A big gnarly bunch sprint on narrow, twisting streets at the end of a long stage of a grand tour, where the doodsmak potential quotient is high is one of those things that makes me think cyclists are nuts. Big bunch sprints are sphincter tightening, no doubt, but no matter how gnarly, or twisty, or slippery a finish gets, it cannot hold a candle to big wave surfing. RIght now, streaming live, is the infamous Mavericks Surf Contest near Half Moon Bay in California. If you have a few minutes, tune in and be amazed.
