Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Stage Predictor Game: Action early and often(stage 16)

We have arrived at the circle of death as Jens put it. 4 brutal climbs, all either cat 1 or HC ranked. The Tourmalet is climbed for the first time in this years Tour as well the Col d'Aubisque, the final climb of the day which summits 60km from the finish. The mountain points hunters will be in the break but I have a feeling some bigger names will as well. A very unpredictable stage.

Climb Details:

  • Km 11.0 - Col de Peyresourde - 11.0 km climb to 7.4 % - Category 1
  • Km 42.5 - Col d'Aspin - 12.3 km climb to 6.3 % - Category 1
  • Km 72.0 - Col du Tourmalet (Souvenir Jacques Goddet) - 17.1 km climb to 7.3 % - Category H
  • Km 138.0 - Col d'Aubisque - 29.2 km climb to 4.2 % - Category H

What Christian Prudhomme says:

We have been criticised because the Tourmalet pass (where the Jacques-Goddet memorial trophy will be awarded at the summit) is apparently too far from the finishing line. Some say that it will not bring anything to how the race develops. The only thing is neither Pau nor the Col du Tourmalet have changed place, and everything depends on the race. The riders will have to tackle Peyresourde from the start, Aspin, Tourmalet and Aubisque. Admittedly, the Aubisque pass is 60 kilometres from the finishing line, but it is followed by 30 kilometres of descent before getting to grips with the valley bottom. It is the same route (except that the stage finish was in Mourenx) as in 1969 when Eddy Merckx was victorious after a 180-kilometre breakaway. We wanted to make this stage a little tribute to him.

If this stage doesn’t end with a breakaway winning, I’ll eat it.

How about if

they all ride tempo and finish with the grupetto—cause the stage is too hard to figure out—Thor wins all the intermediate points and Cavendish takes the sprint? Could happen, theoretically possible, don’tchya think?

;) You're right!

First there is one who’s name we can’t even mention, plus an extra terrestrial+ we need two domestiques (one of whom is very “solid” and one who seems able to influence the event from a distance).

I think this may well be the first time I've ever won anything.

I was at a bit of a loss but then remembered he’d won that (non) Tourmalet stage last year.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
