I'm hungry...
When does this end? I may need to go out for something.
As we went over the top, Frank Schleck said to me, 'Don't worry, follow my wheel, it'll be OK.' But the first corner, he crashed, he went into a ditch....For two years now I've had to explain why I'm bad at going downhill because of that day.--Robert Gesink

Tour of the Gila Controversy
So a big protest is mounting by the riders at the Tour of the Gila over yesterday’s results. The officials “gifted” Levi an 11-second gap over the field.
Watch the video for yourself and make the call (Levi is wearing red and finishes second). The finish is at 3:10.
Here are the official results.
by Chief Commissaire on Apr 30, 2010 11:01 AM EDT reply actions
Oh my god
I was going to make a wiseass comment about the delay being similar to the Tour de California a few years back when they neutralized a stage finish to protect Levi’s lead.

Hm.
looks a bit like everyone from 4th downwards got 8s added, because on the video there’s no gap between 3rd and 4th, right?
were there bonus secs?

by TheFigurehead on Apr 30, 2010 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions
Yes I thoght that, but they're listed seperately
they aren’t added to the stage times on the document there. Fairly sure.
Camera Malfunction
Apparently, there was a camera malfunction. But this video clearly shows that there was about a second gap between first and second and maybe another second or two between second and third. But after that, there is no pronounced gap.
by Chief Commissaire on Apr 30, 2010 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions
It looks to me like they've added the time bonuses.
Cause Leipheimer comes in, and then 1 second later 3rd place, but with two seconds less bonus (3) and two seconds later the peloton, but with 4 seconds less bonus than third ( 13).
However, that isn’t consistant with the gap between 1st and second. Cause LL comes in two seconds after 1st and has 4 seconds less bonus….so he should be at +6secs…if they used that method.
Confusing, and it appears, incorrect.
Time Bonuses Are Scored Separately - see the results.
by Chief Commissaire on Apr 30, 2010 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions
I see that... that was the point of my post
If you add the bonuses, with the time splits it’s actaully pretty accurate, if not…. it’s waaay out of whack, cause there is no way that gap is more than 2 seconds. 3 seconds max.
I wonder what kind of rider Alex would be?
I’m thinking classics, TT, kinda like Spartacus, with more Theo Bos type “incidents”

In your opinion...
Do riders in general TT better than say 10 or 20 years ago? Do they put more time into improving themselves?
Yes... it's become a science
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I dunno, is that true?
I mean, the science and bikes help a little, but the hour record times (nearly 55kmph) show that even with old equipment, if you can hammer, you go fast.
Maybe there is much more parity now.
i'd prefer that wasn't a science, but money has encouraged the science..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
i would say it depends on the rider's ultimate goal...

The equipment and wind tunnel testing gets press because it looks space age, but I think there is a larger focus in training as well.
I think we have a certain fellow riding the Gila to thank for bringing focus to the discipline. Even though Indurain dominated the discipline, I think the focus and prep was a product of the former’s success.

for all the fact that I'm not averse to a little sarcasm, that wasn't ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
In my world a point is a marker of sarcasm.
Aren’t you glad you don’t have to live in it?
Well, it would be a little chilly, but other than that I think I'd like it.
The problem may be though, that I don’t know what you mean by ‘point’ in this context.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
The punctuation mark. That one --->. is that not one?
What are these → ……… called?
In the US 'period', in Australia, and Britain I think, 'full stop'.
Interesting… because how can you end without a punctuation mark?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
:) That was the point (sic!). ..
My point point. Are you sure you can’t call it a point? OK, I’m reformed. For me a full stop is a marker of sarcasm. A period is a marker of sarcasm to me… A period only happens once in a while. Quite regularly, though. Periods are a nuisance.
They are a necessary evil... when would we breathe?
Normally, sarcasm, which differs a little from country to country I think, is obvious, or may be marked by a question mark or an exclamation mark.

As we went over the top, Frank Schleck said to me, 'Don't worry, follow my wheel, it'll be OK.' But the first corner, he crashed, he went into a ditch....For two years now I've had to explain why I'm bad at going downhill because of that day.--Robert Gesink
I know I'm biased, but I think so too. A little humility never hurts.

I don't know, I think Mick would find it pretty funny
If you were to walk up to someone in a bar and ask “Excuse me, but would you be interested in helping me root for Mick Rogers?”.
I’d be kind of proud if that happened on my account.

Anyone know who went out before Porte?
Looking for the name of the guy he passed, but can’t find the start list.
HTC have withdrawn Cavendish from the race
Over the salute.
I’m sure he’ll be devastated to miss all those climbs
Nice that they're giving his prize money for the stage to Right To Play.
