Live Chat with Ted King!

Welcome to our live chat with Ted King!

Come on in, pull up a chair, make yourselves at home. There's coffee in the back and snacks, unless Frinking ate them all. Frinking? Did you eat all the snacks?

King will be here for an hour and he'll try to answer as many questions as possible. Chris and I will moderate, as necessary, but this is your chance to ask about bike racing and other important things like style and food. Please try to pace your questions, so we don't have a total traffic jam. If there are a couple questions already up on the thread, wait a bit before adding yours. If we run short on time, and Ted doesn't get to your question, you can always find him @iamtedking.

If this is your very first visit to the Cafe, welcome! If you'd like to join the convo, head over to the SBN sign-up page and get yourself a username. You will need a working email address to sign on. We promise not to heckle you over email, or sell your address to Nigerian bankers. We're nice that way.

Thanks for coming and enjoy the fun!

About technology – specifically the interwebs.

OK, a cycling question then

This is from Drew, who couldn’t be here. He also asked me to say “Go Sox” but I rejected such shameless sucking up.

When approaching a peak period, what does your weekly training block look like? Hours, time at threshold, types of intervals?

Welcome, youaretedking.

When Cervelo Test Team started, they talked about a team for product development and testing. Besides the King of Style inspired white Cervelo kit, what, if anything have you provided input/feedback on? How does that work exactly? "Hey Ted, what do you think of _______."

I work with several engineers (in a different industry) and I’ve found they don’t give a flip of what us deckplate level guys think.

Boredom and the professional peloton

Ted,

First off, thanks for doing this. Second, as someone who sits behind my computer all day, there are days when nothing is going on, I’m bored out of my mind and can’t wait until the end of the day. Are there days like that in some races. Say a straightforward day in a Grand Tour sprint stage. Do you ever get bored out of your mind knowing that you’ll be riding for five straight hours and then it will get mildly interesting for the last 20 minutes?

Do you ever wish you were sitting behind a desk, like I wish i was racing my bike?

by PopUp Rolen on Feb 9, 2010 12:02 PM EST reply actions

All hail King of Style!

Questions three:

What type of bikes (Big Wheelers count) did you have in your childhood?

Because your nickname is Ted did people buy and/or still buy you Teddy Bears often?

Do you know why there are so few French cyclists on Twitter?

Wigglypuff Cav Crunch, Breakfast of Madison Champions!

by Josenka on Feb 9, 2010 12:03 PM EST reply actions

Never had any big wheels. My first memorable bike was a hardtail mountain bike in 4th grade. I was a casual cyclist as a kid – mostly riding around to school which was only a mile away. I didn’t start racing until college.

Eating/surfing/chatting

Sorry. This is going to be slightly overwhelming with all the questions. Anyway, I made some sort of stew most of the day. It’s cold and damp here in Girona today so i thought a stew was in order. Tons of veggies and a bit of beef.

behind the scenes of Cervèlo

I don’t know if you are aware of the film Team Sky made when in Australia, but it does have a shower scene featuring Davide Vigano. Is there a possibility that you guys could make a film like that too, with Haussler in the shower maybe? ;)

by dottelott on Feb 9, 2010 12:06 PM EST reply actions

Shower scene

Hi Ted, I always love reading your blogs

Coming from a place with a climate (and probably a bike culture or lack thereof) similar to New England, I wonder what got you into racing in the first place and at what point you thought “I can really do this as a job”?

World Championships

Why do most of the elite American riders often sit out the World Championships, when other nations bring an A+ team every year?

USA Cycling is going to change that in the next few years. The courses suit Americans – namely Tyler – and the US will start to put up a good fight to get him the rainbow stripes.

Thank you.

I’ve beaten some guys with much better bike than me, especially on the hard races like uphill TT’s. They say they’re very useful in flat races. I’ll kick their ass when the season start :D

hello Ted

do you ride with Joao Correia for quite some time. What do you think of the role he has in the team? In Portugal there are many supporters suspicious of their ability to be a team this size? I think is more than a rider…

do you ever call out teammates/training partners for bad style when riding?
