Tour of Missouri Stage 3 Live
Today's stage description from the official website:
Stage 3 –Farmington to Rolla, 114.3 mi. (183.9 km)
Perhaps the most challenging stage in the three-year history of Tour of Missouri awaits the riders during this stage. The start in Farmington’s quaint downtown belies the challenges to come in the Ozark Mountains. With over 6,000 feet of total climbing on hill after hill, this day will begin to shape the race for the overall champion. The familiar finish in Rolla could again see a solo winner as it did in 2008 with Michael Barry.

Currently it is the low res stream with no commentary. The high resolution video with commentary starts approximately 2 hours before the stage finish.

Intermediate sprint #1 (Pilot Knob) results are:
1 Michael Friedman (Garmin-Slipstream)
2 William Frischkorn (Garmin-Slipstream)
3 Matthew Wilson (Team Type 1)
OK, OK, probably no sprinting actually occurred but still was funny to see.
Appel is having a big media event today. trying to keep track of both this and that is proving
difficult but I will persevere.
It's about time I upgrade my Mac. Bought it right before the upgrade to Intel
And I hear Snow Leopard doesn’t work on the PowerPC
my daughter has a brand new 13 MacBook Pro, mine is a 2006 Intel iMac.
I’d love a new one but with 3 furlough days a month right now its not in the near future.
I bought my desktop new in 2005, and a refurbished MacBook in 2006 when I started doing my own thing
It’s about time I treated myself to an upgrade. I now have the oldest computers in the company.
High res video is up.
But the commentators were goofing around not realizing mics were on live. Paul making jokes.
Sorry it's another one of those crazy work days....
I’ve been doing tons of lurking lately, not much time to chat.
I'm just brushing up on my knowledge of Rolla

Frankie keeps saying that Garmin has a plan. I have been trying to figure that out for the last hour.
Any ideas? How does two guys up the road all day in a three-man break help you beat Cav?
Garmin doesn't have to chase, so they get to keep fresh for the sprint?

Little known fact
Missouri University of Science and Technology [located in Rolla] has a half-scale Stonehenge replica built from solid granite located on campus.
Big on mining and astronauts as it seems.

I thought it was bigger than that
I used to ride by it all the time as I spent a couple of summers just down the road from there. the whole area is pretty esoteric.

JV speaks of strategy
They thought the stage would be more aggressive, hence sending two people up the road. Surprised no one followed
hey, its a strategy. If it works i'd be happy for Freidman.
Vaughters said he sacrificed virgins last night so they’d win instead of coming in 2nd and Farrar won. So maybe…

Michael Barry in a break
must be a very dangerous thing. He can just sit there on the front all day.

i remember him winning but I couldn’t remember what stage.

Looks like Levi near the front.
Astana have been quiet so far. A little too quiet.
The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.
I'm surprised more of the domestic teams aren't throwing caution to the wind
and just going for doomed attacks or something.
The only thing I can think is if the pace is simply just too high
Most of these guys spend the year racing crits. No excuse for Liqu, Saxo or other Pro teams though
If Garmin were really evil...
they would knock Cavendish around a little and make the Columbia train slow down.
The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.
if they made him fall and injured him sure they'd get a fine and relegation today but at least Cav would be out.
They would get worse. But they are evil.
The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.
Friedman's he had his shoe off and was rubbing his foot.

He's trying to get a couple more escorts from his main man Big George.

from CN:
Floyd Landis (OUCH) just pulled up beside Columbia. As he told us earlier, he’ll be setting up US Pro Criterium champion John Murphy.
I think so

Wow, that was a fun finish
More of them, please.

I thought it was one of the Kelly riders too
why on earth can’t they give the people operating the finishing line cameras first choice on where to stand. It sometimes looks like they have to fight for position with the grannies and small children begging for goodies from the caravan.
Nice disaster for Columbia, new blueprint for attaking the Columbia train.
The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.
agreed, but i think it takes too many wildcards for this to replicate in Europe
Too many of these teams have nothing to lose in Missouri, so they can sit back, do nothing and then cause chaos in the finale. I don’t see how that would work in Europe at a GT where so many teams are protecting their overall contenders and want a nice, clean sprint, not the chaos we just saw
New blueprint?
Rolling landscape and a rested field attacking the hell out of a tired Columbia train.
No horn, watch for finger.
How many teams would love to get just one victory over Cav? Got to keep plugging away at it.
The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.
Cav lost?! How'd Thor do it?
"If I were World Road Race Champion, I would wear black shorts. That probably has more to do with me being on the wiser side of 30 and understanding better that the decisions I make now never really go away. White shorts would not be something I'd be proud of...." - David Millar, in Rouleur.
ha!

I can't wait for the Columbia whining to start! Pick the main excuse:
a) Other teams are lazy and made us work all day. They don’t know how to race properly.
b) It’s the bush leagues out here with all these domestic teams. They don’t know how to race properly.
c) Garmin are idiots and sent two guys up the road on a pointless break. They don’t know how to race properly.
d) other (please explain)
d)
“It’s not a level playing-field. We don’t want to point fingers but some are riding the chicken. And they don’t do it properly.”
d)We slowed for the red light and everyone else just kept going, they weren't riding safely.
The first cyclist to stand up to him. And he did it in silence.
Thor wins the yellow leaders jersey despite tie on time. Todays result determined leader.
Cervelo have their work cut out for them tomorrow. Columbia can sit on and put the train together for the easy victory. Unless Cervelo doesn’t chase down the break that’s sure to form. More fun tomorrow I’m sure.
