This is super! Thanks Watergirl!

I’ll print it when I get home and it can go on my work notice board. After all, I do most of my race following at work ;-)

Ah.

But is the omission of 1.HC Veenendaal-Veenendaal (“Dutch Food Valley Classic”) on the 2010 VDS Calendar by design or by mistake…?

Talking about VDS,

I have added some more, hopefully interesting, statistics: http://www.podiumcafevds.com/stats.php

by tedvdw on Feb 10, 2010 12:41 PM EST reply actions

Great stuff.

I think it’s discouraging, though, that so many of the same teams are coming up with the same riders. Guessing the Accountant is Mr. 74…

Well, he was the #1 pick last year.

The hope was that increasing his price would make him a less attractive pick, but I’m thinking maybe it didn’t work.

Last year’s top 25 picks (rider/# teams/last year’s price):

Alberto Contador 101 25
Heinrich Haussler 82 2
Mark Cavendish 79 20
Andy Schleck 78 16
Leif Hoste 70 4
Allan Davis 64 4
Vincenzo Nibali 60 6
Michael Rogers 59 10
David Zabriskie 58 6
Christian Vandevelde 54 8
Simon Gerrans 53 2
Lars Boom 53 1
Luis Leon Sanchez Gil 51 6
Andre Greipel 51 2
Damiano Cunego 48 20
Gert Steegmans 48 4
Philippe Gilbert 47 16
Carlos Barredo Llamazales 44 2
Gerald Ciolek 42 10
Svein Tuft 42 4
Graeme Brown 42 1
Tom Boonen 41 20
Adam Hansen 41 1
Levi Leipheimer 40 18
Daniel Martin 40 2

There were 185 teams total.

could well be an underrated 1-pointer that people like. Doesn’t mean it’s someone who will have all that much influence in the end.

It was worse when the top guys were on everyone’s team. When Contador won the year’s biggest prize, it did nothing to separate out the teams.

Thank you for finally posting that.

I had requested something like that last week, and its awesome to finally have some stats like that too look at.

Finally?

The popular rider list with secret names (“…wait x days…”) was always there. All the info on that page is quite interesting, perhaps, but not very useful for building your own team.

by tedvdw on Feb 10, 2010 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

What's wrong with you today? No need to get on my back.

I wanted data that showed a break down of how many people teams had selected within the different price points. This information with the team structure gives me just the data I wanted for that info. If you don’t know what to do with it or want it, that is fine. But I find it very useful for me. Thanks.

Dude, chill

No need to read any tone of ill will in my post. Was just wondering why you said finally when I didn’t feel I had obliged your request. Turns out maybe I did, so good for you.

by tedvdw on Feb 10, 2010 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry if I misinterpreted what you wrote, but it came across as being

a douchebag comment directed towards me. Sorry if I read too much into it.

All I was saying was that I had requested the data that showed a breakdown of how many riders within certain cost categories teams had, and was told that info would not be provided until after the deadline. I said finally in that I was happy this was posted since I was looking forward to this info. So you had obliged my request since that is exactly the info I wanted. Sorry if we were not on the same page. Just wanted to thank you for posting the info, that is all. :)

It just gives me needless anxieties, really.

My team (thus far)‘s last year’s points total is quite a way below the average. :-|

by civetta on Feb 10, 2010 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

Not that it will make you feel better but

right now my team is well below the 10th place team in points too. But that’s part of the strategy-do you take riders who did well last year or go for some of the guys who had a bad year and so scored poorly? Right now I have Ballan on my team and he alone knows down my point total for last year by several hundred.

Mine has been wandering back and forth between the 6000s and 7000s.

I think it’s at 7300-ish right now…not counting the additional 1155 they would have earned if the new races had been scored last year…

Yeah, I know. If I ever want to kick ass in VDS, I probably have to start picking guys I don’t particularly like. Or even the occasional Spaniard.

Right there with ya

The high end restrictions are certainly forcing me to do more research than I expected I would do. I’ve even found some Spaniards to add – though they are ones ones that few people not called Albertina would recognize. Hopefully I’ll have the winners of some Sping Classics, Worlds, and maybe a couple points jerseys along the way.

Here is a reminder with Some Frinking added for good measure.

From this thread

I’m pretty confident I can pull this together

Once I get the format of the box finalized, it will be a lot of copying and pasting.

I just need to know what info we want to include in each race block (i.e. scoring category) and the final list of races. I can put together a more thorough mock-up this weekend

Unfortunately, does not appear that there is a ‘crayon’ tool to use…
