The Daily Race: Vuelta a España Stage 5

Stage 5: Gaudix — Lorca
What is it? A bumpy sprint stage.
Got Climbs? Not really. It's not flat, but there are no categorized climbs on the profile.
Red Jersey Battle: A day off for the bigs.
Ideal Rider: Tyler Farrar. It's a sprinters' finish, pass the kool-aide.
@Gavia: Even the sprint stages have climbs at the Vuelta. Crazy, this Spain race.

The Vuelta skirts the Sierra Nevada, avoiding their massive climbs, and this stage starts just north of the mountains. From Gaudix, the stage runs east over bumpy terrain to finish in Lorca. We are in southeastern Spain now, and Lorca lies in the neighborhood of Murcia. (Valverde, who?) There are no categorized climbs on the profile, and the final 50 kilometers descend to a flat finish. This stage should be a day for the sprinters to show their speed. Cavendish, Farrar, Hushovd, Freire: Pick your favorite.

With so much really good beer out there
there’s no reason to drink Rolling Rock.

Not much more refreshing to beat the summers here in the South.

I’d never heard of The Arnold Palmer.I thought you were using some euphemism. My ref was to the fact that Palmer was from Latrobe PA. as was/is Rolling Rock. I have fond memories of Rolling Rock ,dating from an incident in Cleveland in 1966 involving a case of 3.2 RR[Blue Laws on Sunday], a 64 Nova SS 327 w/bucket seats , and a young gymnast named Christine. It was pretty good beer back then. Not so much now. I could see the refreshing possibilities of your Arnold Palmer.

If Cav hasn't vomited in the past two days, it is his to lose.
Hushovd is using this Vuelta just to get the legs for Worlds. I don’t expect him to be a factor. He knows he is not a sprinter anymore – and there are just too many great sprinters here this year.
