Ronde van het Groene Hart .......LIVE

Vuelta-live_medium

In the name of Dutch Hegemony I hereby declare this Livethread on the Eneco Ronde van het Groene Hart open.

This 207 km race of the Groene Hart region is littered with smallish climbs but history suggest it's one for the sprinters in the end. I'm counting on our dutch contingent to give a more detailed insight into this popular (VDS!) race.

You have to pace yourself... about 2.30 I think..

by that stage it’s hard to keep it all straight. it was a really exciting end though.

Most exciting MSR ever!

Puzzling who was in peloton 1 and 2.. Futile(?) attacks and a nice winner.. I was overjoyed

Which version was more exciting..

I have only see like 5 editions.. Which were all boring.. Only the last 20 or sometimes 500m were worth seeing

I liked yesterday, because even though it was a sprint finish

there was no certainty about who would win..

2008 was more exciting

But anyway, “ever” is ridiculous if you only have 5 to choose from. 1992 was mentioned earlier this week, and I’m sure that there have been earlier editions that can compete.

Lopex

Last year I wrote:

Today will see the third edition of the Eneco Ronde van het Groene Hart (Round of the Green Heart). This race wants to show the world how beautiful Holland’s so-called green heart is. This is the more or less rural/agricultural area right in between the ring of cities that form the Randstad. Since this race passes right through my home town I think it deserves some PdC love, even though it’s not a VDS race.

Guess what. This year it is a VDS race. Cat 6 but it will only go up from now on of course.

Start will be 11.40 AM local time with a ticker starting right away. Live feed will be available on the website from 15.00 to 17.00 hours. Hopefully not geo-restricted. More about the race on the flip. Start list.

Describing the profile is easy. It’s 207 km with a parcours that is as flat as zombie Garin’s heart rate. Still the wind and length usually make it a war of attrition anyway. Last year more than half the peloton stepped out in the feed zone. The riders came over the finish in small groups with big time differences. A group of 7 (including 2 Milrami and 3 Vacansolista) battled for victory in the end. Geert Omloop surprised Graeme Brown (who had worked hard countering attacks in the final part of the race) and won the race. Third was Aart Vierhouten.

If it comes to a sprint the win will probably go to Omloop, Brown, Traksel, Wagner or van Hummel. Especially Skil will want to take revanche for the disaster at Nokere Koerse where they dominated a large part of the race only to see both sprinters go down in a crash 7 km from the line. But there are quite a few names on the list who could go for a win in another way. Mollema, Eeckhout, Roulston, Guldhammer or Westra would be suspects in this category. But maybe Footon-Servetto or Xacobeo Galicia can surprise us.

Nice is only about an hour's drive from San Remo

After lunch “The woman” wanted to get out somewhere – weather wasn’t great so i said “How ’bout San Remo?” Off we went. Didn’t know really where the race finished up and didn’t know when they’d arrive. Got to town, found the race finish easily, drove around forever and finally found a place to park. All in plenty of time it turns out. Stopped in a café/bar for a bit to watch on tv, then watched on the big screen up til the descent of the poggio, then ran back a 100 meters or so to find a place by the rails where we could try to see. Fortunately i’m taller than the average italian. Was exciting with the announcer calling it out. Then here they come and swoosh – i did manage to see Boonen standing and trying to launch his sprint. You see like 2 seconds of racing – but it is fun somehow.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
