Last Saturday saw the Smithfield Nocturne take place in London (see my preview here) and an evening of excellent racing concluding with the men's elite criterium as the sun set. Before that there was a strung out men's amateur race, folding bike racing and one of PdC's finest (smaryka) finishing an excellent tenth (oh and the British National Champion competing on an icecream bike...).
I had the pleasure of meeting Albertina and taking some photos of the racing of which I'm moderately proud - one below to whet your appetite, more on the flip and at
Ian Bibby (winner), Jack Bauer (third) and Zak Dempster (second) or Darren Lapthorne (fourth) in the escape that stayed away to contest the win - with two of the strongest teams in the break the field was content to let them get away
Suffering in the men's amateur race
British National ice-cream delivery champion, Kristian House
The women's race on an early lap with the field already split to pieces
PdC-er Maryka in the women's race
A scene-setter: Smithfield market overseen by the Barbican towers
The men's elite race takes the corner at the end of the finishing-straight
The escape pulling out its lead
The bunch looks at one another - who is going to do the chasing?
Kristian House thinks about making the bridge (but soon gave up)
Ian Bibby takes the win
