Bent’s account was indeed genuine, though now sadly deleted: he got fined two weeks’ wages, the maximum any PL club can fine a player for any offence, not that it makes much difference to players who get paid that much. Spurs (& apparently some other clubs) are now considering a total ban on players’ twitter.

As for Philip Hughes, the Aussie cricketer, if you’ve been dropped, it’s really adding insult to injury if you can’t then tell people you’ve been dropped until the bosses do…
