebastian high
Boom: a point or two please
Gilbert: attack!
Breschel: stage please
"If I were World Road Race Champion, I would wear black shorts. That probably has more to do with me being on the wiser side of 30 and understanding better that the decisions I make now never really go away. White shorts would not be something I'd be proud of...." - David Millar, in Rouleur.
ok
if I remember correctly, I have,
Puppy, prep for worlds probably.
Igor Anton, aaaggghhh.
J Rod, I dunno…he should finish high on GC?
Zeke, better get onto the podium!
Kreuziger, time to challenge Ivan Basso for leadership?
Greipel , stages!
Boom/Iglinsky/Hernandez, whatever…
Boom and Iglinsky have the collnmessfactor.
No whatever may be said in one sentence. They will, hopefully, curse you with the Rouge Lanterne, witch! (:

Well, almost. Barredo, Chavanel, Ballan and Weening.
Staring at the swim team gets you killed by a gang of dancing ninja men who know how to twirl.
Da Bomb
I think 40 VDS teams have Large Bomb, so we should probably devote some time to discussing his chances. How about no points at all?
So far he’s won the Tour of Belgium, done OK in the Suisse prologue and finished that race, came in seventh in Saschen, and finished San Sebastian.
In the Tour of Belgium he crushed such competition as Thomas “Oops” Dekker, Dominque Cornu, Greg Van Avermaet, and Neils Albert (ha!). The Saschen Tour was won by Sinking Joke. In the TdS prologue he was 12" shy of third-place finisher Andreas Kloden over 7.8km, and a full 34" shy of Spartacus.
Based on these results, Boom has nice results for a 23-year-old making the transition from cross superstar to road warrior. I think he’ll be a standout time triallist in a couple of years. But I think Boom will exceed expectations if he finishes the Vuelta, does OK in his time trialling, and gets into a couple of breakaways.
(And in VDS smack, I have both Andy and Bobo Gesink, so I’m loaded for bear.)
The Tour of Belgium was some serious competition.
With some luck he managed to win there and with serious help from Clement but he was impressive there. haven’t seen him in Suisse. I and more people thought he would do better there but ok. It was his first more days PT course and he was in the attack one day. Not bad. The Rabo site said he felt ok and if they keep away he would have had a change. But that isn’t objective.
That are surely some results. That with the fact he has highlited the prologue for some time, see preparation movie in Dutch from already a month or so ago, and he is a very good in focussing and it;s in Holland gives me some confident he will do ok. If Cancelarra is racing he won’t win but top 5 surely.
He's starting to focus on cross season so,
I wouldn’t expect much out of him.
On the other hand, he’s going to have a massive fall and winter :-)
I do mind, the Dude minds. This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man.
Look closely: these guys of mine will all have accidents, doping busts, or will just plain suck.
Gesink
Fuglsang
Rodriguez
Sanchez
Ciolek
Kloden
Horner
Hammond
Pasamontes
Large Bomb
What're the odds Klodi
breaks his ass for a third time?

It's a thing of beauty
It needs to be preserved!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Then he hasn't been doing a very good job of it ;-)
I do mind, the Dude minds. This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man.
Don't worry
If he’s on my VDS team and he’s not named Contador or Haussler then he’s having-or will have-a sucky year.
I have
Schlecklet, Jesus H., Ciolek, Gerdemann, Peterson, Tuft, Boom, and Gilbert, with Lovkvist, Meier, Vansummeren, and Weylandt on reserves.
This being Spain, they are all going to crash out in the first 3 stages, or perhaps dawdle in the gruppetto while getting some miles in before the Worlds.
Throughout the stage all I kept on thinking was: ‘don’t finish second, you can’t finish second again’.--Heinrich Haussler
But it's not a Small Spanish Stage Race.
Perhaps you’ll fare better in Big Spanish Stage Races.
