Amstel Gold Race ............ LIVE
No volcanic ashcloud over the interwebs so you have no excuse not to watch the greatest race in Holland. Lots of little(and not so little) climbs, winding narrow roads and a desperate-to-win Rabobank team. Does it get better than that?
Live video at 14:15 CEST (08:15 AM US eastern, 22:15 AEST)

And else we get Martens, Nuyens as Hald-Dutchman
Will probably miss most of it due to work
My pick today: Filippo Pozzato, Dark (dark) horse: Benoit Vaugrenard
Dark? He was good in TA and rode top 10 couple last year n het drieluik.. So darkhorse it is..
Mine Horse is Martens!
And my top 12 over @ CF.com
1. GAVAZZI Francesco
2. GESINK Robert
3. GILBERT Philippe .
4. HOOGERLAND Johnny
5. IGLINSKIY Maxim
6. IVANOV Serguei
7. KROON Karsten
8. MARTENS Paul
9. NIBALI Vincenzo
10. NUYENS Nick
11. SCHLECK Andy
12. SCHLECK Frank
yo, peeps. so, will there be live race video at the official website? or just pre- and postrace?

Thankfully, Dutch air traffic control have grated helicopters permission to cover the race today, so we will have television pictures as normal.
okay, evidently i worded that wrong. the text blurb that comes up (after i disable my firewall) is something about the video not being available until monday, the 19th.
unless there was something wrong with the google translation.

Why thank you
It is a lovely morning. Going for a ride with a friend later, planning to wear shorts for the first time this year.
group away with 50 sec lead
Rafael Valls (Footon-Servetto) Staff Scheirlnckx (Omega Pharma Lotto), Peter Wrolich (Milram), Sebastien Delfosse (Crédit Agricole), Thierry Hupond (Skil-Shimano), Steven Van Vooren (Topsport Flanders), Arnoud Van Green (Vacansoleil)

He might not win it
But he’d made a damn good rider to have working for you..
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Hehe, sorry, couldn't resist
To be fair I think it probably is too punchy for him. He likes to climb at his own pace (doesn’t like constant changes in the speed on a climb) and prefers longer climbs where he can set his own tempo whereas this race is usually about the acceleration and the punchier riders. Still, you never know..
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Yeah I was thinking he lacked punch...
but then when you have Valverde on the same team. SO maybe next year he can have a shot.

Nope
It might be nice one year if instead of going all out early in the year he maybe held back a little (skipped things like Tour of Med or Circuit Cycliste etc) and gave it a real go in a GT. But then I’d miss seeing him at some of the smaller races and it might not pay off…
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
all the occupants? or just the drivers?
and, is this a particular issue with the vehicles?
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
Drivers, of course
Issue? I don’t understand. What, the police doesn’t do alcohol tests where you are?

"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
they do spot checks. i just wonder if there's a particular issue with the drivers of the team cars, vehicles.
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
Not that I know
Sometimes there are incidental checks, sometimes 100% checks (every car/driver gets pulled aside, a “trap”) and this seems to be one of the latter. Of course, it is also a high-visibility job this time, sort of a publicity stunt.

Not a great newspaper - ditto the Guardian these days
The last Guardian piece was Richard Moore (Sky’s cycling man also) being very very mischievous and probably printing his last quote from Cavendish in a long time.
that's why they've had two Cav pieces in two weeks?
the last one – pace andrewp was Anna Kessel’s . I’m not sure she knows much about cycling but it was interesting all the same
