Robert Gesink on the difference between football and cycling: "For us it's a lot harder to get yellow"
I'd like to thank all who kept believing in me
Even when I went through some rough times.

illa illa illa, Villa maravilla!
Good morning. I'm rather excited
Kinda feel sorry for the sprinters. As if today wasn’t bad enough, have some cold rain and wind!
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
I like Lloyd but JJ can climb a bit better than him :P
Having said that, considering JJ IS a sprinter, he’s not actually been in the Gruppetto once this Tour ;)
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
He did come FOURTH in a mountain stage the other day...despite Phil thinking he was Gadret (grumble)
;-)
Nice marmotte
Indeed I do. Thankfully I shall have ES today.
Lloyd just needs to make it round, as I have to stalk him (in the nicest possible way) in Paris :P
Nice marmotte
I think he will
He’s made is this far and i imagine his giant piece of missing skin must be healing nicely by now :)
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Robbie will be peeved if he can't form it before then?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Bit late isn't it?
Why hang around, they may as well form it early and just get on with it. Poor boys..
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Either that or it'll be as crazy a start as the past few
I’m sure some of them will be hoping to take it easy ;)
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
The Polka dots should come into play
I can imagine BBox trying to f*** up Moreau’s challenge by getting people off to steal points.
McEwen's solution to the Tourmalet today...
Maybe I can leash some of the cats & dogs it’s raining here & use them to tow me up the tourmalet….
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Chock to the system
Day after restday + completely different weather. Some people are going to pay the price.
Normally I'd be working from home on a day like this
But the office is full of Eurosport TVs and I’ve got leaving drinks planned for this evening.
Today is going to be a big bag of win. Procycleracing™, lots of drink with mates and very little work to do.
Any bets on how many abandons there will be today?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Very little, I think, I hope
Say, 2. Paris seems so close from here, I guess most will want to suffer through today and feel it’s in the bag.
Ceci n'est pas une signature.
I agree, but the rain and the cold must seem like the final insult..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I will be at work for another hour and 27 minutes.
Then I am off to this place, where they have a big screen. They also serve pies, and a beer called Slag Pils.
Nice marmotte
I'd rather be there, a cycling cafe with tons of coffee?! What's not to love
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
You have a point....I may try the beer though, and I shall certainly have a pie for lunch!
Nice marmotte
Yeah.
There’s the bar nearer Hatton Garden that has all the couriers, but didn’t know of any other cycling pubs that way. Pity I didn’t know about it last weekend
Oh gosh, so it is! I hadn't noticed, having my back to the window.
And I am wearing The World’s Least Waterproof Shoes. I do have an umbrella though…phew.
Nice marmotte
That would not happen to an Australian in London ;)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Aren't all 'work' shoes leather...
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
But you also work in a place with 3 TV screens :)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Mine are fake suede...or these particular ones are
We can wear what we like to work really, although I do err on the side of dressed up ;)
Nice marmotte
Oh yes. They make Chuck Taylors in leather ;-)
… and those are my ‘work shoes’. Canvas ones for outside of work (except ‘special occasions’ – where of course the logical choice is the leather Chucks)
illa illa illa, Villa maravilla!
Yes
My feet will be fine.
I don’t actually need to leave the office until 1730 to head to the pub, so hopefully this is a passing shower.
It's fairly new.
I went there once during the Giro and have been meaning to go back. They do all the highlights in the evenings too. I hope they’ll do some more minor races as well once the Tour is over!
Nice marmotte
Hi, everybody. VSTracker says coverage starts in 5 minutes, yay!
I was up before my alarm. I see it is raining in Pau this morning. I’m nervous and excited, no need for coffee today!
Hi there... treat yourself to coffee anyway... in honour of Jens!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Danish TV very nervous about live pictures this morning
everyone keep fingers crossed, prey, sacrifice virgins or do whatever you do for luck
I have puppies (not Cunego) and I will hurt them if the weather ruins it all!
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
turn around three times and spit!
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Just once... but make it count..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I've been terrified about a possible lack of coverage ever since I saw the forecast.
Please please no.
Nice marmotte
British ES getting into quite a debate about chaingate
Stephen Roche and Rob Hayles don’t agree. James is sort of on the fence really.
I’m just wishing they’d shuttup and talk about today. I’m sure they have rider interviews from the start they could show us or discuss today’s tactics.
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Did Roche recommend not waiting?
Cause he certainly did not wait when the MJ (Bernadeau I believe) dropped HIS chain in ’87 :-)
by Doctornurse7 on Jul 22, 2010 6:24 AM EDT up reply actions
Agreed...The Horse is on his deathbed on this one...
But racing incident, Chavanel being left by AS on the cobbles when he had the MJ and the whole thing with Poulidor being dropped when he had a front wheel issue in ’64 means that Contador was right to race- but on to today, yes?

This is a trick question isn't it?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Actually, for once, it was not. I'm not going to be able to follow the whole
stage today. So this was just an alternative way of asking when the winner will cross the finish line. The ETA, so to speak (no pun unintended).
This is a question I will stab at... four and a half hours from now..

Oh, so now I find that this Cafe isn't starting coverage until 2pm.
I guess I’ll just have to go shoe shopping first then.

Why are commentators always yapping about nonsense
instead of actually saying whats happening? There will be hours to kill later
Maybe they are not aware that the start is a crucial part of the race. Beats me.
Commentators.. They are like you guys, minus the knowledge.

Doesn't look like it'll stay the course.
Bigger cheeses will want the stage win, who’ll attack later, and the polka dot hunters aren’t present either.
I am currently at work but will soon be leaving to go to a cafe/bar.
Sadly I had to leave the orange lycra at home though. I didn’t think it would go down too well in the office.
Nice marmotte
I am sorry to disappoint.
To atone for this, next year I will go to a bar dressed as a marmotte.

So does Astana use AC's domestiques to just mark Andy's promised attacks...
…And allow AC to pace himself up the Tourmalet?
Or does Astana drive the pace to blunt these attacks in the first place?
What do you guys/girls think? (I say the former)
Astana need to do nothing today other than mark Schleck and maybe Menchov.
It’s unlikely Andy will have support, so just let him do all the pacing.
Yeah, but I mean with these stakes, he HAS to play his position, no?
Of course, this IS Vino we are talking about here…
by Doctornurse7 on Jul 22, 2010 6:57 AM EDT up reply actions
Vino winning might help Bert anyway :)
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I say the latter.
By the time Andy starts attacking, all the domestiques will hae been shed, save Vino. I think it will have been Astana that’s done the shedding, even if Saxo were capable of doing it, which they prolly aren’t.
Who were the three riders?

Helmet off...Looking better
Not sure he will race again today…
He's going to get back on?
Oh Sammy! :( Panicking here damn it. Sastre getting told off by Luis and AC for trying to ride off
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Jeez Carlos....
I mean man, could you not slow a BIT? I mean really….
the thing is, where do you put the limit?
Cervelo was launching the race, they’re lauching Konovalovas to act as a bridge. Sastre is supposed to wait? why?
Of course you are correct...
But you know, its 150K to go…
It just looks a bit harsh that’s all to a newly sensitised public, s’all
by Doctornurse7 on Jul 22, 2010 7:12 AM EDT up reply actions
I guess the whole “Chain-gate” has had an effect on these situations. But…like I said before, where do you put the limit? Do you wait or even ditch your plans because a rider had bad luck? Are you gonna wait for everyone? Cervelo, up to Sanchez’s fall, was trying to move the race preparing Sastre’s attack. I agree the timing might have come across as a bit weird, but I personally don’t find anything objectionable to it.
BTW, morning to everyone
Didn’t mean to be rude, after lurking a few days I’ve noticed you guys have got a great community here. I usually frequent Blazersedge, another SB nation site, and came across this one. When work allows, I’ll try and pop a few comments now and then. Un saludo!
Morning to you!

But, I think Andy matured a lot and wouldn’t have tried to drag Frank on the podium at the expense of winning this year.
Frank and Andy always try to keep in contact with each other
They were doing it all spring too.
I am not saying they would have done it during the Tour this year though.
