ENECO Tour Stage 3... LIVE!
Another nondescript stage, from the distant fan's perspective, and another probable sprint if Garmin can hold it together. Actually, they might get a little help from Quick Step, since the stage rolls through Tom Boonen's hometown of Mol. Will hometown pride overcome that nagging sensation that Boonen can't hang with Tyler Farrar in a sprint? Probably. Real action is over the weekend, but this should be fun.

O/T The Tour of Ireland starts today too.
I’d be happy to do a Helsy style ticker for it but I really can’t as I’m at work and couldn’t give it anything like my full attention, but I can try and update occasionally here unless anyone wants to do a separate thread? There should be tickers around but no live pictures as far as I can tell.

Please--no Ireland updates here!
Those of us in the States might want to watch it on Versus tonight.

Oh ok! I hadn't realised that you had it on tonight.
I’ll keep schtum ;-)

But it's a bummer for those of us who have nothing.

Well we can create a separate thread if your like, but I shouldn't really spend my working day glued to it!

I agree

I was on Whirpool the other night
guys over there were saying Foxtel is getting 25 new channels in 2010, including EuroSport!
yeah I saw that
really do hope ONE get into the cycling game, they’ve got pretty much everything else after all.
Another nondescript stage?! I am outraged!!1
Stage 1: Gent, Oudenaarde, Kluisbergen, Waregem, Tiegemberg, Nokereberg. Stage 2: Harelbeke, Kluisbergen, Oude Kwaremont, Kruisberg, Brakel, Berendries, Geraardsbergen, De Muur, Bosberg, Affligem, Grimbergen, Brussel. Stage 3: Niel, Tremelo, Baal, Herentals, Kasterlee, Mol, Balen. Names that (should) resonate with classics, beer and bad weather lovers all over the world!
LoL, I was looking at those names.. and ticking off the ones i've been too
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"

Mmmm classic...beer.
I have goosebumps now. Tommeke lives in Balen, no? But was born in Mol.

I'll give you Herentals
but Balen and Mol won’t do it unless Boonen HTFU and stops acting like a teenager . As for the others, I’m an ignoramus.
Niel: big GVA Trofee cyclocross event “Jaarmarktcross”
Tremelo: home of Niels Albert
Baal: home of Sven Nys
Herentals: home of Rik Van Looy (Rik II), “De Keizer van Herentals”
Kasterlee: home of Ludo Dierckxens, “De Beer van Kasterlee” (where beer means bear, sorry about that)
Albertina got Mol/Balen covered.
OK , I'll give you Kasterlee as well because the 2001 P-R is my favourite ever
As for the first three you must have us confused with the Dirt-Mongering Drew.
The closest I’ve come to a religious experience is when we took delivery of the Demeyere cookware the weekend of Het (Volk) and I realized it was made (or based at least) in Herentals. Surely a sign from above?
Watch it Jens

Pfft...

The more he wins now, the more motivation to keep giving Cav a race, unlike some Tornados I know.

Hey, an advanced thanks to anyone who'll do updates today :)
I was going to post Ireland updates in Limousin thread but I’ll refrain because spoilers suck and i didn’t realise Versus were showing coverage! Nice. Think you’ll probably get more than we do here… hm.

Monday 24th August (overall highlights): 7.00 – 8.00pm, (Repeat Tuesday 25th August: 1.00 – 2.00pm)
Probably the same thing we’re going to get on VS.

NO! It's horrible :(
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Excellent
Although the amount of buffering has convinced me not to shell out money for it. Who ever would have believed I’d be singing the praises of Justin TV?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
CTV works best for me on Google Chrome
just a little jerky there. Firefox was impossible—the buffering just went on and on and on…

I've tried everything suggested by you, Jens and Bruce to no avail
But I appreciated the tips
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I've been watching on firefox
and besides it combining with my 5 other open windows to slow my computer i didn’t suffer buffering much, a little jerky from time to time but so is justin!

Perhaps, my crappy dell doesn't have the buffer issues but just slows it all down

one would think
the amount of complains you see regularly here would’ve convinced you not to give them any money looooong time ago…
I have never even considered it until now
but the last few days put that idea to bed

I'm still tempted occasionally by the English commentary
but so far the reliability doesn’t seem to be there. I can put up with problems in free feeds, but if I were paying it would drive me utterly batshit crazy.

ding ding ding ding ding!
We have a winner.

It is extraordinary
I think I have pretty fast internet and I’m in Europe so there shouldn’t be far-away-aussie-issues but I still have a badly stuttering feed.
?
I’ve given up on CTV before but it just seems strange that whatever changes they do people still seem to have issues. Wish A&B could move on to somewhere where on could enjoy their superb work.
(I’ve been watching Eneco with no-probs streaming from RTBF and stuttering CTV audio in the background)
I seem to have read that you have feed issues
due to bandwidth or long distances or whatever?
No slur intended. My aussie mocking usually includes the words “barby” or “shrimp”. My repertoire is limited.
No worries mate
but when you’re taking the pis remember it’s prawns and ‘barbie’ :)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'

Is this wise?
I didn’t want to say “Barbie” seeing as it is sensitive now that Haussler apparently is german again.
Of course we were made to have the piss taken
Read about HH. Was trying to work out if I cared. (I don’t), but barbie is another matter.

It has to do with
the fact that he rode for Germany earlier

Yes as a junior..
He can ride, as long as he hasn’t ridden for Ger for 2yrs, if he rode junior, 3yr if open. so if he doesn’t ride this year he is eligible to ride for Aust. The statement in the article is by the BDR fed, not the UCI..

OK, so what's the definitive word...
… are there likely to be moving pictures which are accessible Down Under? And do not involve endless buffering and ads which associate the work of Gustav Holst with cycling shoes?

Two more riders out of Eneco
Gregory Rast and JJ Haedo both gone.

The only good thing about him
is that he looks very good. Saw him up close a few years back at the finish in Copenhagen, and he is absolutely good looking. Too bad that he is not so good on the bike.
Matt Goss on the other hand is a very good bike rider and I hope that he stays on Saxo Bank.
by LittleOldLady on Aug 21, 2009 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions
He's not a bad sprinter
he just seems to lack those final % of stamina to get to the end of the bigger races intact. On a smaller team maybe he’s have more protection but Saxo almost always have better riders to protect.
Agree
but it is lacking those final % that is so disappointing.
by LittleOldLady on Aug 21, 2009 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions
He does fine in small races
but when the competition and terrain get tough, he cant even hold on. It bothers me that Riis sometimes seems to favor Haedo over Goss, despite the constant lack of results when doing so. Matt’s a keeper, JJ outta go back to the American peloton, it better suits him.
Peloton all together.

Is T Rex working for Mavic now?
That could be problematic if a rider has a flat and the neutral service dinasour eats him. Makes for great tv though.
I mean uh... hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?
I think it's a brit interpretation of "Servais Knaven" actually
but I bet that would put slow wheelchanges into perspective.
what about if
Servais Knaven got eaten by a T Rex?
I mean uh... hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?
Heh. That would never happen
Knaven is a Roubaix-champ.
Most dinosaurs have great respect for the monuments.
And LeFevere
is known to keep a few in his backyard. I’d imagine he’s trained them to eat Silence Lotto riders. That would explain their recent (lack of) results.
I mean uh... hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?
Okay, you had to know I would look it up...
While experts debate over whether the T-Rex could run at all, if they could their top speed would be about 40 kph. It’s doubtful a pro cyclist would have to break a sweat to keep ahead of that.

He’s never been mistaken for Yul Brynner
He’s not bald and his head doesn’t glimmer.
I have no idea who that is

White sox if they give them to you. Black sox if you have to buy your own. Hence Lance.
Dunno, had some white socks that have stayed greyish after lots of washing.
(Still better than black, though.)
In the good old days
The rule book said that socks should be white and shorts black, at least in Denmark. Do not remember if I read it somewhere or if the Danish ES commentators said it at some point this summer. They should never had changed that rule.
