Tour de Haut Var Stage 2 ....LIVE
Draguignan - Montauroux features another uphill finish, slightly tougher than Saturday's stage 1 won by Ag2r's Rinaldo Nocentini. Nocentini grabbed a few seconds lead but is by no means assured of the overall win on this tough course.
Stage 2 feed starts at 15:00 CET (09.00 AM US eastern, 01:00 AEST)

2nd again! Grrrrrrrrrr!
You may not see much of me later (yet again) as I’ll be out for a ride and then I have to go to a rehearsal (bah reherasals!). And do I watch this or the cross??!
Is that a question?

Ramblings of a madwoman, I reckon ;-)
I don’t think I’ll ever understand the mud fetish thing…

These are the riders within 6 seconds of the lead
The finish is tougher than yesterday but most likely the overall leader should be among these. Hard to se Nocentini give up that much time, this is his kind of terrain. That said I seem to remember LL Sannchez losing a pretty solid lead last year.

There doesn't appear to be coverage today for some reason.
so i figured people would post updates here. I’m off to work. If there is a feed someone could do a fanpost?
It's the TT today so that could be the reason...
or it could be because of the storms that killed 32 people off the coast of Portugal on an island? Horrible.

There is coverage at 2330h on eurosport here
Not sure if it’s live or yesterdays??

Haut Var seems to be the race blessed by the weather-gods judging by the tweeps
@EuroHoody Horrendous conditions here in Algarve – looks like waves of rain blowing in off the Atlantic, so some riders will have better than others
@schleckfrank Ohh it s really nasty down here,Jeezzz wet wind rain what else could we ask for, but hey the good part on it is. Rain is good 4the garden (Ruta del Sol)
@antmccrossan We are at the 17k point just after the first king of the mountains. Its absolutely beautiful here. Suns out, slight chill in the air,no wind (reporting from Haut Var)
Re Algarve - this is google translate of the first couple of messages from the ticker (just started)
The wind is very strong, but the rain is present, under the showers.
In recognition of the route that we have seen that there are several areas very dangerous. With about 5 kilometers, the runners will encounter a dangerous turning downhill, with wet road. At about 3 kilometers from the end, there is a downhill road with high pedestrian crossings which follows a left turn dangerous. Moreover, in different sections of the route the rain swept rocks and mud onto the road and elsewhere there are pools that occupy the entire lane.
Latest from Algarve
13h35: O belga Sebastien Rosseler (RadioShack) terá o melhor tempo com 21m48s. No entanto, fomos informados de que alguns tempos estão errados, devido a um problema informático. Aguardamos confirmação dos resultados.

2º Andrey Amador (Caisse D’Epargne), 22m47s
3º Nelson Oliveira (Xacobeo Galicia), 22m54s
with just over a half of the field finished
Millar known to have fallen, but finished
Weather update

At the finish line the road is dry, the same is true in much of the route. Runners who start their evidence later if the weather does not change, will in this respect, benefit.

2. Mario Costa (Barbot-Siper) a 41
3. Craig Lewis (Columbia) a 43

Andalucia
Biciciclismo has a ticker. 4 escapees: Rosendo (Andalucía-CajaSur), Beuret (Carmiooro), Egoitz García (Caja Rural) y Rosetto (Vacansoleil) got up to a max of about 8 minutes, but are being brought back by Milram, Columbia, and Sky. At km 78 (of 159.2), gap was at 4:25.

Meanwhile at Andalucia

Hello everyone. I'm actually here.
I bailed on the long ride today because I’m sick to death of getting wet and cold. I did an hour on the turbo instead and here I am! But I will be darting between this and the cross. And I have to go out in an hour and forty minutes…grrr.
Good morning!
Even if you will insist it’s afternoon. Me, I’m barely finishing my first cup of coffee.
It's fun to beat Cancellara--Edvald Boasson Hagen
You're lucky anyway to be able to ride
We’re having a lousy winter here… not a lot of snow, but enough to prevent cycling (except with a low quality bike, which I don’t have). I tought this meant that so little snow would mean riding early in March…. but we’re expecting 30cm this week if the forecast is correct.
Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill (F. Coppi)
France 3 has some sort of intro on.
But it’s just a loop that keeps replaying. Will try another from CF…
It's fun to beat Cancellara--Edvald Boasson Hagen
That's what I have too.
I hope it starts as I’ve managed to find a page where I can watch the cross on the same screen!
Yeah, just saw that at cyclingfans.
Oh, well. Hope it works at half past.
It's fun to beat Cancellara--Edvald Boasson Hagen
Well, if they're going to strip down...
What was the link again?
It's fun to beat Cancellara--Edvald Boasson Hagen
Well, if they were all mudfests, we probably wouldn't appreciate it so much.

All now started at Algarve – Rosseler still leading – rabon now second
(14h30: Segundo melhor tempo para Frantisek Rabon (HTC-Columbia): 21m55s. Sebastien Rosseler (RadioShack) continua com o melhor tempo: 21m48s.)
Andalucia – Breakaway gap down to 1.40 and looking doomed with 30km to go
adding a late wetaher update (via google) for algarve
After a few hours of sun, the clouds fill the sky and rain is expected as the top-ranked programs are on the road. It will be an added danger, especially as the track is quite technical.

"The only pain I got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is." Edvald Boasson Hagen
Seriously?
She was a heart throb in my early adolescence. Let’s see…
Innsbruck in 76 she won three speed skating medals (one of each) then later that year won the world sprint cycling championship. Then she retired, got married and came out of retirement in think in 8p and won a couple more sprint cycling championships. She;s in the US Cycling hall of fame and every speed skating hall of fame there is.
Sheila Young's 18-yr old daughter, Elli, is a member of the US speedskating team
this year. She raced the 500 meter race. Link to SI article here.

Well.. Not creepy..
Frustrating..
"Here the high school level of immaturity will be left to hottitude columns and people like myself." Der Phil. H
Well the US was overtaken by China in the summer games
and it will stay that way for an extremely long time.
March 14, 2010: The great one returns!
Well.. With a billion people in China.. The competition isn't really fair..
India has to go big.. In 30 years..
"Here the high school level of immaturity will be left to hottitude columns and people like myself." Der Phil. H
It's also the philosophy
in China they select their athletes at a very young age and put them in programs right away, they really don’t have much of a choice. Not that it’s right but it will keep them producing top athletes for decades to come. Of course they have a huge pool to select from.
March 14, 2010: The great one returns!
:) I like to think it's different in America..
But apart from the choice, and even that, no..
"Here the high school level of immaturity will be left to hottitude columns and people like myself." Der Phil. H
Well there are some parents who will force their kids into a sport
but it’s quite different. A federation can’t just pluck someone out and put them in their program.
March 14, 2010: The great one returns!
Ok.. The truth is in the middle..
But you can’t win an Olympic medal if you don’t really want that
"Here the high school level of immaturity will be left to hottitude columns and people like myself." Der Phil. H
I don't know about that...
…I’d say that especially for girls into figure skating or gymnastics, it’s a very fine line. I had a student years ago who’d been in the upper reaches of the US figure skating program and told me stories about the meetings that they had for parents only basically explaining how to psychologically manipulate your children to keep them going. Truly creepy stuff. She apparently snuck into one, and hearing what she heard was part of her decision to walk away from it.
btw, that wasn't a gender thing...
…but a reference to the age when you reach top level international competition in these sports.
Just listen to some of the former East German athletes
a lot of them had great results with very little “want” included.
exactly.
my point is, this goes on right here in the USA, and it’s quite self conscious on the part of the federations in question.
Oh sure
but those athletes are already in their federations at that time. Also I did mention parents and there are many who go to scary extremes to get their children to become the best for their own self-esteem.

All skaters ride bikes in summer. Most don’t race for fear of injury. Most skaters that reach some level of success in cycling are (East-German or Canadian) women.

Until the mid-1980s it was usually accepted that ice hockey was derived from English field hockey and Indian lacrosse and was spread throughout Canada by British soldiers in the mid-1800s. Research then turned up a mention of a hockey very similar to hockey, played in the early 1800s in Nova Scotia by the Micmac Indians,
