What are the Worlds TV/Video Schedules?
I want to make sure I don't oversleep and miss out on the live thread party but I don't want to get up any earlier than necessary. The current posted times make me tired just looking at them. Waking up in the middle of the night to watch Euro racing is such a burden for us left coasters to carry. Sigh. I think we deserve the award for most dedication. 2:30am for the TT and 1:30am for the road race? Yikes! Might as well not go to bed at all. Reminds me of watching the Olympics road race.

My question to the cafe, especially those in Europe is - what time are your local TV schedules showing as live video start times?
Universal's schedule reflects the same start times as the actual race times on the official Mendrisio 09 site. So I am wondering if the Universal schedule is not yet displaying the actual video start times or are we going to get streaming video of the entire men's races both days?
The Universal Sports Schedule shows:
Women's Elite Time Trial: Wednesday, Sep 23 at 8:00am ET
Men's Elite Time Trial: Thursday, Sep 24 at 5:30am ET
Women's Elite Road Race: Saturday, Sep 26 at 3:00am ET
Men's Elite Road Race: Sunday, Sep 27 at 4:30am ET
Updated: The UCI has posted start lists and TV coverage info. Sure enough they are showing the entire men's TT and road race live. Wow.

The UCI now has
correct startlist for tomorrow’s races. Now, with start times!
Tomorrow is U23 men and Women crono.

updated with linkage. They are showing the whole thing live on Universal.
Damn. That really does mean it starts at 1:30 and 2:30 am here. I took Thursday morning off to watch it and go back to sleep for a few hours.

The roadraces have a good number of uneventful laps that you can easily afford to miss.

I mean to write- that is a good point.

So, then, what time would be good to start watching?
I wish I could watch from the gun but eso no es bueno….

Well races over there usually end between 1030 and 1130 ET...
So I’m guessing around 730 or 800am ET. But don’t quote me on that!

Are you covering it for any of the cycling sites Gavia?

I'm writing a preview of the men's rr right now
preview of men’s crono and women’s rr are coming.
They’ll be on steephill. I probably won’t do daily updates, though.

Also, I didn't leave the U23 races off for any reason other than Universal Sports currently
shows video on demand as the only choice for the U23 races.

Eurosport is showing them
so there’s a good chance there will be a stream available

I have to pick and choose.
No way will I be able to function at work during the day if I watch them all but I plan to watch on VOD later when I get home from work each day.

ah, universal sports needs to realize tht people in the states will watch the racing live, no matter what time it starts
- Universal Sports originally planned to broadcast all events live. They have informed us that due to the very early start times, only the Elite Men’s and Women’s events will be live; other events will be delayed coverage only
from cyclingfans

So the women's RR
gets the “oh dear, I forgot to get out of bed slot”? :-(

LOL. I wouldn't even have to go to bed first. It starts at Midnight here.

Looks like you can blame the UCI for that
last year they had U23 on Friday, Women’s Saturday and Men’s Sunday. This year the U23 race has moved into Saturday afternoon bumping the Women’s race up to compete with Saturday morning cartoons and the like.
by Monty. on Sep 23, 2009 3:28 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was going to say I didn't remember it being like that last year.
So essentially the UCI are saying that the women are less worthy of prime time slot than the U23 men. Whereas the women’s race last year was one of the best races, me or women, of the year. Perhaps it was just too good & they’re rather worried it might happen again!
by civetta on Sep 23, 2009 4:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
They also
didn’t have a U23 TT last year. Maybe they are trying to be fair and let the U23 finish off TT day and the women RR day. It seems really odd.
by Monty. on Sep 23, 2009 4:09 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yes, "fair" in the sense of treating elite women like U23 men

And whatever happened
to the investigation into Duarte’s doping case. Is that another one that TAS might give a verdict on, but not until it has expired.

Oh well I'll just move to Switzerland then, shall I?
I don’t get Swiss TV channels on the telly here in Sydney, you know ;-)
(of course, I pray that the gods will make it happen on my monitor…)
Switzerland… yeah right. Not likely. Too bloody cold. And landlocked! Geez, the thought makes me feel claustrophobic.

I'd be dead within 3 seconds
But when I was in Switzerland I thought they were really pretty. Not once did I ever consider swimming in them =(

Oddly enough, no
That has absolutely no appeal for me.
I’d be happy to look at said lakes, from a warm vantage point. But I’m not swimming in them.
I did once consider going for a swim at the beach at Port Campbell, in the early evening in the middle of Winter. That’s Antarctica at the bottom of the map, BTW. Luckily the rips and the nasty-looking undertow put me off. I did not even consider the water temperature at the time. Now that was a close call…

Just a one-way ticket to the Southern Ocean, 'eh?
Didn’t like the look of it. And of course I had never swum there before. No lifeguards – hell, no people around. Nope, it wasn’t going to happen. I admit that I was insane to contemplate it… but not so insane as to forget the basics rules of swimming in open water ;-)

The Swiss try and keep it a secret
that the Italian part has never-ending sun and even palm trees.
I have ridden with an aussie for the past two years and our definitions of cold are strikingly different.
at 15C (59F) he was ready to hang it up for season ….. while I got my balaclava, Sorels, and snow gear ready.
After much training I could get him to ride at 10 C but only if a boulangerie (coffee and donut) was on every horizon

So that’s about 1100 ET in the States. Woot, no waking up at 0430 for me.

Not all of it
Only an hour at 6.30, and another hour at 8pm, according to the schedule I saw
by celerity on Sep 23, 2009 3:56 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
There's a third hour....
One HD schedule for RR, ‘Live’ on Sunday 27.09.09:
- 18:30 – 19:30
(irrelevant crap)
- 20:00 – 21:00
(more irrelevant crap)
- 12:00 – 01:30 (yes, that’d be Monday at that point)
And that’s all, folks!
For the TT tomorrow… nothing. (To steal Seahorse’s favourite phrase…Imagine our surprise!)

O/T for Lurker McLurkerson: I tried to tune in One HD which was unsuccessful, but the upside was I got to see Andrew Winton on slide guitar. He is the spitting image of his brother. Very cool! It’s ‘Breath’ at Book Club tonight. ;)

I don't know
how many of these are geo-restricted, but France3 puts up a monthly calendar of stuff it’s showing as a webcast (presumably because they can’t fit it in their main schedule).
