Drawing! Enter to Win a Photo -- FINAL WEEK!
Final Week!
Want to own a mounted print from The Fred Marx Collection? Want to help me bring you more images?
I have found in my planning that this business of galavanting about the countryside to bring you images of your favorite racers can be a costly endeavor. So I'm holding a drawing to raise some money to help with travel costs.
Here's how it works: You place $5.00 in a brown paper bag, er my paypal account, catdriver@gmail.com. Be sure to include your name, email and handle. You have until the final day of the Giro d'Italia to enter. For each $5.00 contribution, you receive one ticket for the raffle.
On the day following the end of the Giro, Gavia, noted Gossip Columnist, will put all the names on little bits of paper. Into her Big Floppy Beach Hat they will go. She will then draw two lucky winners from the Floppy Beach Hat.
Winners will get to pick one (1) image from the Fred Marx Collection. Some images for which I no longer have usable originals may be excluded. (Photos from the Gavia gallery are also excluded.)This image will be custom printed at about 20 inches on the long side, and mounted, then shipped directly to you. The final size of the print will be a factor of what fits in the large sized USPS mailer I can find.
Simple, no? Enter as many times as strikes your fancy. No obligation, of course. If you don't wish to play, no one will hold it against you.
To Enter send $5 to catdriver@gmail.com via paypal.
The drawing is open to all, regardless of your geographic location. Should you live in one of the more inaccessible locations it just may take longer for your prize to arrive. If you're outside the United States, I'll cover postage.
Your Gossip Girl modeling the Floppy Hat.

Also
Seriously, folks, check out that gallery. There are some awesome non-cycling shots that may also interest you.
killah
I suppose because I am actually doing the drawing, I can’t really enter. Cuz that would like totally be conflicting and stuff.
But I’ll be jealous of the winner, cuz there’s some nice wall candy in the collections, for sure.
Monday morning
we got off to a fabulous start thanks to the Juris family from the DC Metro area.
Todays goal is to gain four new members……..

I'll pay money to put Gav in a sombrero...
… just so I can call her the Burrito Bandito.
Translated from Danish into English: "Bush league, psyche out shit, man! Laughable!"
Sombrero?
Freshman year Cinco de Mayo, maybe. Not not since then.
So, you’re saying Gav in funny hats is a money making proposition? I must ponder this. Deeply.
You have a head for hats...
… which is better than me… I have a face for radio.
Translated from Danish into English: "Bush league, psyche out shit, man! Laughable!"
If the same name is drawn both times
(could happen with bigger donations) is it one win per person? I think its cool either way, just wondering.
Lets say we suck at winning things, are you offering any “buy now” prize options? There’s still a favorite shot of a favorite sweetie winning a certain stage 4 of a certain race in Utah that would really look sweet on my wall. It would go awesome with a certain cock-punch shot – which by the way to the taker of that said photo – it’s still up on the bus! ha ha.
I'm ready for this road season to wrap up. Bring on Cross!
I'm thinking after the draw I will open up to regular sales.
Your fav guy is still on my hard drive waiting for you. I need to find/figure out a good online sales system since Pbase does not offer a shopping cart and doesn’t integrate well with any existing systems. All entries eligible regardless of how many one buys. If one wanted be generous and limit the number of entries but still make a larger contribution to the cause no one is going to argue against it. In the case that one were to win twice, one prize could also be forgone and a second draw will be held at that time.

We can explore options such time as that might happen
and base the outcome on the depth of the field….

Zenfolio
I don’t sell prints but have used Zenfolio in the past for a gallery, and they offer a print sales option.
In the week or so after Mt Hood I will be moving selected images to a site that supports e commerce.
This is the only chance to get unlimited access to the full photo set. Selling prints is no real issue, it’s the other logistics that need to be worked out.

Tuesday: We made our goal for Monday four of you joined in the fun.
Can we repeat today? Perhaps we should try for six…..
The first major race of the season will be the scenic Mt Hood Classic. At Mt Hood the plan is to feature the ladies of the NorAm peloton.
So pledge now and pledge often!

Friday night...
So as of he close of the day we have 33 entries. A good start. I appreciate the generosity. Anyone else out there feel like joining the fun? I know the economy sucks. That’s part of the reason I felt the need to reach out to the membership. Anyway, please join up if you would like to see more photos top races around the western US.
Thanks!
Chris

We're headed into the final week of the draw.
Anyone else fancy their chances? Anyone else have a blank spot on one of their walls that just begs for a nice 16×20? Both winners get their choice of images from the collection, including but not limited to something like this:

In case you're following along at home..
The Giro ends this week and that will mark the close of the draw. Get that last minute entry in folks. That way Gavia will have many little slips of paper to fill her floppy hat.

Print size for winners.
I’ve determined that 16-20" roughly is going to be the size of the print for the winners. Unless you wish something smaller based on your wall or desk space. Final size will be a factor of the image crop, but 16-20 what my lab uses as the price point. The lab is Borg-Andersen out of Salt Lake City their website is here: http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html# The Lambda print is a quality laser image on photographic paper. Read about it on that page. I’ll undertake to do have the lab work done in June after the Mt Hood Classic.
Just a few days left to join in.

The draw is now closed..
The entries have been sent off to the informal and impartial blind drawer of names and her hat. Hopefully she will have pictures. Winners will be announced here at the Cafe with our usual aplomb.
Thanks to those who chose to play along

Drawing
Later today, when the sun comes out a bit – it’s quite dark and foggy right now – I will put the names in my floppy hat, record the moment for posterity, and do up the draw! Should be fun!
