Oscarito to retire at the end of next year.

Oscar Freire the three time world champion has announced his plan to retire at the end of the 2010 season.  He will finish his contract with Rabobank through the end of next season and concentrate on winning a fourth World Championship.  At just 33 years old it seems like he might be a little young to retire if you can compare his age to other sprinters who have retired from the sport in recent years.  Riders like Cipolini, Zabel and current rider Robbie McEwen have raced well past their 35th birthdays but may not have had the same battles with their overall health that Oscarito has.  I hope he has a memorable final campaign and can deliver some results that will remind us all of what a great career he has had.

Wait... that plaintive wail I hear... sort of something like a bleet combined with a honking snort...

… I do believe that’s the sound of a goat weeping…

:-)

What a guy. I’ve been expecting this. He is a true great. Here’s hoping that next year’s World’s course suits him.

Oh, and he’s gonna be on my VDS next year.

Too late. He can't change his mind now.

    We’ve already ordered the cake!

The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.

Cake or death?

Staring at the swim team gets you killed by a gang of dancing ninja men who know how to twirl.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
