So is this secret cafe business or a secret live thread?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Breakaway with a gap of around 2min consisting of
60. Gustavo César, Xacobeo Galicia, at 39:06
90. Biel Kadri, Ag2r La Mondiale, at 1:06:47
105. Perrig Quemeneur, BBox Bouygues Telecom, at 1:19:50
125. Antonio Piedra, Andalucia Cajasur, at 1:41:32
131. Markus Eichler, Milram, at 1:43:54
164. Lars Ytting Bak, HTC-Columbia, at 2:09:04
is on its way.
Note Eichler is very determined again.
22km - Break:
Veloso (Xacobeo), Piedra (Andalucía), Bak (HTC-Columbia), Eichler (Milram), Kadri (AG2R) and Quemeneur (Bouygues).
advantage ~ 3:20
With Bak out here does that indicate
Cav will not fight for a sprint today?
Could just be covering their bases
He can always sit up and join the train if the breakaway doesn’t look like surviving. If they think the break might survive, it makes sense to have someone in it.

I hope he will! I need some points!
I used to be a big fan of the Racer Formerly Known as Bert! But then again, I used to believe in Santa ,Tooth Fairy and innocence of Floyd!
.
Sprinters should really take the opportunity here at
stage 12 and then at 13. However with Petacchi back in Italy sorting things out, we may not have enough workhorses in the peloton.
Guess either he isn't feeling good
or they don’t want to do any chasing: fair enough, Cav hasn’t won a stage, his team doesn’t need to take the lead.
Good morning Café!
What is it sprinter’s stage made people to visit the Café later then usual?
Very few comments so far.

It's happy holidays I think
Although which I’m holiday I’m not sure. Jewish new year’s is today. End of Ramadan is tomorrow.
"Oh man, it’s going to take days to kill all these people!"
I knew about the new year... for TGG in the Middle East, I think Ramadan is the answer
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Good guesses all
It’s actually Arabic for “bessed Eid” or “blessed festival.” It’s said at the beginning of Eid al Fitr, which is the day after the conclusion of Ramadan. Eid is either today or tomorrow, depending on when the local Imams see the first sliver of the waxing moon.

Is it interesting for ex-pats? I imagine the food would be fabulous...
A Jewish friend of mine brought homemade honey cake today to celebrate the new year. It was scruptious..
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
In the Gulf
You have to be careful during the day during Ramadan because you can’t eat in public.
However, going to an iftar (the evening breaking of the fast) is a really neat experience – it’s very family-oriented and people get together to celebrate another day of Ramadan. Usually there’s some great food, too.
In the last ten days of Ramadan, after iftar (usually around 10:00 pm) there is another big community meal, the sohor, that is a very public event, often held at restaurants or hotels, where people get together. It’s very communal and very interesting.

Being an expat and being away from family. I certainly know what that’s like. It’s one of the many drawbacks to being a professional expat, although for me the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.
But there are costs.

There’s also a possibility of a post in the Maldives… perhaps I can take my mother? That would be very tempting… (I know the Maldives aren’t in Asia).

Uh, yeah...tis why he was hired.
He is really young but won a stage at L’avenir last year, other stages in U-23 races, etc. His big result was 3rd place at the Munsterland Giro last year right behind Cav and Ciolek and ahead of Haussler. Plus he was 4th on the day Petacchi won.
Tommeke!, Tommeke!, Tommeke!, Tommeke!
He's a sprinter yeah, just a young one. 4th in stage 7, ahead of Tyler.
I’d like for QST to really go all out for him, see what he can do.

Morning, all.
I've seen more and more riders shaving their arms these days. I don't know why, really, I'm not tempted--the legs are already too much. It seems to come from Australia. All the Australians have shaved arms.--Matti Breschel, Oct. Cycle Sport
Hi there... looks almost like a sleep in for you..

Good morning Podium Cafe◄
Its a Cool 28C in Georgetown Guyana.
Quite an interesting move by Xacobeo Galicia in putting their GC hope in today breakaway.
If I wanted to get shit small wins, I'd race shit small races (Cavendish on Greipel)
Mosquera
put in quite a remarkable ride yesterday. It was an incredible effort to get Nibs and J Rod off his wheel then stay away to challenge for the win. I was very impressed

Tour de L'Avenir Stage 4
1 Hardy FRA
2 Bardet FRA
3 Rosch GER
4 Paiani FRA
5 Mathews AUS
It was a sprint, Eijssen (Bel) stil leads the GC.
Mathews AUS
brought a bit of reputation to this race. he hasnt won a sprint as yet?

Should i have said 'at this level'?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I guess...I mean he has finished the GP Liberazione in 2nd place 2 years running and that is the highest U-23 Italian one-day race
2nd at the U-23 Ronde and had a bunch of other results…I mean he is still new to that level but seems to have a good command of it since he is racing guys that are all near his age rather than what he is usually facing, bunches of continental riders with just a few stars.

Done that too.
Thüringen Rundfahrt, Ringerike GP, Ronde van Vlaanderen, Tour de Slovaquie, couple of Italian one dayers… that’s all racing against the same kids.
Actually I think that was a breakaway

Could be, I think Sporza mentioned that it was a sprint, but maybe they meant a sprint between them.
I wasn’t paying attention, tbh :o
Only reason I say is because Bardet and Rosch jumped into the top 5
and they weren’t in the top 20 yesterday.

Sporza described the sprint...
They say that if someone manages to take the last corner in their locomotive’s wheel ahead of the bunch (think Hondo and Petacchi in TdF), then that person’d be virtually unbeatable.
Hasn't Petacchi gone home?
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Yup...I think that was an example. Another one could be Dean and Farrar ala the Giro this year.

Well, yeah. I just meant the way Hondo and Petacchi did in Tour de France.
I don’t remember what stage, but that was damn perfect cornering by Hondo.
You can see on Td's map
there are two 90deg turns at 1k and about 300m. Goss seems like someone good for a technical sprint as well as those already mentioned, so that might help Cav (or Goss himself).

Why gift four points to (possibly) your biggest rival in the points classification?
Equally curious that Cavendish was trying to gift the stage win to Goss. Sweet gesture and all, just not terribly strategic.
