Tirreno-Adriatico Stage 1 ........... LIVE

Vuelta-live_medium

The italian part of today's two-course meal is the opening stage in the poetically named il Due Mari, the race of the two seas. Not so poetic are the winter conditions that face the riders on their ride from Livorno to an almost inevitable sprint in Rosignano Solvay.

SPOILER ALERT: We have separate threads for Paris-Nice and Tirreno. Some people will be watching tapedelayed coverage so let's avoid posting spoilers in the respective threads, mkay?

Live video from 15:00 CET (09:00AM US eastern, 01:00 AEST)

This Sky bashing is absolutely ridiculous.

It seems that every time there isn’t a group sprint for the win the “blame” belongs to Team Sky. Get over it, guys.

?? The last Sky chaser was able to catch the break.

He had obviously spent a lot of energy to manage this. So, he figured job well done, and let off. And then NORWEGIAN THOR HUSHOVD, THE THUNDER GOD, on his wheel, did absolutely NOTHING, sat up waiting forever, and lost the race for the peleton. I wondered what Team Sky had to say about the sprint
The quartet appeared to have been caught on the final corner but confusion reigned in the chase pack as Paolini broke for the line.

Cycling Weekly has these quotes

“It was too difficult today,” Boasson Hagen said, covered in grime, "but the team did a good job.

“Chris [Sutton] closed up the gap with one kilometre to go,” said sports director Scott Sunderland. “The other guys [teams] behind did not come through to work.”

“We will take it day by day with either Edvald or Chris. You will never have a real sprinters’ day here, besides today and the last day. For tomorrow? Edvald.”
