I am here
I am following the text updates while I see the Australian Open. But I think I will sleep before the race is over. Too late here.
Your bike doesn't want to crash so relax and let it roll!!!
Australian races are perfecly timed for the Pacific Time Zone. 6pm here.

Just back from the beach. Thanks for this Zoe.
Still with the ‘haitch’! That said, it’s sort of soothing coverage…
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
DO all Aussies say Haitch? I saw a video of Henderson saying it.
"Awesome! is more about what gets fans excited than what’s harder to do." - Chris...
No they don't.
This going to sound bizarre, but in the past ‘haitch’ was a Catholic school thing. Ptotties said ‘aitch’. So Irish influence. It is however widely used now. Even ten years ago commentators would not have been allowed to say it. Times change I suppose. I hate it…

Isn't it good that there's a woman in the commentary box?
Gap 6 mins and 4 secs. Bringing the gap down. About 2 hours to go…

eh They do have a point in that if you want to read through the whole stage or whatever
and not see who the winner is and go through all of the action but their front page all ready blows that out of the water anyways

True. Good point. I don't read them after the fact though.

My advice then: never say this to a teacher
but it’s a wonderful job. Be a maths teacher. English teachers are drowned in marking/ grading.

I like his playing style a lot but he is a mental nut head often on court.
March 14, 2010: The great one returns!
on this one I am neutral
but yeah I agree with you on both statements. I will not start the Federer Vs Nadal thing I did that in the other thread just for some polemica. They are 2 great players. Being Federer the greatest of all time. But I still root for Rafa.
Your bike doesn't want to crash so relax and let it roll!!!
But that was fun :)

What sin did they commit?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'

Gert Steegmans, YOU FUCKING RIPPER!
Faith restored. Totally made my afternoon! Thank you, big boy :-)
At work, I was waiting for results to start showing in the google news search (my only window on the outside world, due to a fascistic firewall) … and the first thing I got wind of was that Alby had experienced Issues of some sort. My devastation was quickly forgotten, though, when further creative searching revealed the name of the first loser.
Oh man, I reckon I’d have only been marginally more excited if he’d won the damn thing! (we will see whether that is correct soon enough. Within a day or two we should see ’Lou’s reaction to Gert winning’, for comparison…)
I don't know how he got there..
Menglers hill he was at the back struggling… Obviously picked up after that…… maybe this year he might turn around, remember he was good the first stage at TDU last year, let’s wait and see….

DEFENDING Santos Tour Down Under champion Allan Davis’s chances of a repeat victory are all but gone after the 2010 race’s first day. He will be less than impressed with his Astana teammates, after a tactical bungle. Davis, who was at the back of the main peloton as the riders climbed Menglers Hill, got left behind soon after when his team mates failed to realise he was riding off the back of the bunch. Without team mates to support him, he fell further behind the leaders as the pace at the front split the main peloton split into three groups. After the stage, a disappointed Davis said being 30 seconds of the pace, let alone minutes, was enough to effectively end any rider’s chances of winning the tour.

Your explanation's better than mine... but I have the solution!

Hey.. You know me oracle of the explanation
"Here the high school level of immaturity will be left to hottitude columns and people like myself." Der Phil. H
Oracle... man Astana need you, the world needs you.
So is the explanation all your own work? Nice…

Eeeh no..

Never mind. I was going to give you an A+..

That right side up smile suggests you're gloating..

Ooh.. If you miss you're leader and you don't notice it it's baaad..

I couldn't agree more... but I thought we were being supportive of the 'Glorious Nation'?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
We are.
We’re showing our support by saying: “FFS, what sort of a mickey-mouse operation is this?! WTF was that? Your little joke? We’re not laughing – and I reckon Vino will struggle to see the funny side, too. We look forward to you learning from this experience – and never, ever seeing a repeat. Now go get ’em!”
Wouldn't have happened if the Great One had been there :-(
But I have to admit that I’m struggling to be sad for more than a few seconds… Hey, did you see who the first loser was?!
Poor Haussler..
"Here the high school level of immaturity will be left to hottitude columns and people like myself." Der Phil. H
The difference is
… that I am ecstatically happy about the first loser :-)
Why?
"Here the high school level of immaturity will be left to hottitude columns and people like myself." Der Phil. H
'Cos he's a big boofy bloke... Lou loves 'em ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
'cause I'm a huge fan of Gert
And I have optimistically maintained the belief that he may still live up to his potential. (The man has a hell of a lot of potential!). .And his result in the crit on Sunday made me… quiet and reflective (not disappointed as such, because I knew not to expect too much… but… yeah, OK, I was disappointed, LOL).
And I know that this is the start of Great Things for Gert. And if JB does manage to help Gert to achieve Great Things, as promised, then he might not find himself up against the wall when I am Dictator ;-)
Well It's the TDU.. A second place isn't a big thing in Europe..
But nice to see him.. I think ;)

Elitist... patronising elitist
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Not saying that a second place is a big thing anywhere
… just that this particular second place is a big thing for me, considering who it was ;-)
I like Greipel too... he's very sweet
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
No radios.
Apparently Astana didn’t bring radios to the race. Don’t know why (team hasn’t responded), but that’s what Davis is saying in an article on CyclingNews.com.
Result btw

Your boy's got a chance Lou, with LA and JB in his corner. Formidable really.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I sincerely hope so.
I’m still bummed that his reunion with Robbie was so short-lived. I reckon that Robbie was the man to mentor Gert.

Where was everyone?
IN BED!! Some of us live in European timezones and have jobs you know…and some of us also exhausted all our brain cells/will to stay awake doing our tax return last night! I will join you at some point in the week, when I need sleep less :)
I don't think anyone wondered really ... just saying.
Europe sleeps while the world turns… we know that.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
No. Just pointing out we know you sleep ;)

I was more asking about the Aussies. Its their race and the Merican had to put up the live thread. WTF?

that's what we have americans for,
putting up live threads. Yappy aussies are there for animating the live threads, adulating the glorious nation, starting cults and spreading exotic diseases (see seahorse). And oh yeah, they’re in charge of the PdC Limo too. I’d say they have enough on their plate.
Oh thanks, guys
I’ve been trying to convince people that we don’t all have ’roos loose in the top paddock. Did you not get the memo?
I'm slightly concerned that the poster below their lavatories says London on it.
Please don’t let these be Brits….
Because Australians drink their beer straight out of the bottle ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
*sigh*
I’ll just start packing, shall I? I seem to be getting close to the top of the deportation list…
You just had to post that picture didn't you? And who's going to have you...
Well I drink my beer out of the bottle. I’m often one step behind you know that. ( This looks like a bunch of unrelated sentences. I’m sure you can sort it out).
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
The monks say it should be served in a glass.
And they have a point. There’s beer… and then there’s Beer.
Listen, so does my father ... and they may have a point, but it's a pain.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
A pain?
You drink wine from the bottle, then? (yes, yes, I’ve done it too – I’m talking about usual practice here…)
Ah well, your Dad can take comfort from the fact that he tried… ;-)
For him, with women, it's about 'ladylike-ness'... lovely man and he has tried...
