Paris - Nice Prologue........LIVE

Vuelta-live_mediumThe classics riders started off the serious season last week with the Omloop Het Niuewsblad. Today the stageracers kick off their season for real with the 8 km prologue of Paris - Nice, The Race to the Sun. Temperatures in Montfort- l'Amaury, just outside Paris, are around freezing so riders should be well motivated to race to the Med in a hurry.

Do you think that's where Lou is? I'm missing half my brain.

Haaahahaha, yeahright

I’ve never worn a pair of skis in my life. (Whaaaat? Don’t all look so scandalised! I’ve only ever seen snow lying on the ground once…).

I haven’t been away. I’ve just been… not here, LOL. Been somewhat distracted within my own head. Unpleasant but probably long overdue… not done yet, by a long shot, but at least I’m starting to get some sleep happening now. I expect that I’ll be popping in a little more frequently now :-)

‘twill all be good. I’m seeing an old friend soon, and have resolved that I will allow myself to cry. Regardless of whether I feel that I’m likely to ever stop, LOL. Poor bugger doesn’t know what he’s in for… (actually, he probably does. But I’m absolutely terrified…)

Ooh loooook – Jens! did In Vino Veritas proud here, keeping the team out of the bottom 100! Good man. A portent of great things to come…

I'd say he's a very lucky bugger to have a friend like you.

There's nothing depressing about mountaineering books!

Sheesh! (Yeah, so folks die and stuff.. but not always. Geez!). Heh, the obsession actually started at the time of the cause of my discontent, nearly two years ago. Kept me bloody sane… looking forward to going to bed, to read the latest expedition account ;-)

but in the spirit of half full, I think that you could expand your repertoire beyond grim yet uplifting survival stories. Try Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey… awfully depressing opening chapter but it has a Frinky like character called Geoffrey who plays cricket. It’s gorgeous ;)

I never know how much to put in

Just sort of ‘cover the bottom with coffee and then add a bit’ is how I do it.

But I’ve heard the water ought not be boiling, but rather really hot.

Too hot and you burn the precious beans, and you don’t want that. Well, I don’t; if you like Starbucks then burnt coffee is probably what you’re after. De gustibus non est disputandum, as they say.

No meat and no coffee?

What reason do you even have to get up in the morning?

by Jens on Mar 7, 2010 8:26 AM EST up reply actions

You can make delicious drip coffee...

with a Melita filter or by improvising one—it’s better than any drip machine. We learned this camping in the Rocky Mountains.

Put plenty of very finely ground coffee in a paper filter and pour boiling water very slowly it, being sure to pour evenly. The slower you pour, the better the coffee, and the water has to be boiling.

When your brew is finished, the rich brown will appear reddish around the edges of the cup—that’s the litmus test, if you’ve got that, it’s going to be GOOD. Milk goes in afterwards.

This is handmade artisan-quality coffee! It’s too good for mass production, and only works for small quantities. But you can always make more.

The advantage over a French press is that the brew does not stay in contact with the grounds when it’s finished.

The key for me as a retailer is to make sure people are patient

and don’t plunge it right away 3-4-5.-8 mins doesn’t make much diff but if you don’t let the grounds swell you risk getting grounds floating in the coffee.
