Superprestige Gavere (almost) LIVE (9am EST, I think)
I know nothing beyond this
Sunday, 21 November: Gavere - Superprestige
The 250th Superprestige race will be in Gavere on the 21st of November. There's a fair bit of asphalt, which is not to my liking. In the field and in the forest though, it's up and down with fast and technical descents, difficult climbs and lots of jumping off and on the bike, which makes up for some.
(with a thank you to gstgirl's fantastic preview series)...
...and the fact that I spotted the same start time on the BVLS link. So I'm sticking this up, as it's an hour before, and maybe no-one else is doing it.
Scared off by talk of asphalt? How can that be? ;-)
Looking again... still nothing. Ok, this minimal effort will have to do, as the cats demand breakfast.

yay!
oh, and don't you love the parcours map?
It’s awesome, so simple & nicely designed

Dear Cyclocrossers
I know it would be cold & nasty, but just for my entertainment, please could one of you fall in the water today? I would be grateful forever. Much love, Pigeon
I'm here! I'm awake!
Little visit to the alma mater yesterday, only just got back in time for some CX fun. Thank you JFS for sticking this up!
will you write a report on yesterday?
and by the way, we were disappointed in the lack of streaking, with PdC colours for identification….
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 8:55 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah, sure. The pictures aren't super fantastic though
The battery of my big camera died after two laps or so
good for me too...
try one of the BVLS yolasite streams? they’re often good back-ups
still just pre-race talk, you’re not missing much

Official site
http://superprestige.vt4.be/ outside of Belgium it does seem to work in the UK at least, and Holland.
Yay!
So pleased! It’s always horrible when everyone else is watching it, and you’re the only one suffering without a stream

If you run into the georestricted thing in the future
change your computer clock to the same time as Belgium and it should work. At least it’s worked for me in the past.
Had my own race this morning which prevented me from joining you live, reading the summary now. Thanks for doing a great job with the thread and comments, guys. CX is showing the rest of the site what it’s really all about.
"Your not going won't unbreak her arm."
Women's results
1. Sanne van Paassen
2. Helen Wyman
3. Sofie de Boer
4. Sanne Cant
5. Nikki Harris
A Helen Wyman-focussed report on Cycling News – sounds like an exciting race!
Or..... she's aiming for.....
KOKSIJDE!!!!
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 8:45 AM EST up reply actions
Check out from the photo
and also – isn’t Sanne vP just so cute & happy-looking all the time? She seems to look like this wherever she comes (though the top step thingy must help). Of course I only want Helen to win (though I’d let Nikki H or Gabby D win too) but if she has to be beaten, Sanne vP looks like she loves it a lot!
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 8:59 AM EST up reply actions
Yep, she was just as happy & smiling
at the ceremony of the little cross race of Woerden where she finished 2nd.
Stybar possibly facing "monster fine" or even starting ban
because of unregulatory (apparently not a word) jersey layout with sponsor names.
By the way!
You’ll all be happy to know Belgium is expecting the first snow by the end of the week =D
(possibly, at least)
Yeah
In the christmas period (sorta), they’re giving away free beer when you buy the powertools… doesn’t seem too wise.
Is this week's prize really
A bike, a bunch of powertools and a box of beer????
That’s one hell of a combination to use at the same time!
oh ok, that's just slightly less dangerous
but still, completely insane!
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:00 AM EST up reply actions
The beer box was intermingled with the powertools boxes...
Not to say that there are not additional beer prizes.

is he the one who trained for the snow & the ice & the cold of Czech Republic
on the beaches of Cali?
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:01 AM EST up reply actions
Thijs Van Amerongen, I think
D VTH is a BKCP guy, same outfit as Niels Albert (white and black). It was a AA Drink rider (blue and green) who faceplanted
yep. Trying to do a confirmation on the back numbers.
faceplant’s a good time to check out a back number.
He did not look like he was having fun yesterday
Serious pain face on most of the time. Gerben De Knegt looked even worse though
where were you watching from?
did you get to see Styby’s jumps every time he went over the triangle-ramp?
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:10 AM EST up reply actions
I moved around
I know the shortcuts, ha. I was at the stairs, the second sandpit, the snakecorner hill, then the first sandpit section for a while, and saw the sprint finish. No jumps, boo :(
yeah, something must have been wrong
De Knegt’s usually not very pain-face-y, is he? more like the “long stare.”
I shouted at him a few times, because he was all alone
and looked he wasn’t enjoying himself at all, but no reaction. Some of the other guys behind (Jan Denuwelaere, Enrico Franzoi, Walsleben) gave a little smile if you shouted for them.
nah, it was totally athwart, then he shifted it more in line with his line
after briefly holding up the buy behind.
then he was being verrry polite
because really, when you normally carry the bike on your shoulder, the back end sticks way out to the other side. the other guy in black was Page.
Poor Klaas, after his crash yesterday
but at least he’ll be less tired today!
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:17 AM EST up reply actions
Oh, spare a thought for Jonathan Page
Apparently Planet Bike is going bust, so he and Katie Compton are looking for new sponsors.
He says Katie should be fine, but he’s not as well placed… He’s based in Europe for the season isn’t he?
Hi, everybody. My thanks to you all for the translations, educated commentary
and rider IDs. Looks tough out there.
You wouldn't think a little rain would stop the God of Thunder. Although maybe he’s conflicted now that he has to wear a rainbow. -Majope
'morning!
How’s the weather with you? I ask, because it’ grey & nasty here, I’m hoping it’s sunny somewhere in the world!
(Also cos I’m British, & it fits the stereotype!)
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:22 AM EST up reply actions
Hee. You're asking the wrong person! I'm outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota,
and we had 11" of snow a week ago! It’s been cold all week and it’s sleeting/raining now (and we’re all hoping the snow falling now will stay “up north” of us today.)
So, basically, I’m also hoping it’s sunny somewhere else in the world, too! We Have A Dream, yes? :-)
You wouldn't think a little rain would stop the God of Thunder. Although maybe he’s conflicted now that he has to wear a rainbow. -Majope
Yikes!
Makes me feel a bit better it’s just grey & murky!
Ah well, somewhere it’s blue skies….
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:27 AM EST up reply actions
We obviously need some Aussies in here, bragging about their excellent weather!

Or Gavia
doesn’t the sun always shine on our Gav?
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:29 AM EST up reply actions
Klaas V slowly going backwards?
Or just leaving a bit of space at the back of the front “whip” for safety?
Other hypothetical translation
“we’re organising this race, and are failing journalistic objectivity 101”
But
they don’t have to be completely objective, do they? It’s not the public broadcaster, everybody’ll understand how it works.
Yeah, I know
That one comment was pretty funny though, Gavere, best race of the season. Yeah. Right.
Wellens not having a good race...
what’s up with him?
and is that being helped by a team-mate? In ’Cross?
Went too hard in the first lap again
He can’t seem to get in his head that he’s not as good as the rest any more, and he may need to pace himself sometimes
Both Fidea and Rabo are using at least some rudimentary team tactics
in the second group(s). Not that it’s helping in any obvious way.
This is as good as Neils has looked all season
At least that I’ve been watching for
My fruit bowl is full of sex wax--gavia
For Niels?
Sure. No wins for him so far, that’s seriously weird. He’s bound to get one one of these days.
But he's been looking kinda crap
I know it’s reasonable for Niels in the abstract, but Niels winter 2010?
Is he pacing his season?
Or everyone else just better this year?
Oh, thinking of Nielske, how do the diminutives work in Dutch/Belgian-Dutch? Is it -je for things and -ke for people?
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:36 AM EST up reply actions
oh, ok
but names like Janneke and Marieke – I thought they were diminutives, like Katy or Nicky
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:38 AM EST up reply actions
so it should be Nielsje..... Kevinje?
except Kevin’s little nickname = yoah!
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:39 AM EST up reply actions
No, it doesn't really work
It’s gonna have to be Yoah. Though I’ve heard him being called Kevin pronounced in French (with a shwa as the first vowel, and the -vin pronounced as the French word for wine).
with a -t-je
when you can’t add the -je directly? Or something like that. Which starts to sound a little like -ke anyway.
I would just like to say, I love vt4.be
I love the graphics reminding us who’s who, & I LOVE the stream!
I’d definitely buy the powertools they’re promoting….. and the beer, but that goes without says, yoah?
looks that way
but great coordination of the cameras & knowing what to show

Pauwels, Nys,
playing momentary games / who goes first. Don’t know if it’s enough to give any of the others the hint of a chance to get back.
Is it my imagination
or has he DNFed every race this season?
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:51 AM EST up reply actions
Something like that, yeah
If he doesn’t do better he’s gonna lose his Sunweb contract after 1 January too.
and i din't even notice!
Must be cleverer than I think!
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 9:56 AM EST up reply actions
so, it's a bad sign if my laptop is starting to keep bad time, right?
noticing that it’s out of synch by a few minutes with the cellphone.
Translatey time, please?
gs, ed, you are my favourite people right now!
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 10:02 AM EST reply actions
Is Yoah the anti-Cav?
you know, in terms of post-race verbosity?
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 10:04 AM EST up reply actions
I think a "Yoah" jersey or hat would be very funny.
It’s the anti-Hoste, for sure. Sort of like heads and tails, on a PdC jersey.
/o\ah.

haha, perfect for a CX flag
oh, oh, wouldn’t it be great if Albertina could take one with her on her Winter Cross holiday?
by Sarah Connolly on Nov 21, 2010 10:08 AM EST up reply actions
We need to join it to a "speak no evil" graphic.
Ø.
Wellens seems like the most interesting interview, and has really nice smile lines. And a TOTALLY different, sharp accent. Where’s he from?
checked wikipedia, it says born in
Vorselaar. And when you click on that, it lists him as one of two famous people born there. No help at all, but very funny.
and it's in the arrondissement of....
wait for it…
Turnhout.
Bwa ha ha! So he’s actually, literally, Bart Wellens van Turnhout.
Nys
“Tougher than I thought. I lost the line when I looked back for Albert so Pauwels overtook me there. When I had to accelerate half way up the last climb, that took a lot of power so I couldn’t really get a decent gap. Pauwels was very strong.”
Styby
I wasn’t good enough, it wasn’t my day. I’m happy I managed to pass Klaas in the end. During the race his knee didn’t bother him, but it hurt before.
Thibau Nys!
Stybar
I wasn’t good enough really. It wasn’t my day. Still happy to have passed Klaas and take fifth. Ah well, that’s racing. I felt my knee a little before the race but not during. The season is still long, Nys may have a bad day later on and I’m back on top."
Haha
- Next week it’s Gieten, do you want to win there?
° Ehrm, I really want to be good the day before.
Thanks ted & gs for the translations, I really appreciate them!
