Italian team for the worlds
Now we're getting serious! Italian squad for WC (according to Gazzetta) consists of Pozzato, Visconti, Nibali, Oss, Paolini, Gavazzi, Bruseghin, Tosatto and Pinotti. No Ballan, though the only thing Ballan won after his rainbows was a stage & overall in the 2009 Tour of Pologne.

Damn that's good.
No other team will be packing multiple threats for the win like this team does.
I am a little surprised at Bruseghin’s inclusion as he’s looking hurt right now at the Vuelta. Bit he’s clearly just a workhorse for this team.
He will be a workhorse, and even with multiple fresh injuries he's hanging in there.
I mean, his GC hopes are clearly over but he still finished 20th yesterday so the injuries can’t be too bad. Another three weeks of healing time may be enough.
too many cooks in the kitchen if you add him to Pozzato and Visconti, and Nibs
too similar of styles and he isnt packing the form, better to have a support rider in that spot

not hilly enough
and, he has no results this season. gah! disaster season for the little dude. unless, of course, he wins lombardia ;)
...and Pippo will be hard up for a win by then...
(where’s that rimshot sound effect?)
Yes, I will have an Ultra Liberal MoCo Latte please.
Good team but
still maybe the weakest Italian team I’ve ever seen at a World’s.
No Bennati or Petacchi. Lots of workhorses and maybe only one potential winner.
I like the Pozzato/Visconti 1-2
They can send Visconti up the road and give Pozzato an armchair ride to the finish, or until the next move. I think they’ll complement each other well.
Paolini is a nice dark horse – I think he’d get over the hills fine and is pretty quick, but I wonder if he’ll have worker duty. My guess is yes.
Oooh, yes he does
And he goes uphill pretty well

Why? He's won one thing in the last two years. And was the Tour of Poland. Last year. Hardly counts.
His results of the past month have been on the rise. But if you have such a huge talent pool to choose from, you don’t go for the fallen star who seems to be getting a bit better (to put it harshly).
'Cause . . .
. . . the dude has won the damn race!
He won Flanders
This course is ideal for his style
Look, I totally feel that if a former WC winner is in good form, and wants to be apart of the team; and has demonstrated a capibility of not being a diva, then he should be given the respect to be on the team.
Period.
But he's not on good form. Not good enough at least.
And I don’t think anyone has the right to demand a spot. The team should be picked by who’s best now – taking the entire team into consideration – not who has the most stripes on his sleeves. Devolder won Flanders twice, but Belgium damn well left him at home last year because he was out of shape.
Have you seen him this Giro? Or, you know, at all in the last two years?
Pozzato’s fine. If you say he’s not been good last year then I can only conclude you weren’t paying attention, because dude got 2nd in Roubaix and 5th in Flanders (came in with the second group).
'Cause Bruseghin can barely pedal his damn bike!
I love the Bus, but he’s pretty damn beat up and has never done anything on a one day course like this.
Look, I take it you're a fan, but even a fan should be able to see Ballan has not been riding well these last two seasons.
Anyone wishing The Cricket was racing, not coaching?
Yes, I will have an Ultra Liberal MoCo Latte please.
Hey Ryan, you're in luck. Marco Pinotti is ill/injured (not sure), so he isn't going.
He sounds pretty disappointed about it, the team has decided to substitute him. Don’t know who with.
