Mende, Baby!

Time for some GC shakeup as the race to the sun returns to Mende for the steep (3 km avg. 10%)  finishing climb named Croix Neuve -Montée Laurent Jalabert. Alberto Contador paved the way for his 2007 P-N win here. Is anyone willing to bet that he won't do the same today?

A tougher job than it sounds

I have actually been brought to tears watching someone vainly struggle before being
dropped.
I once heard a man describe seeing a hippo (it
might have been an antelope) caught in the current above Victoria falls. It fought for four hours before succumbing to exhaustion and being swept
into the torrent.

that I had reserved judgement on some of the kits until I could see them on the road.

I dislike the Radio Shack kit. Very difficult to see in the peloton and just ugly colors.

15:02 - Sanquer: "A great showdown in sight"

Astana team manager Yvon Sanquet told www.letour.fr Alberto Contador was ready for one the key moments in this Paris-Nice: "He’s very focused on his goal. The aim is to get to the foot of the hill in the best conditions before the final showdown. It’s a short but hard climb and a perfect terrain for a great sporting battle. It’s obviously a turning point of the race. There are other riders to watch like Jens Voigt, who is always in great shape early in the season, and the two Liquigas riders, especially Peter Sagan, who is the race sensation. But Caisse d’Epargne cannot be counted out either."

15:05 - Jurdie: "Two cards to play for AG2R"

AG2R team director Julien Jurdie said his team had two cards to play in this stage, Julien Loubet, currently in the leading group, or Nicolas Roche if the peloton made it back on the break: "Julien Loubet is a good climber and he could play his own card if the break should go ahead but if it didn’t, there is also a great team to help Nicolas Roche in the finale. We told Nicolas not to try to follow Alberto Contador in the last climb, not to fire all his bullets to soon. Contador’s acceleration is deadly and it’s useless trying to follow him only to crack a few hundred metres later. But Nicolas has the means to do a great climb," he told France Television.

"Ants don’t worry, they operate like a fantastic team, they accept obstacles and deal with them in a positive manner, they don’t complain and remain positive. An ant doesn’t work on emotion, is proactive and always chooses the ant role."

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
