Friday Entertainment

Juan Antonio Flecha descends the Cipressa with a helmet cam.

It sorta made me dizzy.

Happy Friday!

Gav, where are you finding these amazing vids?!

First the longboard, now this! Looks like you’re going through a downhill racer sorta phase… :-)

Ha!

This one came off the twit, same as the skaterz. And yes, going downhill fast seems to be the theme of the past two days!

Michael Barry uploaded this, and it’s on his blog too.

btw

This is the skate viddy nicknorco is talking about:

It just goes to show where my comforts are

I was thinking during the Flecha video that he must be taking it a bit easy cause of the camera and the traffic (makes sense) whereas that longboarding video freaks me right out. Two wheels good, four….teenie, tiny wheels….yikes.

by LawrenceS on Mar 26, 2010 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

No, you're not crazy

That skate viddy should freak you out. Bikes have brakes. Skates don’t. And if anything, the camera underestimates the gradients on that descent. Silly steep.

Thanks.

It’s always nice to watch a master of his/her craft in action. Reminds me of those crazed kayaker videos.

Yeah, I saw

this the day before MSR, and when they got to that part during MSR, I was all “hey, I know this road.”

/obvious observation is obvious.

by Sui Juris on Mar 26, 2010 3:01 PM EDT reply actions

Terribly.

If I know about something, and don’t see it anywhere else, I just presume that I missed it and that I’m the last one. Typical, really.

by Sui Juris on Mar 26, 2010 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I saw it somewhere too, but I thought it was here...

maybe somebody posted in in one of the pre-MSR threads?

I love the parts where you see his shadow on the road. And when he passes that car.

It was in the first live thread

But still, more is better!

As if.

I was sound asleep during the first thread.

So that is what it is like to know what you are doing

Judging from the helmet cam, he did not look at the scenery, the gears, various parts of the handle bars. He didn’t try to read the graffiti on the walls while riding. I could tell he was actually looking at where he wanted to go.

I just ‘paid attention’ vicariously through J.A. Flecha. Thanks Gavia!

by 4estru on Mar 26, 2010 5:57 PM EDT reply actions

Ha!

Yes, you do have to pay attention to descend fast. Sometimes I descend slow just to check out the scenery. Cuz if you go looking out in the distance over the edge of the road? You just might go there.

by Jen See on Mar 26, 2010 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, kinda like John Lee Augustyn

or Frank Schleck. Paying attention is not a natural thing for me at least. It takes work. Anyway, that longboard video is beautiful. Love it!

by 4estru on Mar 26, 2010 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

beautiful road

and nasty bit of work to climb it, too.

by Jen See on Mar 26, 2010 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Oddly enough the condition of the road was the first thing I noticed

Then I got lost in the video. You climbed that? Wow! awestruck

by 4estru on Mar 26, 2010 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions

They repaved it not too long ago

so it’s really nice now. It used to be a mess.

Yes, it’s common around these parts to climb that thing. If you’re feeling psycho, you do repeats. Lovely views, too.

What's going on

with the group of riders taking a leak together around :36 – :37? Is that how it’s done on group rides in Italia?

I kept craning my neck to look past the top of the frame.

Must be such a thing as looking too far ahead, and I must tend to do it (?).

by JFS_PGH on Mar 26, 2010 11:52 PM EDT reply actions

No

It’s a camera mount issue. Very very common. Which is why 95% of all Go Pro Hero videos suck.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
