MSR: VDS Smackdown! Can You Klopt This?

I'm still chuckling over the very idea of Chris klopting me at Milan Sanremo.  I don't know who he has exactly but I am supremely confident that my front line of the Wenatchee Wonder, Oscarito!, Hooter, and Ginanni with my backups of Boomer, Roelandts, Van Summeren, Maaskant, and Uran will carry the day for me.

What? You say you got a better team? Yeah, right. Okay let's see your team and see if you can do better!

[Chris here] I just wanted to add one more VDS note: there are four teams with Jens Keukeleire. Bow down to them.

The big boys on The Txapela Wearing etc etc are Freire and Gilbert.

Then there’s Koldo for a minor placing, backed by Uran, Nibali, Pellizotti and Barredo. You never know….

Better than the bunch of duds I’ve got on the eds’ league, most of whom will probably see the finish in San Remo on the telly in the cafe at the top of the Poggio:

Ed's League?

I’ve got Gilbert, so I’m guaranteed a too-early doomed breakaway effort and an out-of-the-points finish. I also have several very junior Italian sprinters who probably won’t see the start, much less the finish. Alas.

Have we started scoring the Eds' League yet?

If not, my man Petacchi will probably win. I had Scarponi at T-A, so my team strategy is clean up in all the non-scoring races, then rest on my “laurels” once the scoring actually begins.

Supposedly yes we are scoring

But I don’t even remember all of the riders that I have. I do have Breschel, who I have no confidence in for MSR, and Roelandts. Meh.

Team Bah's one great shining hope is Boonen.

I don’t like to get my hopes up though. As soon I say he looks good to win it, Cav will motor over the Poggio, rip his braces off with an evil laugh, tell everyone to enjoy sucking on his dust and repeat convincingly. Or something. Something unexpected will happen, is all I’m saying.

This year

we went alphabetically by the last letter in the first name, which I quickly declared the rule before I had time to think about the last letter in anyone’s name.

Next year we will have to come up with something else.

Big Aloha for MSR:

2 Uran – Riding for JJ?
2 Gatto – The discount viscount.
22 Boonen – It’s too much to hope for.
12 Frieire – Just as likely to DNF as podium.
6 Boom – Well, there will be at least 6-8 randoms in the top 15..
16 Armstrong – Classic Shack co-leader with Rosseler.

My question: why is Pays d’Loire out of VDS while Groene Hart is in? The field in France is light years better with 11 Tour-possible teams and some genuinely good riders. Also, I want points from Hoogerland and Duque somehow.
