Some of that is repeated from a video he did last year showing his packing style

Remind me...
Apart from Lemond in 1990, who has won the TdF wihout winning a stage?

The man signed my copy of 'Men at Arms'
… he wrote: “To Louise, BOO! Terry Pratchett”…
illa illa illa, Villa maravilla!
So you were at a book signing?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Oh no, I bumped into him down at the pub
(sorry! Yes, I went to a signing when he was in Sydney, many years ago…)
illa illa illa, Villa maravilla!
Very cool... so you are going BACK to fiction...
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'

Well that's why I don't read him...if I listen to Shades, I'll feel dopey.

Nah - he's a bit like Douglas Adams
there’s a story, and characters , and then a few dozen layers of inferred references – but not in a swotty way
Dude, I can see my house from here
I quite like 'swotty way', and Douglas Adams..

I meant Douglas Adams is not swotty

Well try Guards! Guards! and see if you like it would be my recommendation.

Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Oh my.
Oh my.
Dear ES reader – you can answer that for yourself just fine, ’cause you have no intention of stepping outside you own head, I suspect….

I was kind of amused by his music analogy
where Lance is “popular” music, compared to indie music which is so championed these days. Of course, the reason indie bands are championed is that many of them are, you know…way better and more interesting than the generic drivel they play on the radio.
O/T: i will never get to ask anyone else so...
We Were Promised Jetpacks…..popular in the UK?
"The motor happens to be me." -Fabian
Not really
I’ve heard of them and listened to them but no-one I know has. They probably do have a following here, but it’s not a big one…
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
really, a great song.

Does anyone know much about Koren?
Interested to know if he’s a relation of the footballer, Robert..
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Yeah, it's easy to find rider info on him but not so much family info
I guess Koren is probably a common name in Slovenia?
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Don't worry, that question had occured to me too. ;-)

what an excellent point in the stage to start watching.
Many thanks to the dulcet tones of my wake-up call.
(It does not escape my notice that I just woke up at 4:30 to sit on the couch and watch tv.)

will anyone calculate how much time overall
various teams spent at the head of the peloton? I feel like I’ve seen Saxobank and Astana all race long and not much of anyone else.
good question.

Thanks for that!
Sorry, am mis-reading VS. Is Sastre only 1:20 back from the breakaway? I thought
that timing was for the riders that the breakaway has dropped? (…need more coffee)

Good morning Fellow Judgment Day watchers!
I am surprised that you already on the second tread!
My plan for total Tour insulation during rest day, was a bust! So many interesting posts, I can’t stayed away. Plus there is also Phil’s evil invention, The Predictor!

Test post, third attempt. Can’t post on my computer (???), trying other computer.

My computer LOVES PdC!
It’s the reverse that’s the problem. I’ll tell you it’s inconvenient. I won’t reboot, though, because I have a good Eurosport stream.

Evening! I see you.

Ack!
Emergency broadcast system test. Isn’t there a fishing show they could interrupt for that?
Vlaanderens Mooiste
Sastre starting to lose ground on the flats. 30 seconds so far
To be expected I guess. I bet he catches on easily the Soulor
Not necessarily
That’s a long way away. Another half hour on the flats. He could easily be 4 minutes behind by then, even if he keeps trying.
"Gold medal, silver medal, bronze medal; for me, potato." - Emil Zatopek
100.4km to go, gap is 8.40 to the peloton from the leaders
How far back is Sastre now? 1.5 minutes?
Venga Caisse d'Epargne!
Kinda have to look at him as a solo break
and ignore the 7-man ahead. Sastre on his own 6:20 ahead of the pack. Having the break ahead maybe makes his situation look worse than it would if it was just him up the road.
"Gold medal, silver medal, bronze medal; for me, potato." - Emil Zatopek
Is there a reason why they wouldn't be?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I think they're allowed...
I’m sure I saw them last year, but could be getting mixed up with another race.
I thought so too..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Yep... but maybe they were wearing dark blue, and the yellow was at the Giro?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Makes sense...
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
aaahahaha... go on!
… and if you move on to Latin choral stuff, I might join in ;-). I’ve been known to belt out ‘Vesperae Solennes de Confessore’ whilst driving… I do get some odd looks at the traffic lights…
illa illa illa, Villa maravilla!
Lou, are you hiding your light under a bushel here?!
I had no idea you were a singer;) Duet time! I do a good line in Latin choral music….
Nice marmotte
I would say the short answer is yes..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Well give us a bite, then!
illa illa illa, Villa maravilla!
Pie is not going to cut it, we need lots of calories for today! Bacon!
Alexander " Love him or not" Vinokurov is the Eighth Wonder of the World.
.
No thanks
Not partial to pig. I can tolerate pork in some instances… but bacon is off the menu. Yuk. There is some wisom in Leviticus ;-)
illa illa illa, Villa maravilla!
What DO you eat?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Not much meat ;-)
No seafood (of course)… I generally chose not to touch poultry. No Pig, except in the sausages that I use to make my ‘curried bangers’. I can do cow, if I must… Oh, I do like sheep… and kangaroo… but I don’t chose to eat either very often.
There aren’t many vegetables that I don’t like ;-). I’m big on grains and veggies.
illa illa illa, Villa maravilla!
that sounds very very healthy... I like seafood and beef best...
and fruit more than veggies… LOL And rice is my staple of choice… it’s like left and right brain stuff..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'

Bacon in the chocolate! Mmm, national Russian cuisine! lol
Alexander " Love him or not" Vinokurov is the Eighth Wonder of the World.

I will be so happy when JB, LA & Co. get indicted...
…since it will mean Vs. can stop trying to burnish their images with puff pieces.
well, if it happens after the tour, they'll have six or eight months to recover...
…before Vs. covers cycling again.
Naw,
they will just act very, very disappointed. Remember the tone they took when Millar got caught?

Seriously, kudos to that whole team, especially VDB. I’m pleasantly surprised.
And Footon, too, has performed admirably, at least above my expectations.
I think they've been excellent, given their inexperience.. and youth.
