Awesome how Sporza is going over Nuyens nightmare with him

…so how did it feel to ride 5k on a flat and get no help that whole time? Wanna see pictures? We can show you some in case you forgot.

Everyone has an opinion.

Perhaps you could ask the 128 people who bought him.

by ursula on Feb 27, 2010 11:37 AM EST up reply actions

Hey, I damn near bought him myself..

I retract the clearly part. Just my opinion. Hopefully he will prove me wrong, and earn a number of VDS points that befits his price tag.

by Holdenmate on Feb 27, 2010 11:42 AM EST up reply actions

Well he earned 200 points today

I would say that he’s a good buy if he makes 1200. So he’s a sixth of the way there. Much better than say, EBH or Boonen or most everyone else at the moment. Of course that shows making assessments based on one race is perhaps premature.

by ursula on Feb 27, 2010 11:48 AM EST up reply actions

Who earned 200 points today? HH?

Well, we were discussing the price of EBH. Not HH. IMHO EBH, at 24 points, is overpriced. HH, at 18?, is possibly not. I agree that one should not make assessments based on one race..

by Holdenmate on Feb 27, 2010 12:01 PM EST up reply actions

OOOHHHHH

EBH snagged 120 points today. Also a fine way to open his account. I see no reason why from this race he won’t score the 1600+ points that would make him a good buy.

by ursula on Feb 27, 2010 12:03 PM EST up reply actions

As u so wisely stated: One should not make assessments based on one race.. ;)

Last year he made 1180 or so points. It IS likely that he will do better this year. My reservations stems from the fact that he has yet to display an ability to persevere for 250+ kms in the classics. I think it may be one year early for that. Hopefully, I’m wrong. This is coming from a EBH fan. Do u have him on your team, ursula?

by Holdenmate on Feb 27, 2010 12:08 PM EST up reply actions

Anyway, determining which riders are overpriced and who are not..

..is basically the point of the game. I was in no way trying to criticize the people responsible for creating this magnificent game.

Yes, but it makes the cycling season interesting if you have good guys and bad guys.

Garmin, for example, were good guys, until they unmasked themselves and crushed big George’s yellow jersey chance. Then they were the bad guys for a while. But now that they’ve been done wrong by Sky, they are back to being the good guys…

by liteberer on Feb 27, 2010 11:51 AM EST up reply actions

were the bad guys until everyone forgot that this team is still the Telekom team of Ullrich, Vino, Aldag, and Zabel.

We all have our favorite forms of tedium

I, for one, can’t WAIT until I see how Lefevre plans on dominating the Ronde and Paris-Roubaix this year. Send Devolder on a break w/ Boonen in the chase? Team-time-trial across Northern France? Call the winner from the car? Boonen in a group sprint? Boonen wearing out the other favorites and winning solo?

So many ways for Quickstep to dominate. None seem tedious to me, but many think Lefevre is the devil.

Why is spending huge sums of money on a rider who will never win a GT a reason for cycling fans to hate the team?

In my mind, it is just a bad investment. My impression is that team Sky will be a very competitive team. My impression is that team Sky is taking a firm stance against doping. That the other teams dislike team Sky I can understand.

Racing has been good for a long time. The only thing that has brought more coverage has been an American rider/team dominating in July.

GLOAT!

Oh, let me have it—this may be the only time my VDS team is Top 10 in the standings!!!!!! all season.

Not that it makes up for missing the end of the race, but it does help.

It just seems sort of right that GHH starts the season with a 2nd.

I have two follow-up question

how impressed were you with the swedish xc skiing team and how close did you come to applying for swedish citizenship when they won the men’s 4×10km relay?

by Jens on Feb 27, 2010 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

I didn't go to the 4x10 xc

but I went to two races where Norway won and the Swedes finished 4th….
