Nys was interviewed before the start

said he had a bad cold, sounded rather like it too. He rode only 30 minutes yesterday and didn’t give much for his chances.

Thing is, the GVA points system

awards a fast start with 3-2-1 points available at the start of the third lap. And there is only point difference per placing on the line. So it pays for (possibly ill) Nys to go at it for two laps and follow wheels, maybe even drop a few places, after that.

Now that it looks like Nys is having not such a subpar day, he might do well to let Stybar hang on a little more and place between him and Albert, to maximise the point difference on the line.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
