Podium.
Throughout the stage all I kept on thinking was: ‘don’t finish second, you can’t finish second again’.--Heinrich Haussler
Aaaaahahaha!
Tryin’ to keep us off the podium? Heh… not even on your best day… But keep on trying – I hear that they give out knighthoods for beating Aussies ;-)
It's a bit like that
bash-a-rat game you get at funfairs, a bit pointess in the long-term, but oh so satisfying for a few minutes.
Sad isn't it?
But it’s getting to be a bit of a worry. those Brits lost their manners and learnt how to play the game.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Bollocks.
I can still see distinct stains of ‘whatever stops us from losing’ …
'Bollocks' That's a very British word!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
And imagine how we characterise that!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
No
There are many words involved. Not usually those. “Bloody atrocity” comes up a bit… so does “*&%ing disgrace”…
Ummm.. quite warm, really. And there was a smallish thunderstorm in the afternoon, which has cleared up now…
Over here the words we throw around the most
are ‘sore’ and ‘losers’ Mixed in with a bit of ‘ha’ ‘ha’ and ‘take’ ‘that’
But you export the Barmy Army ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I REALLY, REALLY think
We should all now give a brief summary of how we found the weather today…
Ah bugger that
Isn’t Pom bashing sport?
Beautiful here today :-)
I really don’t mean it much monty!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Pom bashing, yeah no worries
The 1932 test… no. No good can possibly come of discussing it. Because it really does send folks into a flying rage. (ja, Monty? ;-) )
I'll stop.
But Hugo Weaving plays a very good bastard, no?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Evening, you lot
So WTF do we do between tomorrow and Thursday?! Other than just about combust with anticipation, of course…
Rest and grow stronger? ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
On a 1.4km circuit?
That’s not a peloton, that’s a perpetual motion machine. 2nd law of thermodynamics here we come.
First a big 113 km loop SW of Bruges
but yeah, most of the peloton will still be intact by the time they reach the local loops.
Cuddles ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
You understand I had to gloat a little bit ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Wash those ears out!
And as the fans’ advocate, you should be pleased he had a crack. Haha!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
well
he did finish 2nd twice in France…..behind two Spanish climbers….man cuddles must be sick of Spaniards by now…..
Ha!
Suspect it goes both ways. He never follows the script ;)

Good afternoon everyone :)
I’m sad this is the last stage, but a very excitable girl. Roll it on!
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
I am indeed :)
Heheehehehe. Looking forward to the screen shots I’ll get today :D
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Congrats on your 'stalking' thread
Photos are outstanding!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
We stupidly mentioned cricket
And we know how tonight will end…
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Yeah
On reflection, it has become clear to me that I need to: 1) HTFU, 2) Not wash up if I don’t feel like it (and learn to live with dishes on the sink) or 3) start eating off sheets of alfoil (there’s some bizarre brilliance in that idea, I reckon, LOL)
Or use trenchers - flat bread will do ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Anyone know if Contador will be around for the podium stuff?
Figured he might do a similar thing to 2007 and present it…or at least be on stage
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
We need to get in the mod for the Worlds
or at least out of this slump. I’m hoping Majope might ressurect the red shorts ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Slump? No slump with me!
Errm you want to get into the spirit of the worlds. How about an incredibly cute video of Valverde and Sammy and Contador from Beijing? :D That features AV speaking English (he’s the one who says you’re a winner, you’re a winner to Sammy) their awesome hug and much more..
And hey, Fabian even pops into it at the end!
http://www.rtve.es/deportes/20080809/samuel-sanchez-asturiano-muy-familiar/131470.shtml
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Yep!
I love that Sammy is doing an interview, spots AV, squeals and just runs off to hug him, completing forgetting the interview :) So, so cute.
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
I *am* in the mood for Worlds!
The beer has been purchased, the leave is booked, I’m ready NOOOOOOOW!
Pity I can't type 'mood'
Worlds should be fun. Different anticipation for short races.
Helsy, you are very generous but it would be like me sending you addresses for Stuey. just…nothing;)
But hey, tonight is your night!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I don't dislike Stuey! :)
But fair enough, i just felt like sharing it. Teehee
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
You don't dislike anyone, it's part of your charm ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
That's not quite true.
There a few riders I don’t like much if at all. I just try to keep it to myself ;)
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Mostly you manage it...
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I am so ready for worlds too
and have no leave, but will be at home on convalecences leave, and i didn’t even think of that when booked operation.. wahooooooo
ohhh but i do have to say, if no aussie wins… I hope like hell that Philippe Gilbert takes the win!!!!!!1
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"
Jens! Voigt, Crit Intl Interview, 2009
Apparently over at the Vuelta it's calm and relaxed in the peloton
Think the end of last year’s :) 139 riders started today’s stage
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
85.2km to go... yawn
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
Serafin Martinez took the solidarity sprint. This is the 4th time he has?
Xacobeo have won over half of them i believe, good money for them and means they’ll be on the podium again. Yay for Serafin!
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
15 mins here for tve-i...

British eurosport going live, fair play to them!
Universal is due in 10 minutes also
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Time 54:12 min going into the last lap (10/11)
Stybar second at +0:43 min
Klaas Vantornout +1:17 min
Svan Vanthourenhout/Radomir Simunek +1:25 min
Is this a quiz? Helsy, tell us the answer please
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Finish
No changes in the final lap
1. Niels Albert
2. Zdenek Stybar
3. Klaas Vantornout
4. Radomir Simunek
5. Sven Vanthourenhout
6. Kevin Pauwels
7. Jan Verstraeten
8. Dieter Vanthourenhout
9. Sven Nys
10 Erwin Vervecken
11. Bart Aernouts
12. Marco Bianco
13. Wylant van Gils (black kit w/ a big question mark)
So is it Niels in the screen shot?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
He looks like he just stepped out of a Calvin Klein ad.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Was there a big group or did Nys really take his toys and go home?
You see how calm Vaughters is? That’s because he’s really one giant seething ball of Evil inside. With like, extra Evil.
Situation after 20’ was: leading trio of Albert/Stybar/Nys, chase group of about 8. After that, things split up. Nys got dropped and slowly went backwards, was overtaken by most of the group and slugged on in no man’s land. Vervecken had a mechanical (rear mech broke off or went into the wheel) and had to run for quite a while. He almost caught back up with Nys at the line. Of the top 10, only Simunek & S. Vanthourenhout came in together.
OK. That hat dispels the CK thing ;)

Duuuuuude just mentioned great support from Erviti!!! Yes, my job is done! :)
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Morning, all.
Did anyone just see that rider (I think from Haitch T C) swap his bike with the moto driver? The race moto guy was riding the bike and the HTC rider was driving the moto. That was fun.

The peloton looks really sparse doesn't it?

Sorry, Helsy
But that’s definitely sub-standard ;-).
(admittedly, my standard is rather high…)
Oh right!
It is an odd stage to commentate on though…I mean, I’d probably just ramble about my boys but he has to be informative and interesting
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
+1 but let's take this opportunity
to recognize his solid effort over the past three weeks. He’s done a nice job.

I'm actually thinking he must be pretty pleased with himself
I can’t imagine he will have too many detractors after this.

He's been so good, except for 'haitch'. He must be tired...

I've said it before but I love those little aspects of cycling

It's great indeed.
I have to admit to liking the last stage of a GT. It’s nice to see them interact and relax and mess around.
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
I don't stand watching Valverde and his dog celebrate
So I’m watching football instead. Not that I stand United getting a couple of thousand minutes of overtime either, but that’s easier to forget.
Staring at the swim team gets you killed by a gang of dancing ninja men who know how to twirl.
no spoilers please, I'm recording the match

Sorry, too late. We used it for parts.
The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.
I thought we
already established that “the Twitter” was not an acceptable source of information around here . . .
How long are they expecting me to stay here?
Does he make it easier for the CdE by staying out. Fewer counters to deal with?
Ahhh today for them is pretty easy anyway, the sprint teams will take it up soon
so they can just chill. Acosta/Erviti will keep AV safe during the sprint
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Hi, everybody. Is it over yet?
