Paris-Nice Stage 6 ............. LIVE
Time for the big boys to show their cards as the race hits the notoriously hard (for March) Col de Vence. It's a good bet the GC will get a bit of a shakeup today and the question is if the Caisse d'Epargne double threat of LL Sanchez and Valverde can unsettle Alberto Contador? Does he still have a lot to learn?

Bonjour messieurs, dames
Planning on a little bicycle trip myself, recording & watching later. Au revoir!
I'm looking forward to hopefully watching tonight..
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"
Jens! Voigt, Crit Intl Interview, 2009
yeah from midnight i think..
I’ve been sick and have had to record the last 3 nights… feeling a littl better, but not sure i’ll stay up all night, might set alarm for last bit!

only getting about half hour of video today…then off to the football..saturdays are hard to prioritise

yes indeed
my girlfriend’s gone home for mothers day, so i’m off to watch watford destroy peterborough…hopefully!

it's not lovely, it's cruel, hard cruel
newcastle are running away with it, obvz. then west brom are second…bit of a dogfight for playoff spots.

yeah that's right
it’s good in that it gives a lot of teams something to play for…like we’re 19th at the mo, but we’re only actually 11 points off 6th, which is not as big a gap as the prem…you can go on a run and get somewhere. but i agree, it would suck for the champions league spots.

that is not entirely up to the league I hope.
surely UEFA also has a say in it? not that I have much faith in Monsieur Platini…
the league voted against it anyways, so it's all good
but i think they have most of the say. i believe holland used to have a playoff system…greece still does…i might be wrong though. all it does is further dilute a tournament that’s called the CHAMPIONS league and stuffed with a bunch of clubs who finished 4th! bah.

it's all about money
I remember when UEFA cup and the Cup Winners Cup actually meant something….
now the brand new Europa league is already a big fail. bah indeed.

and pool's in it.....
meh.
now that RM wants to get rid of Pellegrini, maybe they can take Rafa? i know i know, wishful thinking.
could happen
he did play for them, coach their youth team, etc etc…and real madrid can afford to pay off his contract! pool would have sacked him by now, if they could only afford it.

Florentino Perez is all about glamour
somehow I don’t think Rafa fits the bill!
why he fired del Bosque is beyond me…
why perez does anything he does
is beyond me….odious man!

I will never nderstand that man
He kind of hearts Spain, though- he does well there, n’est-ce pas?
But still: so much talent, such little ambition. He seeks to sneak his way onto the top
step, unnoticed. Evans was the same until last year. It is not the way of a champion. It is not even the way of a Sagan.

No
He’s tough. He lacks courage. He won’t risk losing so he won’t give himself the chance to win. It’s the difference between him and Menchov.
by Runitout on Mar 13, 2010 7:43 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
That's a tough statement... I love it I think, in regards to Menchov
and I must admit I’ve never really stopped to think about Levi…
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
not the only difference...
snark

So what are the other differences?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
no
i meant that menchov is russian and levi is american, duh

Levi's bald, Menchov isn't, he's short, Menchov isn't
… that sort of thing?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
So Menchov has courage because he's Russian...
or Levi doesn’t because he’s American?

neither
sarcasm doesn’t come across well over the internet, apologies ;)

cunego going for GC has been particularly fruitful over the years…but i might have to look for a replacement source, perhaps vino will do the trick..

I think it might not be courage but selfconfidence
All those seasons on Rabo and Gerolsteiner when he was never able to avoid the “jour sans” in the GT’s have him hesitating to go all in and trust himself. That’s my pseudo-psychoanalysis anyway.
I'm inclined to agree...

if he has any hopes of doing something come July
joining Retirement Shack does not seem to be the best idea.
He knows his time is past. I think it's a very wise move
and at least he doesn’t have to be the Great White Hope wf Americans with Armstrong on the team.

I read on CN that when Rein Taaramae was in that break yestaerday
his break companions asked him to leave because he was to high in the GC. He asked his DS, and sat up. I had thought he was after the mountains points, or just knew they were going to be caught.
His DS said that he was also a bit stupid for going to the break in the first place after nobody jumped with him

just finished riding the final loop
up and down the col de vence. Beautiful weather – a bit cold up high – but i didn’t have a windbreak – and still, no huge deal. God that descent is a blast! That was fun. Goes on forever – not too tecnical. They are going to just bomb that thing. Most of it you pedal it. Although at the end right before Tourette it is uphill again – nothing very steep but more than a false flat – 4-6%? Goes on for a good ways like that.
Was perfect this morning but on the way back started running into some pretty good winds. But all in all i think very good conditions. Don’t think weather will have anything to do with how they ride today.
Sweet! also... not jealous!

how is the corporation in the break ? are they sharing the workload? there are a few big engines on that move, they can do some big damage if left unattended.
The gap is hovering around 1:20-30 and it seems like everybody is rotating for the most part
Plus even with all the engines they have in there, they still have 2 1/4 about
