Cobbles. Lots!
So Tom or Fabian. I’d prefer same order as last night ;)

Shit! Don't tell.
I LOVE Stuey, but he likes it hot and dry, but I’ll be screaming if he wins.

On the subject of Stuey and cobbles
I have a “Lou is a sap” story to share…
Remember the doco that SBS did last year, ‘Conquering Roubaix’? At the end there was a montage of photos from the race, with the song “Nobody Sees” by Powderfinger. Well, I heard that song in a supermarket a little while back… and got choked up , LOL. I had to leave the checkout line and collect myself!
Not a sap in my eyes
Music is a powerful trigger, and I probably cry more at sporting courage than for any other reason, although in the last couple of days Teddy Kennedy has brought me undone.
Go Stuey!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Mmmm
Dunno how I’d have gone, explaining what was wrong to the checkout woman, though…
“I’m OK, really” [sniffle] “It’s just that Stuey won Paris-Roubaix two years ago…” [sniffle] “…and this song reminds me…”
It's the whole 'Little Aussie Battler' thing
Stuey presses all the buttons

Good morning everybody!
I’m ducking out of packing to see what’s going on in the internet land. If anyone wants to come and finish packing my life into boxes and bags i’ll give you a fiver! ;)
Cmon Tom! Or Benna!

Is that a 'hid' and a 'who'?
So you survived the TT. Did you cheer for Vino?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Well.. I'm seeing it now so it's unhidden so someone hided it no? Well it would be s trange verb than.
And I survived. Was the only one cheering for Vino. How sad but ok
'Someone hid it'. English is very strange

Language lesson + explanation
There was a problem with the formatting of the page so I hid it for a minute while I fixed it.
No you weren't!
I was cheering! Didn’t you hear me?
I was definitely the only one cheering here at PdC, though…
For sure!
Some folks were saying unkind things about Vino… and some were laughing at me!
It’s like I said to rbjhan – the number of Vino’s fans isn’t important, it’s about the quality of his fans :-)
Haha you are so totally right..
We are not the empty headed who are supporting riders without the x-factor
This looks like fun:
Today’s second stage, between Assen and Emmen, sees the riders tackle a short section of cobbles. Although measuring a mere 1.5km, this section is sure to create a certain anxiety within the peloton and all the riders will be keen to get through unscathed. The riders will face this section at km 175, some 28 km from the finish line.
So we already have predictions. Don't you read what i write?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
So now you know how I read threads!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Ha. Strangely I didn't missed the part someone crying in the supermarket..
I read Boonen and Cancellara and though.. Skip it!
So your prediction 'O great Frinking'?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I'm always wrong..
Here btw sort of a summary of yesterday.. Or story or whatever you want it is: Link
Will give a prediction in 5 minutes
Thank you. Will read now
Predictions Nearly everyone is wrong. They’re about wearing your heart on your sleeve.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Possible,
but after Lou’s prompting I have to go with the Roubaix men: O’Grady, Cancellara and Boonen in no particular order.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'

I've left a comment on the other thread.
Well done. Wish I’d been there.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
A while ago there was mention on the Vuelta homepage
of a cobbled section in one of the Hol- Bel stages that was to be skipped in case of bad weather but now I can’t find it.. Is that the one today, does anyone know?
There's meant to be 53K's of cobbles
but I haven’t read about possible alternatives for bad sweather
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
he gap keeps growing The break is hard at it and making life hard for GAUDIN Damien, who is now 40 seconds adrift, with the main bunch at 1.50. Big crowds lining the route and the rain is still holding off. The temperature is 18ºC.
Where you in Assen yesterday?
How where the crowds yesterday? Seemed a bit tame on TV but all the riders say there was great atmosphere.
Check his link further up
Glad to see others don’t always read closely
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
18 degrees?
And you call that ‘Summer’?! Brrrr!
I was going to say that, given it was 24 here today
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
We had that yesterday
Back to more Winter-ish conditions today (18 degrees max at my place).
And of course yesterday I took the doona off the bed and packed it away… well it’s 11 degrees right now and falling, so I’m just off to get it back down from the top of the wardrobe. Grrr.. I hate this time of year!
I make it a rule never to put the doona away until November ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Oh, I go through this every year.
I’m not really that slow a learner… just ever optimistic about THIS being the year that I don’t have to do the ‘musical bedding’ routine, and have blanket/doona cluttering up the floorspace at the end of the bed.
Yeah, but even Stuey won Roubaix in the heat
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
We know 'our' Stuey

I think that it's called a 'duvet'
in other parts of the world
Honestly? - nothing, personally
Maybe a sheet, if it’s less than 30 degrees. otherwise, just the cool air from the fan at the foot of the bed
plus swim before bed
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
This is why I keep telling these US and Euro types...
… don’t tell me to ‘HTFU’ when I complain about the cold! No, I can’t take the cold like they can, but let’s see ’em cope with 50 degrees with just an electric fan…
In honesty, you can always put on more clothes
but there is a limit to what you can do when it gets too hot.
That said, the challenge up here isn’t the cold, it’s the darkness of winter.
When i lived in Japan
the quality of the light was much harder than the snow
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I dunno...
Putting on more clothes doesn’t seem to work too well for me. You’ve got to be generating some heat to start with, LOL. Seriously, last Winter I had cold injury to the fingers (like chilblains. And yes, I was a bit shocked, too… “You’re telling me I’ve got frostbite, Doc?!”).
But yeah, the darkness would drive me barmy. I don’t know how you lot cope…
You know who else complains a lot?
Old people.

Cobble section in doubt The organisers of the Vuelta have announced that the cobble section of today's stage may be cancelled, depending on the weather. Should it begin to rain, an alternative route will be used. The break now has a 3.33 lead.
What?! HTFU people!
Afternoon all :-)

First sprint
GARCIA DA PENA David has won the first sprint, beating MARTINEZ PEREZ Francisco Jose and WESTRA Lieuwe. The break now has 5.10 over the main group at km 39.
Lead drops for first time
The Saxo Bank-led peloton has brought down the lead for the first time, with the break now having 5.48 over the main bunch, showing that the group has no intention of giving MARTINEZ PEREZ Francisco Jose, LEEZER Tom, ROELS Dominik, WESTRA Lieuweandy GARCIA DA PENA David further margin.

Cyclingnews and the official Vuelta one say it’s Andalucia Cajasur’s Perez, while VeloNews says it’s Fran Perez of Caisse…so err, which is it?! Biciciclismo say it’s Andalucia Perez so I’ll go with them

I know, just fun that it's confusing everyone else too ;)

The ticker's taking short cuts
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
yes, you'd think that, but the tickers are like argh.
Well..it’s just Velonews by the looks of it actually..

Whom do you prefer? we'll go with that...
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Errm I don't really mind but the Cd'E obsessive says to pick Fran even though i'm 99% sure it's Andalucia's Perez.

So is it night or day in your world now? Summer or winter?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
It's morning, and it's summer
but I’m not awake for this sleeper of a stage, so I find my priorities perfectly in place.

Dude...
…using Colorado as the standard for ‘winter’ is like using polar regions as standards for ‘north’ and ‘south.’ A bit much.
You see how calm Vaughters is? That’s because he’s really one giant seething ball of Evil inside. With like, extra Evil.
I went to a summer wedding in Colorado
Was told it was 100 degrees f, but I was still in jeans and long sleeved t shirt. No humidity. What a revelation. Don’t want to try winter though.

Tickerman has a big ego:
The race has to pass by Groningen Airport where the second intermediate sprint is set up. A high-flying sprint indeed. (:
What about Perez?

Bah, young whippersnappers. Nobody reads the classics anymore. Grumble grumble.
If Sweden had a Manneken Pis
I would deny we had one, not show it off for the world to see.
