Twit du Jour

3612798740_5c3312bc37_medium

Manuel Quinziato rode the cobbles today in preparation for Sunday's big day out. He has today's Twit du Jour.

PR recon done. It's always a special day. I liked my ride today, I had fun and that's important... No fun no passion and cycling is passion! about 1 hour ago via web

In other news, this week has been the Week of Lame Chores here in Gav Land. I think I'm done now. Which means I can write about bike racing s'more and play with the interwebs. Yay!

In the meantime, how 'bout some Paris-Roubaix picks? Will Tom Boonen follow his recent pattern of seconds at the Ronde and wins in Roubaix? Or, does Cancellara have the Double in his legs? Maybe it's a first time winner. Post 'em, if you got 'em!

Updated! Now, with photo! Because it's Friday, and photos are phun.

The form’s there and so is the team. But my thinking may be a little blurred by the Abt 12, Corsendonk Dubbel, and Achel Blond that I’ve polished off tonight. It would be awesome if somehow GH or Jan Anton Vanderpijl slipped off the front while T Bone and Cance were making eyes at each other, but that is just a dream. Another dream scenario would be for it to come down to a sprint where Hushovd and/or Farrar were there to contest it. But, like I said, a dream.

Got to Kotrijk

Walked outside the train station and saw Saxo and Katusha busses and mobile bike shops. Spent a while watching Pippo go through his bikes with the mechanic. Katusha is using a lot of different stuff. Almost everyone is riding Ambrosio’s. Lot’s of canti rear brakes, and about half the team has a rear break lever mounted on the bar tops- cross style.

Kortrijk seems to be a good place to be right now. Should see more tomorrow.

I have a hard time seeing anyone beat Tony this week, but P-R has a way of making predictions seem foolish.

they're out there.

gp4s are easier to find, though (although reflexes are good too, and velocity tubulars look reliable also).

Honestly: with aluminum rims, tufo extreme tape makes the process of mounting a tubular more easy than a clincher.

Combine that with some sealant (Stan’s caffelatex, etc) or a can of vittoria pit stop plus a tough tire like a conti sprinter gatorskin and you have a really good everyday set-up.

Reiner Honig (acqua&sapone), nicholas Rosseau (AG2R), Arnaud Coyot (Caisse), Cedric Coutouly (Saur), Markus Eichler (Milram) and Joost van Leijen (Vacansoleil)

Is it possible that Tom will sit on Fabian’s wheel out of fear and follow?
Can this lead to not so favoured riders sneakaway, if Cancellara looks the other way?
I hope Tom dont decide that “I will follow Cancellara around” because Breschel will be ready with the one two punch.

06 is a good starting point

QS had 8 in the top-60. But when about 17 guys broke clear after the Arenberg, no one from QS except Boonen was there – not even Pippo. None of them ever made it back to the front and it made a difference. Guess who won that race…

I can see something similar happening Sunday. Though I can’t see Boonen as 7th wheel coming out of Gruson like he was that year.

De Vlaeminck rates Paris-Roubaix contenders

at Sporza.

As I understand, he can’t see past Cancellara unless Boonen has improved since the Tour of Flanders. Noone else is in it. It seems he puts Devolder first among guys who won’t win, but maybe someone can clarify this. Dismissed out of hand: Pozzato, Flecha, Hushovd, Vansummeren, H\o/ste, and (sort of unusually) Breschel.

Apologies to any Dutch or Flemish people if I’ve wildly misrepresented the article.

Man he is scathing if I understand the article right. On Breschel: “Who is that?”; on Flecha: “He can’t do anything himself”; on Hoste and Vansummeren: “It ain’t gonna happen.” Apologies if those are bad translations.

I'm feverished, or the way you want to spell it

Comes across as a tool

He wants Cancellara to win over his countryman Boonen because he wants to preserve his record of four wins. Did the Badger, who he resembles, say he didn’t want Indurain or Armstrong to win five? Don’t think so.

See the Velonation article, which validates the translation skills of Triki and Pliny. I tried to read through sporza too with my sub-amateur Dutch…always fun.

I think you misunderstood

He did not say that he wanted Cance to win because of the 4 wins. Not exactly, anyway, and he put things into perspective:

“Boonen didn’t have enough in the Ronde. I don’t know how will retrieve that in a week. But I do hope he will have closed the gap, then we will see an exciting final. Still, I would prefer Cancellara to win. So I prefer Cancellara but if Boonen is the best, he can win it for my part. I care about my record but it won’t keep me awake at night. I lost two friends recently, that’s much worse. If they could return then may Boonen win Paris-Roubaix 25 more times.”
