I am Gav, Gav I am. Or, Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

I am Gav
Gav I am.

I ride my bike in the sun
I ride my bike because it's fun
I do not ride it by the ton
I do not ride it to make a pun

I ride my bike to stay sane
I like to ride it down the lane
In the rain, my bike I do not like
When it falls down, I give a yike!

Dr. Suess, I am not
Because with rhymes, I suck a lot.

I am Gav
Gav I am.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

A toast

To cheer a birthday with glee
I would raise a glass heavy
with beer from Belgium land
but, oh, and oh, which brand?

A trappist, like a nice Westmalle?
Chimay, Rochefort, Achel, Orval?
Or maybe a nice heavy bruin from Grottenbier
unless a dubbel or dubbel-dubbel or trippel-dubbel is near.

So many choices, too many for me.
So I’ll just say happy birthday to thee!

Middle of day, still working

At this time I can neither toast your fine literary achievement
nor go outside and ride in the long-missed warm sunshine.
at least I can visit the Cafe where I’m well understood!

… no this is not a poem. Cheers to the good Dr.!!

I am Will
Will I Am

I ride my bike up a hill,
I ride my bike without much skill

I do not like it on a plain,
I do not like it in the rain,
I would not, could not, in the mud,
A cross bike falling makes a thud,

Not through puddles,
Not drafting Cuddles,
Not here or there or down in Oz,
Not with Barbie, just because,

Would you ride with a cat,
Would you climb with a big red hat,

Will I am
I am Will
With a big red Fez
Struggling up Alpe d’Huez

One bike, two bike, red bike, blue bike...

My bike does not have a pedal
Even though it’s made of metal
To go faster I don’t use gumption
But a heady brew of gas combustion

Faster, faster, through a chicane
Competitors tears fall like rain
With my knee down on the black
Dragging fast around the track

The chain is whirring like McEwen’s
But track day racing, is what I’m doin’
With my Triumph, doing miles
In my helmet, only smiles

On the straights I pull the ton
and watch the needle run the gun
See the speed go triple digit
Now is not the time to fidget

Grit your teeth and twist your wrist
Make sure your brake point isn’t missed
Slide your ass end through the apex
Exhaust gas swirling in the vortex

No time to think ’bout what I did
Race back to the starting grid
Engine screaming as I pass one fifty
Hoping I can pull 160

The start and finish a blur beneath
The power band now finds release
I shift into the top end gear
Machine and man will show no fear

Pass some idiot on the inside
Crush that Ducati’s puffed up pride
Squeeze Suzuki off his line
My Triumph’s time has come to shine

Polished black on shining chrome
I make the track my second home
Hoping I won’t be too bitter
If I crash into the kitty litter

Wishing I could ride like Rossi
Knowing I can’t be too bossy.
It’s just a track day for the masses
So we shouldn’t ride like asses

I miss Paolo Bettini. That is all.

Bah

Read Across America Day
aka Dr. Seuss’s Birthday
call it what you will
around here it’s no thrill

With great desire indeed
they want the exulted boss to read
to all the kids- Sam I Am
or maybe even Green Eggs & Ham

Countless schools around the state
with ample eagerness await
correspondence from my trusty printer
pronouncing they are the winner!

do you get me so far?
just make sure he doesn’t bring his cigar

Sometimes I Seuss

Sometimes I Seuss
While riding fast and loose
In pouring rain
That masks the rattling of my chain

Across the bridge as lightning strikes
I race the trains
And miss the other bikes

On a dark and stormy night
I can take an off-camber downhill corner and stay upright
Even when the boom of the back tyre exploding gives me a fright

I change the tube and limp on home
Telling myself that I might be slow
But I HTFUed and rode

Nearing the final turn
I catch myself wondering if I’ll learn
What it’s like to ride this commuter’s trail
In Sydney’s famous hail

You can’t go wrong with a little lightning. Unless you’re riding a steel bike on a high ridgeline. Anyway….

Honestly...

The first night I rode through the city in a storm was just gorgeous. Watching the lightning as I crossed the bridge and so on. It was great.
