Stage 3 is 23,4 km TT. We are now getting to the part of the season where we might actually start to get some real answers from the big guns in the timetrials so this should be good.

Happy Queensday!
One of the best days of my life was Queensday 2004. Me and my wife were in Amsterdam, the weather was amazing, and it was the best all-day party I’ve ever been to.

Walking around the flea market in the rain is not really nice. Felt very sorry for the people selling their stuff. Everything was getting soaking wet.

Anyone saw yesterday's Tour de Bretagne Cycliste results?
Interested in which team will get John Degenkolb
Have a look at his Palmares

and got 2 stages in Tour de Bretagne Cycliste this years.

Possibly the only problem is that people who have been lurking won't be able to contribute?
I think it’s a fun idea, but if one of the objectives is to get people to ‘de-lurk’ then we need a solution…

Best of the year for me has been 'Inglorious Basterds'...
The German actor whose name I can never remember was stunning… and as a registered wimp, I’m not even a Tarantino fan.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
LOL
I don’t really like Tarantino films either but I quite liked that film too. That German guy was great.
In the last few weeks I’ve seen:
Welcome. French film about a Kurdish Iraqi boy trying to get to England to be with his girlfriend. Quite poignant. I guess it’d be on art house release in Aus, can’t imagine they’d have it at Hoyts or Village.
Beneath Hill 60. Aussie film about miners being called in to assist with tunneling under the trenches on the Western Front in WW1. Has a nice understated and laconic Australian-ness to the dialogue, if a little bit sentimental or jingoistic at times, but still a cracking action film based on a true story.
Control. Ian Curtis bio-pic, if you’re a Joy Division fan then you already know the ending but still worth watching as it’s gloriously shot in black and white and really watchable. I didn’t live in England in the late ’70s but I imagine this is what it was like!
I live in North Coast NSW so I'll have to wait for the last two:(
But I’m keen to see Beneath Hill 60... Joy Division is a job for Drongo ;)

Fantastic performance. For mine, Melanie Laurent was also amazing and I consider it further proof of how meaningless the Oscars are that it didn’t win Best Picture (honestly they’re nearly as bad as the Logies).

I had to look that one up – I would have been 11 when it came out…but it does sound good. I’ll add it to my list.
I was lucky at school, two of the texts (films) we studied were Cabaret and Breaker Morant.
I taught Cabaret, and Jack Thompson lives about 500 metres from me ;)

Do to budget constraints

PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM CAVENDISH
30th April 2010 – Please find below an apology that Mark Cavendish wishes to be released today.“I want to publicly apologize for the gesture I made on the finish line of the Tour de Romandie yesterday. I did want to make a statement to my critics but I realize that making a rude gesture on the finish line is not the best way to do that. I apologize to everybody watching the race and especially the kids. I am not proud of releasing the feelings in that way. I hope I can redeem myself and show my feelings and passion for cycling with some exciting results in the next couple of months rather than with gestures such as the one yesterday.”
thank you.

I was housebound last weekend when the weather was lovely owing to a nasty cold, and now that I’m better it’s all gone wrong. The law of sod.
but isn't that how it always is?

it’s a great excuse to spend more money on bike stuff.

The thought of a fender on a bike is very strange...:)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
mudguard..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
But what does 'fender' mean in Aussie?
So we get why it would be strange to see one on a bike.
As we went over the top, Frank Schleck said to me, 'Don't worry, follow my wheel, it'll be OK.' But the first corner, he crashed, he went into a ditch....For two years now I've had to explain why I'm bad at going downhill because of that day.--Robert Gesink
I get you... a fender in my head is always American and always on a car...
I just heve never thought about it in the context of a bike. But aside from calling a car crash a ‘fender bender’, we don’t use the word.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
True... also American..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Oh, okay.
I guess growing up with them it just seems logical—fenders are in the same place on both bikes and cars, and both have a protective function.

OK, just saw the bit about Cav's apology up above...
Sponsors must not have been pleased with him…cause I doubt he had some “come to jesus” all by himself…
The artist formerly known as jf(bunchofnumbers).
Actually, I think he might just have
His track record seems to be to get all pumped up and fire off, and then retract with a grin.
Also, he is always hugely fired up at the end of sprints – he often says dumb things and then apologises
Also, he often apologises.
They clearly aren’t his words, but he may haev thought “oops”
Here rests the case for the defence
yeah he often apologizes
sometimes he even seems sincere although not this time. He’s still mad at his critics. (#@ internet forum people – also, fucking germans, nothing ever changes … – )
He may not seem sincere because they clearly aren't his words
My bet is he regrets doing it – whether that regret is on a personal or a professional level, who knows?
i'm guessing he doesn't regret it for now
maybe someday if he ever really understands how it comes across to a lot of people.
I don't think he regrets it at all
I think it’s part of the reason he is so dominant. He is ruthless, calculating and will do anything to win. That is one reason he is great.

"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
He's also had what was clearly quite a traumatic personal period
The tooth thing was clearly incredibly painful and possibly a bit frightening, he’s split from his lifelong lady etc etc. And the results havent been coming
He may not be in a good place mentally and just damn angry some of the time
I like the lad, I have to confess
really... it doesn't show ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Alas, the defence's case has holes in it
Mr. Cavendish knew he was going to win that sprint, and was thinking about the salute since kilometer zero. This was premeditated action, not a young star caught in the heat of the moment. Also, Mr. Cavendish’s track record of this type of behavior further proves this was premeditated. He simply has made an ass out of himself too many times to fall back on either the “young lad blowing off steam” or “sprinters are naturally aggressive” arguments. Simply put, Mr. Cavendish is an asshole.

"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
But you aren't alone.
Cav’s an emotional guy all around—sure, he could control it better sometimes, but I like the exuberance when he’s happy enough to tolerate the bad behavior when he’s pissed off. Two sides of the same coin.
(Okay, sometimes I rather enjoy the bad behavior, too. Don’t change, Cav!)

Also
He is outspoken about giving his teammates credit. Read any interviews with him and it is all “George Hincapie this, Mark Renshaw that”. Which makes the Greipel thing a bit odd.
In fact, most of the stuff this year has been significantly different in tone from previous years – which makes me thing that he is personally in not great shape (read the Grauniad interview with him recently and you may end up agreeing…)
He’s usually a chirpy chap who likes a bit of banter – possibly not at the moment…
