CyclingNews guide to rider transfers makes the claim that they will be up to the minute for the rest of the season. Liars!
Now if we could just get Frinking to repost his list in a week or ten days, then we can rec it and it will still be up on the 1st of September when everybody, teams included, can talk.

Hey

Barredo to Rabo is confirmed is it?
Oh and Frederique Robert to QS is coming from PWS-Eijssen Cycling Team…just FYI.

by cyclingdiva on Aug 13, 2010 9:25 AM EDT reply actions

Too bad Cunego's leaving Lampre now

If he could have teamed up with Scarponi it would have made for some interesting racing between those two.

by Fernando on Aug 13, 2010 9:32 AM EDT reply actions

Astana has really been gutted now

Without that Spanish contingent, and with an aging Vino, there’s not much to like there anymore. I’d opt for Katusha if I were Menchov.

by Fernando on Aug 13, 2010 9:35 AM EDT reply actions

Also Intxausti has refused the contract from Movistar according to one source

and probably won’t join the team. He has two other offers from RadioShack and Garmin.

I don't think he refused it...not sure it was there in the first place.

Can I ask where you got that about the Shack and Garmin, cos I’ve only seen it in a rather unsubstantiated tweet.

Odd, that one says he refused the offer but Unzue seems to suggest there never was an offer. Oh well, we’ll find out eventually!

Nope, not confirmed.

The story with the team is that Footon got a huge sponsorship deal with Geox, and now have some cash to spend.

I should have rather asked...

Where do I find an up to date Transferlist… Well.. now it also can be found here

by Frinking on Aug 13, 2010 11:25 AM EDT reply actions

Apparently Geox will be signing Fabio Duarte, the Colombian climbing sensation who was the former U-23 RR World Champ

though he has many offers according to biciciclismo. Wants to ride the Giro for next year on a team that is a lock for it.

I have a spreadsheet going but it isn't as pretty

Here I published it as a spreadsheet and update it with new stuff from All PT and Pro Conti. Teams along with some conti. Teams. I also included some teams moving up to Pro. Conti next year like NetAPP and Bretagne Schuller

does anyone know what is happening with valjevec?

Didn’t the Slovenian olympic committee or cycling federation decline to press charges because they thought the irregularities in blood values were explainable? Does that mean it is up to the UCI to appeal to the CAS if they want him to get suspended and that he has not been officially fired by ag2r? His excuse was that he had a stomach problem and the internal bleeding/other effects caused irregular values, and I read that this same problem could jeopardize his future career. But still, it seems like he could be racing next year for the same team.

by Nomer on Aug 13, 2010 10:14 PM EDT reply actions

Well then...according to the Australian (reputable, correct?), Fly V Australia is expected to announce

a group of partners that will allow them to become a Pro Tour team next year with a base in Belgium. They are shooting for a budget around 10 million euro. They all ready have 5 signed for next year but need to sign about 15-20 more.

Hope they aren’t biting off more than they can chew instead of not going Pro Conti. and then PT.

Tommeke!, Tommeke!, Tommeke!, Tommeke!

ProTour, immediately? Out of nowhere?

I’d expect Team Lux to get a spot ahead of them; and CervĂ©lo and BMC if they want one (which they probably do, if the retarded 18-point-plan goes ahead), and Vacansoleil wants one too…

by tgsgirl on Aug 14, 2010 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions

The deadline to apply is at the end of the month and their manager said that he would have an application into the UCI

by then. I don’t see the logic myself but they should be announcing signings in the coming weeks. Since McEwen is riding next year and isn’t under contract at Katusha, could be possible.

According to Mart Smeets

Kreuziger will move to Astana. He has a contract offer and Smeets judged the big smile one of the Astani managers showed when asked about it to be an indication that is was a done deal. And of course, Mart Smeets can’t be wrong, right?

by Lopex on Aug 20, 2010 7:23 AM EDT reply actions

Carmiooro NGC are having a bit of trouble at the moment

because NGC have yet to sign on for next year. Sella has signed up for Andronilongname, while young hopeful Daniele Ratto is trying to go to Geox, but signed a neo-pro contract with Carmiooro just this year, which they are holding him to until the UCI deadline. Ratto is the brother of recent silver medallist in the girls’ Worlds Rossella Ratto, who also rides for Carmiooro-NGC and is presumably equally screwed if NGC don’t sign up again.

Followers of the women’s peloton might also recognise Matteo Pelucchi, the other Geox signing in that first article as being the boyfriend of Marina Romoli. It looks like she might also end up on the Geox books in some capacity, as Geox intend to take over what is the current Safi-Pasta Zara squad and run it as their women’s team.

May this be a trend?

But on the plus side, if more riders leave, that leaves more room for conta’s friends to join him.

Posthuma

I think that is a good move by him. Good for Dutch cycling too. The team can’t contain all Dutch talent and therefore some should move on to other teams. Younger guys can than fill their places. Rabo gets to keep the supertalents hopefully.

Matteo Peluchi deserves all the good fortune he can get.

He’s the fiancĂ© of cyclist Marina Romoli who was involved in a terrible car crash this year. He was with her when it happened and spent months by her side:

Bici reporting Team Schleck half-complete:

(don’t look, tgsgirl, it also admits there’s no official confirmation)

Thirteen cyclists Jakob Fuglsang, Dominic Klemme, Stuart O’Grady, Andy Schleck, Frank Schleck, Jens Voigt (Saxo Bank), Linus Gerdemann, Fabian Wegmann (Team Milram), Daniele Bennati (Liquigas-Doimo), Brice Feillu (Vacansoleil) Maxime Monfort (HTC-Columbia), Joost Posthuma (Rabobank), Robert Wagner (Skil-Shimano). And likely they are: Anders Lund and Laurent Didier, also of Saxo Bank.

Didier a bit

since he was under contract, no? I suppose Riis would be ok with a buyout but you have to figure he would want to fuck with them a little for basically poaching a third of his team. Didier may have been brought on Saxo at the request of the Schlecks but he has been pretty solid and useful this year. How many quality riders can Riis realistically find to replace all these guys?

by Jens on Aug 24, 2010 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions

Riis has a history of letting riders leave their contracts

Kolobnev pressured him to do it just last year, and he’s alot better than Didier at this point, so this isn’t that surprising to me.

That's the argyle :)

The argyle is marketing genius.

by tgsgirl on Aug 24, 2010 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

guess it depends where you are being marketed to, and for what.

Being in the US it’s possible I should have no opinion on this at all [grin].

But at least here, they seem to have a solid fan base.

Also depends whether you are talking “selling the races” or “selling the product.”

For product? Whether guys want to be Frank or Andy in their secret dreams, that I can’t say. And whether that’s what really drives bike sales, I also can’t say. Ditto whether guys who want to be Contador are more likely to shell out the big money than guys who want to be Andy. I’d hazard a guess that the Napoleon Dynamite cohort would identify with the understated heros/antiheros (and older straight talkers) of team Schleck big time, and go for “gear that does not suck.” They may not have the sort of egos and credulousness that make someone put an extra $100 into shoes or an extra $1000 into a frame in the expectation that it will make them “like” a Contador, though. So you might have to sell twice the product to make the same profit.

When it comes to selling races, all the same riders are still there, just mixed and matched, so the races should sell themselves just as well!

says to Norsk TV2 that he is considering retiring after this season, which made Sky offer a DS job as an alternative to the one year left on his contract. At the same time Arvesen points out that he has a similar offer from the new Team Lux: Come join us as a rider or DS from 2011. I do not understand your worries in this respect. How would Contador be different than the Schlecks?

by LittleOldLady on Aug 26, 2010 9:25 AM EDT up reply actions

The thing that worries me is the language divide...

The Schlecks, Cancellara, Breschel et al, are multilingual and that has made communication in the team one of its strengths. Contador has a long way to go, and he will have enough Spanish speakers around to cushion him.

by Seahorse on Aug 26, 2010 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions

Contador's language problems can be solved.

In the past many spanish sports people ignored English totally, but the likes of Nadal, Alonso etc are now recognizing the importance for their career to speak the official business language better. Contador will try and jump on that bandwagon too.

by Uphill on Aug 26, 2010 9:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I want to believe you...

by Seahorse on Aug 26, 2010 9:44 AM EDT up reply actions

Don't worri

When Jalabert, Sastre, Basso came to the team they did not speak one word of english, and they too had friends coming to the team.
Contador does speak english, when he was in Denmark he spoke english at the press conference (but spanish too, and there was a translator).
Riis also said that Contador would work on his english. (and imo he has enough money to buy the best teachers :-) )
I think that some of his spanish friends speak english, at least I think that one of them is on twitter in english.

by LittleOldLady on Aug 26, 2010 9:39 AM EDT up reply actions

i hope you are right because I want to still be a Saxo fan, and Contador

is a brilliant rider, but probably because so little is translated, I don’t have any strong sense of him. No matter what happens, I’ll still be supporting Richie :)

by Seahorse on Aug 26, 2010 9:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes, Porte is a little gem

Just think about the prospects of having Porte working as a lieutenant together with Contador. None of the Contador climbers can take on that role, as their TT skils are too poor.

by Uphill on Aug 26, 2010 9:57 AM EDT up reply actions
