Good morning, all!
I've nothing against Zabriskie, but to be honest, I think I'm a little bit better looking--Filippo Pozzato
Morning! We're really representing the early riser faction of the Central Time Zoners
Love the new sig. Pippo has always been one of my favorite riders, and every time he writes a blog for CN, i love him even more.
"Thanks again, Floyd Landis, Yellow Jersey Wearer: Nuisance Category"
Early risers or Insomniacs League?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Rare bout of insomnia for me--I woke up at 3:30
and since I had to get up at 5:15 anyway, it didn’t seem worth trying to get back to sleep. But I’m Eastern time, so it’s after 6:00 now—not so bad.
I've nothing against Zabriskie, but to be honest, I think I'm a little bit better looking--Filippo Pozzato
I just got home from work... sometimes the time zones are very disconcerting...

early riser. there is work to be done!

Is there? Damn.
And me still in my bathrobe.
I've nothing against Zabriskie, but to be honest, I think I'm a little bit better looking--Filippo Pozzato
Yeah, I like Pippo, too (despite the mustache). It's good to have colorful people in the peloton.

Oh I don't mind a little bit of cultivated stubble. Or cultivated hair.
Though I will admit that the World’s Cutest Basque Male should really get rid of this. The mo, however, is quite a different matter….
Gora Euskaltel! Sorte on azenarioak!
Why did humanity go through all the trouble of developing culture
if nobody’s going to use it?
I've nothing against Zabriskie, but to be honest, I think I'm a little bit better looking--Filippo Pozzato
Are you saying that moustaches are not a part of our cultural inheritance?
These two gents beg to differ.
You said "natural looking."
I've nothing against Zabriskie, but to be honest, I think I'm a little bit better looking--Filippo Pozzato
It is perfectly natural for a man to have a moustache
it is also highly practical to cut it once in a while so that it doesn’t get in the way of nutritional supplements like beer and the like.
I guess you could argue that a moustache isn’t natural looking. In that case the same must be said about anyone who’s ever had a haircut.
oh no
One of the delights of the moustache is the ability to drink beer a second time, ad it drains from your upper lip back into your mouth.
Apparently.
Oh, heavens, why haven't I thought! The days of me porting
a neat moustache is over! Double-drinking here I come, baby!
I'm refraining from quoting Dorothy Parker
Just…

How very unprovocative of you. Shame on you!
On an unrelated note, Dorothy Parker once said: “You can lead a whore to culture, but you can’t make her think.”
Waking up to find a live thread already exists feels wrong :)
I blame Clijsters for taking way too long yesterday.
First attacks are starting--Quick Step is prominent.
I've nothing against Zabriskie, but to be honest, I think I'm a little bit better looking--Filippo Pozzato
Cataldo tried, was caught by the peloton at 8 km.

Heck my office is a mad house today. I’m relying on you lot to keep me sane.

That is a Quixotic hope if ever there was one.

As I said last night, we are so very sane and normal.
The rest of society is odd. That’s my diagnosis and I am sticking to it ;)

Peloton still intact with only 8Km to a sprint
Cav looking for more success?
I'd love it if Igor nicked the 2 seconds back.
Not really worth it, but still, I’d laugh.
Gora Euskaltel! Sorte on azenarioak!
Between Anton, J-Rod and Cav
sprinting for glory, Cav might just make it..
You don't say ;)
But yesterday J-Rod managed 3rd in an intermediate sprint, and that gets you 2 seconds :)
Gora Euskaltel! Sorte on azenarioak!
There is a second sprint
in Andorra la Vella at 16 km to go at an elevation of 1000 m. Anton & Rodriguez might battle it out there.

Who will drop out of the top 15 today?
Surely the last climb will drop one or two.
Gilbert, Peraud, whoever Bruseghin is

Roche will need to drop more than 1min.
Could happen, but he appears resilient.
I think Roche will be OK
If you can do top 15 at this year’s Tour, you can do top 15 at this year’s Vuelta (unless he is exhausted from the Tour)

He never seemed to be climbing in the first group at the Tour.
I think he’ll lose time, it’s a matter of how much.
Of these I think Gilbert might still hang in there,
unless he is now completely statisfied with the announced Belgian worlds team and wants to relax a bit. Sastre moving into top 15? Menchov too far behind to advance into top 15?
Sastre, Arroyo, Lulu and Menchov
All should be in the top 15. Not necessarily today, but they should get there. Not sure about Lulu.

Agree, they will probably all be there eventually,
but today only Sastre and Arroyo will make it, I think.
I looked up Bruseghin
He has had several top 10 Grand Tour performances. I apologize for the slight.

Marzio Bruseghin is not bad you know.
He’s good for a top 10 every year or so. Even better though, the man has a donkey farm, and is planning to work there full time after his retirement.

I think Tejay will be fine today, but this weekend will be hard for him

The young blood from HTC getting dropped today.
Could happen to one of them, but both?
Result from first sprint:
1. Philippe Gilbert, Omega Pharma-Lotto
2. Pablo Urtasun, Euskaltel-Euskadi
3. José Luis Arrieta, Ag2r La Mondiale
Gilbert just can’t sit still.
I bet he's targeting la verde

I simply refuse to believe that the
GC leaders will not battle for the win today.
The French need to make up their mind...I see it Mikael on FdJ and then Mickaël on other french sites so I'm split.
At least they are pronounced reasonably similar
Tommeke!, Tommeke!, Tommeke!, Tommeke!

Normal situation i think
Remember Giro 2010 and Aquila stage? or better TdF 2001 stage 8: break – 36 minutes ahead of peloton.
If you're trying to convince us that this is a normal stage
then comparing it to the 2001 TDF is not really going to accomplish that. =)

Yeah, that's what complementary means
at least sometimes—it comes from “complete” and also has that connotation a lot of the time (complementary things complete or perfect each other, fill in for each other’s deficiencies).
“Complimentary” works a lot better in Holdenmate’s sentence: think of joining a club and getting the complimentary membership packet.

A Belgian regional newspaper has Kristof Vandewalle at QST (from TSV)
If true, that’s a very good signing. VDW was fourth in the Tre Valli Varesine (outsprinting Cunego), third in the 2nd stage of Burgos (mountain stage won by Samu) and best of all, he won GP Kanton Aargau – Gippingen where he was in a break of six with Haussler, Roche, Sella, Marcato and Bailetti. Sounds nice
we used to get our milk from a farm when I was a kid. We’d fill big glass jars which would have cream on them the next day. I’ve lost the taste for regular milk though and have other dietary things not worth discussing. :)
