Le Tour: Frinking...'s Five To Watch

Give me a finger.. And I get your hand. So after Gavia's fingerreach to write about "your big 5", Le-tour-sm_medium_medium

I'll took the glove and put him on.. The, I am not being reserved here, 5 man to watch at the Tour are the follow:

1. Nicolas Vogondy

Ok, whenever he fails, he doesn't fail in my eyes. Whenever he flies, he flies over the biggest mountain in my eyes.. Whenever he rides average.. My expectation every stage will be higher.. Because it's Vogondy. The one who fooled the peloton... Almost... 50meter was his Tourstage too long. Let's get back to 2008..

[Ed. note: more on the jump!]

Star-divide

Vogondy riding for Agritubel and does whatever everyone dreams. Becoming champions of your own country. In this case the French National. This of course result in the selection of Vogondy in the Tour de France equip.. Let's skip to stage 5. 3, before I get all kritikasters on my head, farly unknow French cyclist are on a hopeless mission.. The 3 are: Jegou, Brard and Vogondy. Trying to trick the peloton they open the gas throttle on 20 km to go. And off for a fly they were.. Or so it seems.. 3 km at the end somewhere Frinking shouted:

Vogondy seems freewheeling!

And he saw it right... Just 500m after that he got in 8th gear and off were Jegou and Brard. A battle Vogondy and the peloton started.. Just hitting 60km/h I shouted again:

Is he going to make it?! HE;s going to make it?! IS he?! Please tell me he's going to make it... C'MOOON! VOGONDY! You can do it! ALLLEEZZ!

And well.. Prudhomme decided different.. 50 lousy meters he came short.. (Prudhomme responsible of the placing of the finishline) Tho the birth of a star was started! Cavendish won his first stage in the Tour.......

Ah well.. Vogondy felt like he was.. nvm..

But well.. That brains.. The fabulous mountain stage win in the Daphine this year... His TT win in the French champion.. It's all a harbinger for the KOM jersey in the Tour.. And yes I'm serious here.. Biggest contender is here!

2. Mattias Frank

2 reasons.. He's on my VDS team and was, with Burghardt, incroyable strong in Suisse in a not too shabby field.. Frank is steady growing to an all time attacker/climber. An Ignatiev in the mountains. It all depends on Evans. Is he going to be a a helper for him.. Or is Evans only riding for Evans and doesn't he need help... (Frank is not going to give support up in the high mountains) So why is MAttia in the top 5?

Because he's going to get in the competition of most attacking rider.. Getting BMC on the card and maybe get that KOM jersey for a couple of days.. Why not? Too bad he lost his, in my mind friend, Frey.. It was such a lovely couple.. Frank and Frey.. Get your revenge for him!

3 Rein Taaräeme

The man for the future. Okay and again a favorite of mine so only if they don't mention his name at least one time I will be disappointed.. But if it was because he was already in his form, the other weren't, his peak was in the spring. Nice placings in Paris Nice and Spanish races.. But the Alpe D'Huez stage was very dissapointed! 55th?! serious? The mountains were too high? More a man for the middle mountains? Too long season?! Let's hope not.. He showed something in Route du Sud in a shabby field. But in form, the  best case scenario.

Attacks! And a stage win... Maybe a top 20 place... Hopefully better.. Altho a stage win would be phenomenal..

4 Thor Hushovd

We are playing hide and seek.. There is one man who isn't found in the last 3 rounds.. The 4th round.. He takes his chance.. Runs to the eeeh freeplace and free them all.. That is Thor. With a 6th and second place in PR and MASR he started well.. Than like the whole CTT he flatted, and flatted, and flatted and flatted... Till we saw some of a shinig star again at the end of the Tour de Suisse.. 9th in a sprint, okay... And a 16th place in the TT.. Clearly building form after his 124th place in the prologue.

But.. his National Jersey sealed the deal.. Before some unknown riders it seems like he's getting right in form. The perfect place, the perfect position for the Green.. Watch this little thunder.. I will not too be surprised if he is in the  yellow after the yellow stage. And I wil beg CTT DS's.. Please let the Thor not wait for Sastre.. Juice is running out in that lane..

5. Fabio Felline

Not an real favorite for mine, but hey.. there are others who are always celebrating this coming man. His first Tour and riding for the disgraced Footon. Isn't it because of the low quality, than is it because their nudity. And to a point all the critic is right but we have seen through them some shinning stars. 3 GC invites are waaay to much but the team is growing positively.

Back to Felline. A grow of 240 CQpoints  in one year. Because of his good sprint + climb. It's a  Roche look-a-move.. Only more printer, less climber. Those qualities came all together in the Circuit de Lorraine. Spriting on the flat he beat Huta and Paolini, sprinting uphill beating Carrara and +3secs rest of peloton.. Impressive for a 20 year old!

My top 5.. Don't nail me on my predictions. My hopes are always a little exaggerated everywhere..

I agree...

…that your hopes may be a little (or a lot) exaggerated, but an interesting list, nonetheless….

Thanks Frinking.

I think I’m going to pick Vogondy to win stage 10. It’s Bastille Day!

Taarmaeme

I think-hope-that he was just starting to recapture his form at the Dauphine and we’ll have multiple stages of cheering him on.

Be honest

for numbers 2 and 5 you just randomly chose a name out of a hat right? :) I do expect some good things from Vogondy though, no doubt he will be looking to attack on Bastille Day. Taaramae has been a hopeful for awhile now and hasn’t really shined. The Estonian Leenooos and now that his badass kit is gone I will probably not even notice him.

This was awesome.

What the world really needs is more Frinky posts. Thanks Frinky for putting on the glove or whatever it is you said you did there. Not sure I want to know…

translation: I believe Frinking took up the gauntlet

which you threw down (?).

Dutch is a good simplifying language. A glove’s a glove, whether for knights in armor, or for gardening.
