Riders speaking up

You said above that you’d like to hear more guys from the top of the peloton speak up on rider safety issues. Why do you think they don’t? Would a real riders union help, in your opinion?

by Sui Juris on Mar 24, 2010 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Yep

And the competitiveness of getting on top teams, the lack of security from contract to contract. There’s a long line of guys for each slot.

It would be good to see that change – maybe more stable sponsorship would help.

How did you enjoy your time on the US Nat'l Team?

I remember seeing you guys at Tour de Georgia. Did you feel like you got some serious development work in there?

Maybe she used to make him wait for his ride home while she participated in live chats.

Which reminds me…I really have to go.

Thanks so much, Brent!

Are you picking up

up any second language? Do the Swiss guys talk in that crazy Swiss German much?

by cyclingdiva on Mar 24, 2010 3:56 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

Ha!

That would be confusing.

by Jen See on Mar 24, 2010 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Dutch! You mean Dutch!

Flemish is just a dialect, bah. (Don’t tell that to a Fleming or you’ll have a heated argument on your hands). Kroon is Dutch.

by tedvdw on Mar 24, 2010 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Is what I'm sayin', yes!

but again, don’t mention that to Flemish people…

by tedvdw on Mar 24, 2010 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions

So NEVER

say that to Tommeke? Ooops I did say to the QS staff “my brother in-law said that Flemish is just sloppy Dutch”, they laughed and agreed.

by cyclingdiva on Mar 24, 2010 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Ah well,

I guess most are pretty relaxed about it. The official language of Flanders is called Dutch. There are some distinct differences between general (“northern”) Dutch, Belgian Dutch and Surinamese Dutch, though.

by tedvdw on Mar 24, 2010 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow. I had no idea that the Flemish for chipknip was proto map.

(It’s a very funny experience, reading the page of differences Google-translated into English.)

Oh that's funny!

Probably because the French don’t understand Dutch! The Belgian’s seem to be more bilingual.
