Tour de Haut Var Stage 2 ....LIVE

Vuelta-live_mediumDraguignan - Montauroux features another uphill finish, slightly tougher than Saturday's stage 1 won by Ag2r's Rinaldo Nocentini. Nocentini grabbed a few seconds lead but is by no means assured of the  overall win on this tough course.

Stage 2 feed starts at 15:00 CET (09.00 AM US eastern, 01:00 AEST)

You may not see much of me later (yet again) as I’ll be out for a ride and then I have to go to a rehearsal (bah reherasals!). And do I watch this or the cross??!

These are the riders within 6 seconds of the lead

The finish is tougher than yesterday but most likely the overall leader should be among these. Hard to se Nocentini give up that much time, this is his kind of terrain. That said I seem to remember LL Sannchez losing a pretty solid lead last year.

missed the podium, bah

do we have another one for Algarve, Jens?

by rbjhan on Feb 21, 2010 4:42 AM EST reply actions

There doesn't appear to be coverage today for some reason.

so i figured people would post updates here. I’m off to work. If there is a feed someone could do a fanpost?

by Jens on Feb 21, 2010 4:48 AM EST up reply actions

probably not

even the coverage yesterday was quite disappointing I must say.

by rbjhan on Feb 21, 2010 4:50 AM EST up reply actions

It's the TT today so that could be the reason...

or it could be because of the storms that killed 32 people off the coast of Portugal on an island? Horrible.

Haut Var seems to be the race blessed by the weather-gods judging by the tweeps
@EuroHoody Horrendous conditions here in Algarve – looks like waves of rain blowing in off the Atlantic, so some riders will have better than others
@schleckfrank Ohh it s really nasty down here,Jeezzz wet wind rain what else could we ask for, but hey the good part on it is. Rain is good 4the garden (Ruta del Sol)
@antmccrossan We are at the 17k point just after the first king of the mountains. Its absolutely beautiful here. Suns out, slight chill in the air,no wind (reporting from Haut Var)

by Jens on Feb 21, 2010 6:03 AM EST reply actions

Re Algarve - this is google translate of the first couple of messages from the ticker (just started)

The wind is very strong, but the rain is present, under the showers.

In recognition of the route that we have seen that there are several areas very dangerous. With about 5 kilometers, the runners will encounter a dangerous turning downhill, with wet road. At about 3 kilometers from the end, there is a downhill road with high pedestrian crossings which follows a left turn dangerous. Moreover, in different sections of the route the rain swept rocks and mud onto the road and elsewhere there are pools that occupy the entire lane.

Weather update

from ticker (via google translate)

At the finish line the road is dry, the same is true in much of the route. Runners who start their evidence later if the weather does not change, will in this respect, benefit.

You're lucky anyway to be able to ride

We’re having a lousy winter here… not a lot of snow, but enough to prevent cycling (except with a low quality bike, which I don’t have). I tought this meant that so little snow would mean riding early in March…. but we’re expecting 30cm this week if the forecast is correct.

I don't know about that...

…I’d say that especially for girls into figure skating or gymnastics, it’s a very fine line. I had a student years ago who’d been in the upper reaches of the US figure skating program and told me stories about the meetings that they had for parents only basically explaining how to psychologically manipulate your children to keep them going. Truly creepy stuff. She apparently snuck into one, and hearing what she heard was part of her decision to walk away from it.

Until the mid-1980s it was usually accepted that ice hockey was derived from English field hockey and Indian lacrosse and was spread throughout Canada by British soldiers in the mid-1800s. Research then turned up a mention of a hockey very similar to hockey, played in the early 1800s in Nova Scotia by the Micmac Indians,
