Have you failed to notice

the enthusiastic talk about the 2010 Worlds amongst us Aussies, that has been going on for some time now? LOL

by Lou... on Sep 26, 2009 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

It's 'shielas' here, not 'broads'

…and seeing as how most of the Aussies here are ‘sheilas’… the most vocal ones, at any rate…

Ok, so are there any Australian women named Sheila?

Or would that be the functional equivalent of giving your son Richard the nickname Dick in the US?

I'm hoping in their inebriated state they can still spell 'Aussie' though

The dates:

29.09.10 – U23 and Women’s CLM
30.09.10 – ME CLM
01.10.10 – U23 RR
02.10.10 – Women’s RR
03.10.10 – ME RR

And it gives me pleasure to say that it’s gonna be late nights/early mornings for you non-Antipodeans, bwwwaaahahaha! Ahem.

by Lou... on Sep 26, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually

Not all non-Antipodeans live in Europe. The races should be ending at just about this old guys normal bedtime instead of 10:30 AM. That means an evening of live bike racing. Woot!

i'm awake by then, and you only really need to see the last half hour or so... maybe an hour

Thanks for this. Easter is April 4th next year.

I’d better tell my husband about this now, to prepare him…

by Ruthann on Sep 26, 2009 8:37 PM EDT reply actions

Ah, thanks. I'd been wondering.

I’m about to inundate my boss with leave forms for next year, you see ;-)

by Lou... on Sep 26, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Excellent.

Easter means Monday off. Fun fact: RVV is always on the 14th Sunday of the year.

Great

The Montreal race is on a Sunday! I won’t even have to miss work to see it!

Thanks for the post.

I did put the web links that

UCI listed on their web in the calendar notes ….. but not sure if others see it when importing / linking to the ICAL format

There are a couple of interesting developments in the women's calendar

which (following the Canadian precept) could well be tests of the infrastructure/organisation needed to host a far bigger men’s race in later years.

Firstly, from 27-29th March they’ve scheduled a three day Tour of India. For the moment its only a 2.2, and as it overlaps with the Trofeo Alfredo Binda, a World Cup race, it’s pretty much guaranteed to attract a week field. Even so it’s an interesting development.

Then at the beginning of May there is a three day 2.1 ranked Tour of Chongming Island stage race in China, followed by a one day Tour of Chongming Island World Cup race (don’t blame me that both races have the same name). That pretty much guarantees the whole peloton moving to China for a week, especially as there is a free week afterwards to recover for those planning to race the Tour de l’Aude too.

And sadly, the Grande Boucle is missing from next year’s calendar. It’s been shrinking in recent years, especially after all the arguments with ASO over the name, but let’s just hope this is a year out to take stock, rather than the end.

The Tour of Chongming Island does have its own web page

here. I’m still trying to get to the propaganda posters on the fun page, so I can’t give a personal review.
